We're getting the same thing with Grace's head movements. She also seems to 'mutter' around her dummy and chats away to my bb while she is feeding - it is very cute! She makes eye contact and we get mini smiles as well as poking her tonge out when we poke ours out to her.

i have 1 unwell little boy little antone is coughing and has a runny nose and was awake most of the night
right now im stuggling with the 4 kids even with ex still staying some days and when he does go home he does take 1 or 2 of the older kids. i guess ive been trying to be super mum thinking i can do everything on my own when i cant i dont like asking for help but i know if i dont im going to just go crazy. i guess it doesnt help that it is almost the 1st annervirsary of loosing my angel baby im finding that real hard to deal with but i then think if i didnt loose that baby then i wouldnt have Anton as i fell preg 4 weeks afterwards.
Hugs Jesse - I am finding life difficult with only 3 at home and my DH is here full time. Anniversary of an angel bub is always hard ...(((hugs)) I have one coming up in September.
Chrissy - My babies all had wind and all were breastfeed for a short amount of time. What foods are you avoiding? Infants Friend has worked here too, plus I find giving bub a back rub before a feed and after really works too.
I try not to have cauliflower, broccoli, corn,onions and cabbage as these all give my babies more wind pain....but i believe everyone is different...have you heard the same about these foods?:
I try to have 2 litres of water a day and i drink about 600mls at night...but Blake seems to be having more formula at night than last week...he is definately going through a growth spurt...he just seems heavier every time i feed him lol
And Jess...a hug babe......I light a candle for my first son who i lost 15yrs ago...i was 19w....he and my 13th daughters twin all had the same due date...I believe in my heart that Blake is here now as some spirit from them as he had a edd 2 days earlier....
Hi Ladies - I'm a bit slow - but thought it was about time I joined my "baby buddies"
I have another "Blake" - Blake Mark - born 11.32am 15/7/09 8lb1oz/3660g, 50.5cm and 37cm head circ.
Came home from hossy last Sunday - so have been home a week - where the time has gone I have NO IDEA. I have my DH home for another week, but am really scared about how i'll cope when he goes back to work. He commutes to the city and is gone from 7am to 7.30pm - eek!
Blake is doing really well (me not so much) he sleeps anywhere from 20mins to 5 hours and day and night seem to have no meaning. He is fully BF and this is the part that is actually going well - I have HEAPS of milk and Blake is taking to feeding well. He took a while to poo (after his mec poos is hosp) - but that is sorted now and he poos lots!
We had our MCHN home visit which was really positive - she was lovely and I got to talk lots about my anxiety levels (which are very high atm) she was reassuring and supportive and I feel like I have support from her. Blake is above his birth weight already and seems to be a normal healthy little boy.
Well thats our update. I will try to keep up with personals in future. Congrats to all the new mums and sending sleepy vibes out to all those little babies!

Hugs to you all who have lost loved ones. Reading some threads here reasserts how blessed we are to have Ryan arrive with little dramas, in good health (abeit a slight jaundice). He's also sleeping and eating well which is super because we would have been driven mad with our other 2 1/2 y.o son constantly seeking attention too.
Been vomited on a few times but have missed the poo and pee which Ryan reserved for mum. Who'd thought vomit, poo, and pee could be so cute :)
Yeah another little Blake...my Blake is exactly 1 month older...so cool....glad he is doing well...and i wouldnt worry about the sleep routine just yet....mine didnt have one until a week ago...hes now gone back to every 4.5hrs at night but maintains his 3 hourly feeds during the day....welcome to the group too:
Welcome proud dad lol Glad everything is going well for your family...yes it can be hard with a toddler under your feet.... i have a 3yr old....well ive managed not to peed on or pooed on but the vomits hes done a few of those on me.....lol:

