Hey!
I am feeling FANTASTIC! I knew I had no energy from my super extended AF, but I didn’t really realise how little I had until I started to get it back.

Nope, no word from Delph yet, but I’m certainly hanging out for her call/text.

That is so fantastic about T self settling. It must feel so good to not be up with a crying baby all night. I just feel so bad for you that it took so long for you to get there.

AFU – B is such a little sweetie. He loves to give cuddles and snuggle up. I LOVE it. I think I could cuddle him all day.

On a completely different note…it seems he’s finally discovered the wonderful art of nose picking :doh: His nose that is. He’s been trying to pick mine for me for months. I can’t for the life of me figure out what his fascination is with jamming his finger up my nose at any and every opportunity he gets!

Oh! Dr T! X is doing the same thing!!!! Can I say - DD didn't do it... Maybe a boy thing?!?!

So glad you're feeling more energetic! Great to hear. How goes the TTC?

Em - that is AWESOME about T and the sleeping. Also great to hear. You mustn't know yourself! And that's the first time I've heard you talking about another bub... You must be feeling better ;) :p

Tizzie's book isn't well liked generally around here... Its not considered "gentle" parenting. But I've read it and I agree, the routine for eating and sleeping worked well for us from about 6mths with DD. I just used it to get some idea on when to bf, solids, play, put down for sleep.

I ignored the rest :D

But it wouldn't have worked for X. He's much too mummy's boy... Feeds to sleep all the way.

Having said that... The last few nights he has not fed to sleep and he's been putting himself to sleep after just a few minutes of grizzling. But he still wakes overnight. One thing at a time I guess...

OP – X is doing it as in picking his nose….or as in picking YOUR nose? Or both? LOL

On the TTC front. I found EWCM in the loo this morning!! WOOOOOOOOOO It’s funny, I just wrote in my TTC thread…when I came out I was practically skippuing, and one of my colleagues asked me why I was so happy. I had to make up some lame story. Could you imagine what they’d do if I came out with “I’m so happy because I have egg white cervical mucous. It means I might ovulate soon. I’m going to go home tonight and jump my husband. Maybe multiple times”

OP and Dr Tal, I read your posts on Friday about nose picking. Then what do you know, I found T with his finger up his nose this morning! He has at various times put a finger up my nose too, and he does it so fast I don't realize it's happening until too late. Once he peeled off a heap of skin and my nose bled profusely! Makes me cringe to remember it.

Dr Tal, it's great to hear you've got energy back, and WOOHOO about the EWCM, lol. I'm sure you wished you could actually tell your colleagues what you were so happy about. I have all my fingers and toes crossed for you!

OP - Great to hear X is going to sleep without feeding! I hope the overnight wake ups stop happening too. :) I hadn't realized Tizzie Hall's book was so controversial until you mentioned it! I'm not sure when I first heard about her book, but I'd seen a notice that she was giving a talk in Brisbane recently, and then a friend of mine was using it and showed me one of the sample routines and there were a couple of things that looked interesting when I flipped through the book so thought I'd have a thorough read. I'm not sure I would have been able to implement her instructions if I hadn't been to the sleep clinic. I can totally empathise with people who don't want to let their child cry for a second if they can help it. Unfortunately all those things that some people do to calm their child and help them to sleep gently didn't work or stopped working for us, and now that he's learnt to fall asleep by himself he's so much happier, it's amazing. But like X, he still wakes up overnight. One day!!!

It’s so nice to know that I’m not the only one to have my baby (or are they officially toddlers yet? I kind of don’t want to call him a toddler, I still want him to be my baby) pick their nose. And EJ you are so right about how quick it happens. I’ve mentioned it at work once and one of my collegues was completely grossed out about it and got up me for ‘letting’ him do it. I don’t LET him do it. I can’t stop him. He either does it when I’m sleeping (how am I suppose to stop him when I am sound asleep) or like you said, he does it so quickly his finger is up there before I know it. That must have hurt something horrible when T made your nose bleed…I’m cringing just thinking about it. I know B has scraped his nail up there a couple of times and cut it, but nothing like that :o

#3 arrived for us in July. All the kids are close in age but it seems like forever ago that they were this tiny!

Howdy girls. I am at work. Things aren't progressing how I would like with some data analysis and I need to give my brain some down time to process it subconsciously. That's a good excuse any way don't you think?

I might have said it on the announcement thread, but just in case, congratulations Delph on the arrival of cookie! I hope your family is keeping well.

