All good here. A was reclined on her daddy before and sat up and stayed that way for a minute without support. Then she did it again :)
Hello everyone, it's quiet in here. How are all of our bubbas?
Amelia is awesome. She is 6.4kg now. Up 800 in almost 4 weeks so she has had a bit of a spurt I think. She picks and chooses when she wants to sit up. Usually if Elmo is on one of our phones. She shuffles along like a caterpillar now to get what she wants. it's so cute so I need to baby proof.
She had also started to crack it when we are and tried to grab our food so today we tried some pumpkin. It was mashed but I want to do a mix of BLW and puree so tomorrow I will steam some in the morning and give her a bite sized piece and some puree.
Got a cold going around our place. First week back at school, ho hum.
Anyway onto the better news
Amelia is well, a little over 7kg I believe, will have her weighed Friday when see's health nurse abt her flat head. She shuffles around on her back on the floor. Sits supported, I reckon another month and she will be sitting by herself. In pram with harness on she leans forward leaning against the bar sort of thing sometimes.
Had photos taken in shopping centre yesterday, 5 minutes they said, 5 minutes....yeah right more like 20 minutes - half an hour. Gotta go back on the 28th see if any I like, if not they needn't be thinking i buying any :-)
Ooh what else???? Oh yes bottom 2 teeth are looking like they going to break through any day, lots of dribbling, lots of wanting to chew on something all the time and ocassional outburst. Them mesh feeders are awesome. Freeze some grapes peel about 4 put them in feeder, great teether. Chemist told me that one. Amelia loved it today. Wouldn't use it all the time though. Just once a day I'm thinking personally.
I think I need to baby proof aswell.
My cheeky monkey has discovered if he grabs things and waves his arm most of them make noise. Very cute to watch him figuring out which toy to grab.
Solids were a bust here. She hated it and kept gagging, was not impressed so back to the original plan of BLW at 6 months. I finally received the book Baby Led Weaning and it had some great tips about when bubs are ready for solids. It's clear to see she's not and that it was just normal bub behaviour.
Ddb same as little c. She hates solids and always gags but lovvvvves licking my food so we might have to do BLS too.
She has a habit of always sticking her tongue out now even in her sleep.
Cant believe she is 6mnths in 2 weeks time!!!

Hi ladies just returned from a weeks holiday down the coast which was nice. Glad we went locally cause of all the stuff I needed to take for G. We started on the solids tasting while on holidays. She loves her potato pumpkin and avocado. I've got one of those mesh bags and freeze watermelon she loves that too. She also likes banana but not a fan of mango a bit to strong and I think the pear was a little tart. The only thing I can't get her to eat is the rice cereal won't have a bar of it. Help wanted of how I can make it taste better or feed it to her
Terry, I'm just not going to do rice cereal at all. We've started with pumpkin, carrot, avo, and various fruits, so far. Oh - and a crust of toast, today. Potato, sweet potato and banana will be the next few things we'll try with Thor. So that's one option for rice cereal - don't try it! But I've also heard of people adding it to other things, especially if they are quite strongly flavoured, like broccoli. Or to thicken things that are very thin when puréed, like pumpkin. You could even 'dilute' the mango with a bit of rice cereal and then use milk/formula to get the consistency right.
Don't you just love those mesh bags!! Thor is really getting the hang of his now - but he still gets frustrated when he gets it handle up - he knows he wants the mesh bit, but sometimes can't manoeuvre it into the right position! It's all part of the learning experience, I guess.
DDB, I'm wondering what the BLW book says to look out for re readiness for solids - I've seen, watches you eat, opens mouth when food passes nearby, is able to use own hand to transfer items into mouth, doesn't have the tongue thrust reflex... anything else?
Hey everyone.
DS threw little A into the solids bandwagon, maybe two weeks ago now. She had only just started to show an interest. She was asleep in her cot. Gave DS a banana in the morning, then took myself off to the toilet. Came back out and couldn't find DS. I called to him and I hear him pipe up from our bedroom. Brocky share nana with Bella. Go in there and he's crawled into her cot, has her sitting in his lap, she's got a death hold of one of his hands and the banana in the other noming on it for all she was worth. And now she is into them in a MAJOR way. Totally cracks it if she wants them and I'm not feeding her and screams the house down if I'm not feeding them to her fast enough :o
AND, just in case she wasn't already growing up too quicly for my liking she crawled this morning.....a proper crawl. She's been up on her hands and knees and rocking for a good 2-3 weeks now. Mostly just faceplants at the end, but she coordinated it all enough this mornign to take 2-3 crawling 'steps' before faceplanting. I was really hoping she'd leave the mobility thing longer then her brother did, but looks like she's taking after him WAY too much on the movement front. (very proud of her, but I just wish she'd slow down some ITMS?)
Terry - Yeah for a holiday. We went down to Sydney for 4 days over the weekend. To catch up with some friends who are here from England for her grandmothers 99th and to get Miss A her US citizenship. We made it a family affiar and had a blast.
Like Pholi said, I tend to mix the rice cereal with other things, like mango or raspberry.
Mum2C's and DDB I wish A didn't want solids like your two. She's growing up WAY too quickly for my liking :(

