Babies born ~ September 2012#1

oh n feeds/sleeps are going well. for about a week or so weve had great nights. still cluster feeds from 3-9ish which is hard but the feed at 9 is a proper one and then she sleeps till 3-3.30. then sleeps till either 7 or 8. it has been nice having that extra sleep or just a break fron here.
then during the day its still usually 4hrs between feeds.
shes still quite sleepy during the day but awake during thatcluster feeding time.

its funny how different my 2kids are. ds had to be rocked/cuddled/patted to sleep even now we have to be with him. due to his tummy aches we had to cuddle him to sleep.....but when he was asleep I could change his nappy n swaddle him n hed stay asleep.
eith little miss, I cannot move her when shes asleep. she wakes up instantly if moved slightly...but I can put her in her cot swaddled n other than putting the dummy back in a few times, she goes to sleep by herself which I have to admit is so great! its so much easier n less time consuming.

OK ladies so just wondering do any of your little ones not like tummy time? Miss Amelia does not like it at all. Any tips? playing don't help she just screams in frustration. She will occasionally just lay there for well not even a minute then she screams (which is better than used to be. I know they say it's important but well should I just keep doing it or wait a month or so? Should I just let her scream for a few minutes or so? (I usually pick her up straight away pretty much, yep she has me wrapped around her little finger)

She is so different to my other 2 kids they loved being on their bellies. Only way they would go to sleep was on their bellies. Only way Amelia will sleep is either on her back and occasionally on her side.

A minute seems fine right now- my boys were the same but they could lift their heads right away so maybe it wasn't so important for them? Anissa has some head control but she just curls up in a ball and goes to sleep when I put her on her tummy!

None of mine have liked tummy time before.... About 10ish weeks (something like that)
Yeah tummy time is important, but IMO most babies this young don't enjoy it. CYH nurse asked about it the other day and I was honest and told her he gets very little as he just spews and doesn't like it. She didn't have an issue with it.

One thing I do occasionally is when I'm changing his clothes I'll flip him onto his tummy for like a minute, then flip him back.
Or I'll lay him on my chest and he lifts his head to look around.
In fact ^ is how I used to give my prem tummy time.

DS doesnt like tummy time either unless he is on someones chest for a cuddle. CHN seemed ok with it.

Last 2 night's have been rough. Last night he was awake for 3 hours screaming, every time I'd get him to sleep and put him down he'd wake up again. Had a bit of a meltdown and DH soothed him within minutes then he went to sleep. Looks like DH is going to be the sootherer lol. Much to his dismay seeing as he has to go to work the next day. Mum is coming over every morning when DH leaves for work and stays all day to help which is awesome. Because I cannot for the life of me get the boy to stay asleep, let alone think about cooking and cleaning.

Hi ladies, been reading but been struggling to find time to post. Had a quick visit to Sydney which was great though my sister was once again a PITA! She's not congratulated me or given me any indication that she's excited about having a new niece but then had a big cry cause she thinks that I want her to have nothing to do with Arya as she only got a very quick cuddle before I got her to feed her. Honestly, after my last trip where she hit me, why would I want her having anything to do with my baby?! Then she had a big cry to Mum because she received a formal warning at work and blamed Arya for waking her during in the night. Aside from that though, it was so nice seeing my parents with her and my 4yr old niece is completely besotted. Wouldn't let anyone else cuddle her and everyday she came running in the house and the first words out of her mouth were 'Can I hold Arya?'. It was too cute.

As far as tummy time, we do it with Arya on our chest, rather than on the floor/change table. That way she still feels safe and secure cause we're cuddling her, but she is also getting plenty of time to try and lift her head and push up with her arms.

I promise to try to get on tomorrow and do a proper post.

Tummy time. DD doesn't enjoy it on the floor either. I've only put her on the floor two or three times, more just to see if she liked it yet. With DS I was told that at this stage holding bubs on your chest is just as good as putting them on the floor. So take bubba, go recline on a chair and enjoy some baby snuggles!

hi everyone. Regarding tummy time. Amelia sometimes likes it but we mostly do it on our chest. I am glad to read that others do the same. I am much better at reading bub now so more confident. BFing is going well and my supply is now great so can't complain.

I never gave ds tummy time until he was about 3 months old. I used to carry him around slung over my arm n he used to be always upright on us.
will do the same for jimmy.

afm - 1kg weight gain in 3weeks. even im impressed! lady neon n tal, hope all is well for ur bubs?

Thanks ladies for replying re tummy time :-) she not too fond of tummy time on us either but I'll keep trying :-)

so who does everyone's bubs look more like do you think? Mummy or daddy? Amelia looks like her father (and herself of course)

Shadow I think most babies are pretty similar with tummy time at this age. DD is ok one day but the next she may hate it. I have now figured out when she is fine with it and it happens to be in the afternoons when she wants to have a play so I only do it then. Like everyone else though most of the time we have her on our chest and it works better.

My question for the day are any of you who are breastfeeding starting to get consistent sleep at night. My DD is starting to sleep upto 5 hours now and I've got my fingers crossed that she will keep it up

Terry: Amelia usually feeds around about midnight then wakes about 4/5 then again at about 7. Last night she never woke until half 1 this morning after going down at about 10 i think, then again at 4 then 7ish. She didn't sleep much yesterday cause of the heat.

Terry-Amelia sleep 6-7 hrs usually of a night and has done since about 2 weeks. She seems to feed more through the day to fill up.

Kayden feeds around 9-10pm then sleeps until 2-3am (if I'm lucky it will be 4am) then sleeps until 7ish. After 7am he will feed 2-3hrly throughout the day.

Well he has done this for the last week (I think it's that long)
Hoping he will keep it up.

Hey guys

The night's are getting marginally easier. Jack was discharged from the children's hospital on Saturday. He was terrible that night, awake every hour. Last night I fed him at 8ish then when to bed while DH had cuddles. Fed again at 11.30 then down for a sleep at 12.30, feed at 2.30 then he was really unsettled. I tried everything... At one point I put him down hoping he would calm himself. Didn't work and I felt horrible for letting him scream like that. DH got him to sleep by 4.30 then he woke at 7 for a feed. Mum came over and I slept till 12 then fed him again. He is easy to look after during the day but at night he is super clingy!

DH slept in the spare room last night and I felt so lonely. I hope Jack starts sleeping better at night soon, I don't want to be sleeping apart from DH every night but at the same time he's the one who has to go to work whereas I can sleep when Jack sleeps during the day.

He's put on 200gms from birth weight.

yeh jimmy is being fairly consistant at night. last week or so a feeed aroun 8-9. wake up at 3.30. then wake again at 7.30. this morning however she slept til 9.30!!

shadow, I have seen a couple glimpses of dh in jimmy but I still cant figure her out. she has dhs hairline n forehead n my nose n dark hair. but hubbies eye colour, eyebrows/lashes colour lol.
MIL says she looks like dhs oldest sister as a baby.