AFU, I took T to get measured and weighed yesterday. He's currently 10th percentile for weight, 75th for height. He must have grown 4 or 5 cm in the last 6 weeks. I thought he seemed taller lately! He's started climbing up onto the dinner table via the chairs, though mostly he'll just sit at the table on the chair. I know they've been teaching him to sit at the little table and chairs to eat at day care, in preparation for moving up to the toddler room (when there's finally a vacancy!).

He's not saying any more words really. Still just "light" (sort of), "elmo" (sort of), "yay", "wow", "up", "off" (in relation to lights) and "moo" which means either moon, spoon, balloon or the noise a cow makes! He also has noises for elephants, dogs, lions, cats, ducks, horses, sheep and automobiles. He'll point at a coffee mug and try to say "hot", and he always follows the word hot with a sucking in noise, hee hee. He'll say big long sentences of babble, and some times he's very earnest and puts his hand on your arm when he's trying to tell you something. It's very cute! And he sings the "e-i-e-i-o" part of Old MacDonald had a Farm, on time and in tune!

HOw's everyone doing? I can't believe it's already amost the end of October. Yeesh!

Dr T - I did a little stalking the other day, and read that you were doing your citizenship exam. Has that happened? Hope you found a way to deal with the stress! Did the EWCM eventually mean you O'd?

OP - On my stalking adventure I read about the interesting things you find in your shoes. How funny! We don't really experience that on a regular basis. Yet anyway!

AFU - Not much to report. I think Travis is running now - he goes really fast on his feet and has figured out he can get around quicker that way than crawling. But it's not full on knees up in the air running, IYKWIM? It was painful getting him to bed tonight. He had a nap earlier than usual so I think he was over tired, and totally wired. He fell off a low bench twice in about 10 minutes. In the end I just had to let him protest in his cot for 20 minutes. Hmm, speak of the devil. He's woken up already, less than 40 minutes later. Better go see if he needs another layer...

EmmaJane – What a growth spurt for T :o sounds like he might be joining X in the string bean category :lol:

B eats breakfast at a little table now. He pulls his chair out and climbs onto it, then puts his hands on the table and waits for his brekkie. SO CUTE. At the day care B goes to they start them sitting at little tables basically as soon as they can sit up and finger feed themselves. It’s part of some sort of learning something or other. Socialization and being part of a group…they write it on the daily charts of what was done that day anyway, and have a learning objective number next to it.

B doesn’t say any new words yet. He seems to go through spurts, will come out with 3 or 4 new words, then nothing for AGES. I think it’s been wel over 2 months since he said a new word.

I sit my citizenship exam on Friday. I’ve got to go post on that thread. I’ve been SUPER busy at work and haven’t had a chance. I am a bit of a practiced, head in the sand pretend no exam exists sort of person. I get the extreme anxiety when I find out, and any time I think about it, so well…I just don’t think about it. Probably wrong way about it…but well……

As for the EWCM. I am now completely convinced that there is no part of my reproductive system that works the way it should. First I had AF for 2+ months, now I’m up to somewhere around three weeks of EWCM and no O in sight.

I’m going to have to go stalking now and find out about OP and her shoes….you’ve got my interest piqued.

T must be keeping you on your toes now that he’s away and running!

AFU – B tries to jump. It’s funny as. He bends his knees, then pops up, and slightly delayed after the end of the pop up he throws his head back, then delayed even more after that he lifts one of his legs up, then takes a bit step or does really really quick running in place steps then just giggles and giggles. It’s hilarious.

I’m also on the Halloween kick. I made B a little B sized pumpkin. Then I bought a really big pumpkin and carved an owl into that, and I am now looking for a medium sized really roudn one to carve a cauldron on. I am also going to make Halloween cupcakes for B to bring into daycare with him on Monday.

Yes, it has been very quiet in here of late!

Emma - funny you say that you haven't experienced it yet - it is X who does the shoe deposits!!! DD will run away with my shoes (to wear them) but DS leaves things IN them. Boy/girl thing?? Who knows. But it is rather amusing... except when it is 5am and DH is putting his work boots on in the dark... ;)

We've got X on the little table and chairs for brekkie and lunch. He loves it! Dinner we still use the high chair although we might move to a booster seat soon. That'd be nice - all four of us around the table. DD will lose her position at the head of the table but tough cookies.

X has been running recently too. Means more bumps and bruises... but he loves it. He and DD chase each other round the house laughing. Its very cute until one of them (normally X) falls over and bashes into something :rolleyes: DD still gets a bit pushy with him sometimes and I keep telling her that one day (soon by the looks of it) he's going ot be bigger than her and then who will get hurt? And she says he will :rofl: Doesn't quite get it... she's a confident thing...