Shadow - I wouldn't buy any either if I didn't like them. I do hope that they were able to get a couple of cute ones for you.
Pholi - Just an aside on the rice cereal. I know that it's often given as a first food because they fortify it with iron, and it's beleived that bubs need more iron then what they have in their body and get from their mum's milk by 6 months. That having been said, if you give T lots of green veggies (broccoli and the like) it shouldn't be an issue.

Well our babies are surely growing up too fast. I guess most are on solids now? We haven't started J yet, he is not quite 5 months. Tal that is so cute about the banana! Bless. So where do I get one of these mesh bags people speak of?

So, J has been crawling for a week now! Um, isn't this a bit early? He can't even sit up yet I am totally not ready for this - mentally, nor is the house babyproofed! DH is just loving it, really interacting now. I think early on he didn't bond very strong because he didn't feel like he could do much.
Anyone else using the amber teething necklaces? I have one, bit skeptical but don't see the harm. I wrap it round his ankle for sleep time.
Hello everyone, it's been a big week here. Amelia cut her first tooth :) I am so proud. I had taken her amber necklace off because I was worried it was getting too tight on her wrist. She was very grizzly and when I went to put bonjela on I found the tooth so I popped the bracelet back on and she has been handling it a lot better so I think they work. Not for every child though
She also sort of caterpillar crawls. We are still holding off on solids because she isn't quite ready. Basically they say if they can pick it up themselves and show an interest in eating in they they are ready. A lot of the other signs like watching you eat and opening mouth and chewing movements can actually just be babies strengthening their muscles for eating in the future and speech. That's what the book says anyway because Amelia was showing those signs but then didn't want a bar of food and just clamps shut and looks at me like I am trying to poison her lol.
I weighed her yesterday after Mothers Group and she has gained 250 in a week and now sitting at 6.7kg. :)
Hello everyone, how are all of our mummies and babies?
We are all good here. Have had some wild weather that Amelia and all the other babies in the district slept through. Everything else is going well. I feel like a cow actually. I keep leaking and feel like I am making so much, which is a good thing I guess.
I went to a conference with Dr Sears and Dr Bergman on Saturday about Attachment Parenting and learnt a lot. If anyone wants to know about it please feel free to ask.
Amelias 2nd tooth hasn't broken through yet but the first one is all the way up now. It's so cute.
We also tried baby led weaning again today and she ingested a bit of pumpkin, Had lots of fun and got quite messy :)
it's so quiet in here now. Amelia has 2 teeth now, yay!
Hi DDB yes it is quiet I guess everyone is busy. I know I come in have a quick read and then get back out most of the time.
Can't believe Amelia already has two teeth out at least she's got the first lot out of the way quickly. G is still being tormented although they are getting closer to the surface so I don't think they are far off.
We are still eating a little each day I've now started giving her baby porridge she loves it so no more rice cereal a bit of fruit for lunch and veggies at dinner. She gets really excited when I put her in the high chair. I've also started to give her a bottle of formula during the day but hope to be able to continue BFing morning and night when I'm back at work

I hope her teeth hurry up and are pain free. Nasty buggers they are. Thats awesome about solids, it would make it easier if she enjoys it. How are you finding her with the formula? A has one sometimes and tolerates it well.
AFU-long night here. Poor bubba was not happy.
Thanks DDB I can't believe she is already 6 months. I give her a bottle of formula during the day and she is used to it now. I also spoke to a few mothers in my playground about which one they use as I didn't have a clue. Two of them that bottle and BF use the Bellamys had a sweeter taste like B milk so I bought that and never had a problem giving it to G.
Terry i just noticed your bub is the same age as mine lol.
6 months surely goes by fast!
Thor has had a few weeks of really irritable grumpiness, then a few days ago both front bottom teeth cut through at once! No more chewing on Mummy's knuckles!
We're doing well with solids - Thor eats pumpkin, potato, peas, zucchini, carrot, plus a range of fruit. We do brekky and dinner with solids, an d have a vegie combination first pureed, then a piece of friut in his 'net'. He demolishes large chunks of rockmelon and pawpaw, which are his favourites atm. I give him a toast crust to chew on sometimes, but feel like I should make some kind of rusk... anyone got recipes that they recommend?