How did T sleep for the rest of the night? Last night was freezing down here - I added another blanket to X's and left the heater on in his room too. Brrrrrrrr. How's his sleep in general?

Dr T - what's the plan with the fertility? You must be just about going spare by now. Behave, Dr T's body!!! Cmon! Be normal for once!

Well done on your exam :clap: When will you find out results? I am 200% convinced you blitzed it.

Ahhh Halloween. In one sentence you're talking about your citizenship exam, in the next you are telling us about one of the most American traditions there is! I guess you can still keep your traditions and things right? Does anyone else get into it up there?

We've just moved to a new street - I wonder if anyone will come knocking on our door? I'm not really very big on it...

That's very cute about B's "jumping". Is it 18mths that they learn to jump? I can't remember - I remember it just clicked with DD one day on the little tramp at playgroup, but can't recall when that was.

AFU: I thought X had turned a corner with his sleep - he was going down easily, not feeding to sleep anymore but he'd go off to sleep quietly (enough), and then he was sleeping til 6am-ish! :o He did it like three nights in a row! I was getting a bit excited - one night DD didn't wake up either and I got to sleep from midnight after resettling DD til 6am, with no interruptions, including my pesky bladder! I felt like a new woman! 6hrs, woohoo!

And then last night we had the kids at my parent's house while we went somewhere, then brought them home, he woke up when we got out of the car (cold probably) and then didn't go back to sleep. This was about 11pm, ended up giving up trying to settle him in his room at about 1am and brought him in with us, he had a feed and then I put him back down, grizzled a bit for another half an hour then went to sleep. So I'm really hoping it was just a one-off because he was out of his own bed, in the cold, etc etc!

Haven't had X weighed and measured since 12mths. I think our next visit is Jan - 18mths? He's had a massive growth spurt though too - he's into size 2 singlets, bodysuits, PJs and some pants and tops too. All of a sudden everything was too short for him!

OP - Oh my! Size 2 clothes already for X! Most size 1 pants and some size 0 ones are still too big for T! I actually think the nurse got the height measurement wrong by a cm or so.

I hope last night was a blip for X and he goes back to how he was sleeping those 3 consecutive nights! When I checked T last night he had a sweaty head so I figured he was actually too hot in just a singlet, so took it off him, put him back down in his cot and he was good to go back to sleep with no fuss! He then slept until 5am I'm pretty sure, at which point I put a sheet on him and he went back to sleep until 6.15am. We've mostly had good nights like that lately! Only a few times we've had to get up several times during the night! But it does seem his naps have gone crazy again. Can't win them all! For example, today he went to sleep in the car at 10.45am, I transferred him to his cot 15 minutes later, and he woke up 10 minutes after that. I couldn't get him to have another sleep after that, and we've just got him down for the night (touch wood!). Long day for a 16 month old, don't you think?

Dr Tal, I would just love to see B trying to jump. It sounds SO cute and funny. As does the pumpkin outfit for halloween! Hope we get to see a photo of that one.

Fingers crossed that you O soon!!! Must be very frustrating. And exhausting. ;)

And I'm not sure whether you meant to say you sat your exam on Friday or that you sit it. So good luck if it's this week, otherwise I hope you did well!

Sorry about the confusion. My exam was on Friday. As in yesterday. I was a mess for about the hour before the exam. Cold sweats...peeing every 5 seconds. In the end it only took me about 2 minutes (they give you 45) and I got 100%...WOOHOO :leap: I really don't understan my exam anxiety. IT's not like I've ever been BAD at taking them, it's just the lead up to. Stupid. They also said they'd most likely be able to get me into the citizenship ceremony which is in about 2 weeks :o So un-immigration like in their fastness on this.

And on to Halloween :lol: It's funny how so many people think it's an American tradition. It DEFINITELY has become very Americanised...that having been said it actually has it's roots in the British Isles. I say the British Isles, because I can't actually remember which religion it originated from, but it was Gaelic, or Celtic or Druidic or something like that. From memory it's based around the 'holiday'of Samhain (not sure if that's spelled properly) the beleif being that was the night that the spirit and living world were the closest and that on that night because the worlds were so close spirits could cross from the spirit world to here. So if people HAD to be outside around dusk or at night they'd paint their face to disguise themselves as a spirit so as not to be attacked by evil ones. And then families would leave offerings on their door steps for the spirits of their loved ones and dead ancestors, and I think the pumpkin thing has to do with putting them/candles/to keep the spirits out of the house. So while the Americans are the ones that have capitalized on the whole things, the actual tradition is British (for lack of remembering which religion it actually was) Then when Christians took over Britian they tried to attach christain connotations to it, like with all the other 'pagen' holidays (Christmas, Easter etc..) and called it All Saints Day or something similar.

I vaguely knew some of that All Saints Day stuff. And it doesn't surprise me that Christians tried to attach things to a pagan ritual... that's not the first time as you say!

Just wondering if anyone else's bub has turned into a bit of a monster right now? Or is it just me and our particular circumstance?? X is pretty much whingey and grizzley aaaaaaaaallllllllllll day. My patience isn't the best right now which I'm sure isn't helping but he just has tantrums at the drop of a hat. He wants wants wants, he can't quite communicate and when I don't get it fast enough (or at all) he cracks it. Throws himself backwards screaming and usually smacks his head on whatever surface he is standing on... Sigh.

I know he knows what he is doing - tonight in the bath at the IL's house I watched him crack it over something, he started to throw himself backwards and then realised he would end up underwater and he stopped himself and sat upright. Cheeky munchkin...

I'm just at the end of my tether with him. Every thing is a fight - nappy changes, eating, getting dressed... He has started biting when he gets frustrated - me, DD, his cousins... DD went through a biting phase too (why are my kids biters???) but I can't remember how we stopped it with DD. I think we created a rule for her, to keep her hands to herself, and mouth, and feet... to teach her how to play nicely with other kids. She mostly pushed and sometimes bit when she was frustrated, tired, waiting for her turn with a toy or something. But she never bit me, so I think this is a bit different. I'm not too sure how to approach it... that and I don't think he would get it, not like DD did at the same age. He just seems so much younger than her.

Hi everyone, its been aaaaaaages since I have been in here. How are you all? I am up with E at 4am which is odd for us as he has been sleeping through mainly.

OP – I’ve seen a few of your posts, and it must be really hard. I won’t say I know what it’s like, because I don’t, I don’t think anyone that’s not been in that situation could comprehend what it’s like. So all I really can do is give you a few more of these :hug: :hug: and hope that you’re getting lots of support at home from family and friends.

As for monster child. Not quite as bad as what it sounds like X is, but yes, B has been a bit of a brat lately too. He whines quite a bit, and he does throw quite a few tantrums. I know they are all frustration though because he’ll ‘talk’ to me then point at something or his gabble will have that question intonation ITMS and then if I don’t answer straight away or get what he’s pointing to he’ll crack it and throws himself on the floor too, in quite dramatic style I might add and flails around and screams a bit. Although the newest thing, which bothers me, is that he turns around and hits the dogs or pulls their hair. Up until this point he’s always been very gentle with the dogs and I can’t say I am super impressed with this turn of his, especially when he hits Tano, because being blind it really upsets and disorients him. That having been said I think Niya will put an end to it quick smart. She was severely abused as a puppy, and while she is fantastic with B, she is still jumpy and edgy at times and can get a bit nippy if she’s unhappy with what is going on. Anyway, last night he pulled her hair in one of his tantrums and she reached around and just stopped short of nipping his hand. Anyway, I fully intend to let her nip him (does that make me a bad mother? Because I am going to knowingly let my dog bite my baby?). Mainly because I know she won’t bite hard, it will be just a nip. But it will scare him, and it will probably hurt him (she won’t draw blood, but I expect there will be a mark) and it will definitely make him think twice before doing it again. And I think he needs to learn that, not just so he stops pulling on our dogs, but so he is more mindful around other dogs as well.

As for the biting. I really can’t help sorry. I know B bit me a few times when he was younger, and I calmly pried him off and told him we don’t bite people because it hurts. He just stopped doing t, but I honestly don’t think it had anything to do with anything I said and did.

Sal – It’s funny, I was just thinking about you last night and that it had been ages since we’d heard from you and I was wondering how E was going. Sorry to hear he had you up last night. Hopefully it was just a once off thing.

Emma – I forgot to answer your question about what I was going to do with my messed up cycles/body. I see a fertility specialist….you can stalk me in my TTC 6+ months thread to read the latest on that one….it’s good for a bit of a laugh. Realistically there isn’t much I can do as long as I am breastfeeding B. FS thinks clomid would do the trick again (that’s how I got UTD with B) but I can’t take it while I am breastfeeding. And despite the fact that B has dropped all but his night feeds, I am still not quite ready to fully wean him.