nice to 'meet' all the newbies and yay that jasp will soon be joining us too - i cant believe i missed her birth announcement and was thinking today was her big day!
it sounds like we are all doing well with the business and ups and downs of having a newborn. i must say i had forgotten lots of things and am less sure of myself than i thought i would be 2nd time around. jacob has a cold at the moment so i am using saline in his nose which is helping a lot. he did a big vomit yesterday and i freaked out about it just as i did when it forst ever happened with Noah - and they told me i would be so much more 'relaxed' this time LOL! i think i may also get some infants friend, every few days he seems to get wind pain and maybe this would help us too.
are any of you having 'arsenic' hour? i find J is a little unsettled b/n about 6 and 8pm, not easy as this is bedlam in our house trying to get N bathed and into bed etc etc. this bedlam prob ads to it all i guess... i fin he wonmt settle then, will try using my sling and see how that goes. it has been ok so far but i have had dh home not sure how gettingN from creche and doing dinner and night time unwind will go by myself! Dh goes back to work next week... adjustment time again! we are going away this weekend, it is my best friend's twins 1st bday party in sydney so that will be another challenge to tick off the list.
It sounds like all the bubs are starting to really pile on the weight - i cant believe how much J has changed. Miss E so glad the new nurse was more reassuring, that is how it shouldbe i think and it sounds like things are going well for you. i think i wilk get J weighed again on monday. i am a bit worried as he is a super fast feeder and often takes just 1 side.. i hope he is getting enough (has been worse with the cold as i think his blocked nose interferes) - he has good 'output' and had put on heaps of weight in his first 10 days home so i guess it is ok but it certainly isnt the long feeds i was used to last time so i cant help but worry. i know i have HEAPS ofmilk and apretty quick let down... he also favours one side and i find it hard to attach him on the other... so i want to get him weighed to reassure myself he is still gaining and also maybe spk to the nurse about attachment on that side.
Anyway sorry this has beena bit selfish - will try to be a better buddy with personals soon... but thought i would just check in and say a big hello to everyone. i ofetn think of you all when i am up feeding at 3am and wonder who else is out there doing the same thing!
pregainpan - i am starting to dread night time...Hayley refuses to go to sleep between her 9pm and midnight feed...she will start to drift off in my arms after her bottle but as soon as she is put in her cot her eyes are wide open... getting her to go to sleep after her midnight feed is also a bit of a battle sometimes...will drift off in my arms but wide awake once she goes in her cot! We bought her a musical mobile yesterday and it seemed to help a bit...but it doesn't go for long enough so have to keep getting out of bed to wind it up again! Lol
Chrissy - bet you are loving Blake's long night sleeps! Once Hayley was asleep last night she slept really well...went 4 1/2 - 5 hours between feeds...don't like her sleeping that long when she is still so young but I slept through my phone alarm!
Welcome Chopsticks and congrats on your little man. Hope you are enjoying him and great to see a dad on here! We had our first projectile vomit a couple of nights ago- all over me of course...DF was lying there laughing cause he didn't get spewed on! His time will come...lol
Jess hope your little one is feeling better soon...would be no fun at all. Don't stress yourself out trying to be super mum...we can only do so much. Don't forget we're here if you ever need to chat!
I am considering stopping expressing...I'm really not producing much milk at all, so probably a good thing she isn't breast feeding, although maybe if she was I'd be a better cow! I don't express overnight..just too tired and can't be bothered...this morning I only got 80mls and towards the end of the day I'm struggling to get 80mls, normally of a morning I can get 120mls it just takes a while. So I'm wondering if it is worth the time and effort to do it and should I just give her formula full time, but how do I 'dry up'? Then I think of the money we spent on the pump (yeah it was only about $80...but to me that's a fair bit of money!) and think I should get as much use out of it as I can...I don't know...
Better go do some housework while the little monster is asleep (she sleeps fine during the day!).
good thing you didn't buy the electric pump then.. they're like twice as much.:
my bub doesn't sleep on his cot much either. We have to hold him until he is in deep sleep before putting him down. Either that or he sleeps on our bed. I think he likes the comfort of being close to us.

ss_storm, have you tried playing white noise music when you are trying to settle Hayley? We were having some difficulties a week or so ago and bought a white noise album which works like magic when it comes to settling Ash. We put it on and within five minutes he's either asleep or calm enough to be put in his cot and self settle. You can also put a radio in their room but don't have it tuned t a station instead of buying the album. Also 80ml is
quite a good amount to get from expressing. Our LC gave us a handout that says that at 20 days bubs stomach can only hold 60-80mls, so you could be getting just enough.
We also invested in some wind drops last night and they have worked a treat! Thanks for sharing your experience with them Sarah, I'd never heard of them before your post, but clearly they were just what we needed.
Sorry, I can't do more personals, I'm typing one handed again while I feed Ash. But I hope everyone is doing well and getting more sleep! x

Blake is 6 weeks today wow time has flown by....not the nights though they seem to drag on lol
Had Blake weighed today and he is exactly 4kg....54cm long and 37cm hc
He gained 220grams in 4 days...the nurse said he is filling out nicely...ill go get his full health check at 8 weeks when he has his needles....poor bugga i hope he is like is sisters...they were all good....
Wind drops & infants friend is a god send......i think it comes with age...but blake has settled down with his wind....(as im typing my toes r crossed lol) baby in one arm typing in the other....the last 3 nights he has settled straight away from his 2am feed and wakes at 6am...so im not complaining.....still on formula at night but if he sleeps and is content the nurse said no problems with it as he still wants me...
i must post some pics...im so slack

so glad to hear other people are using the wind drops as well! i thought it might just be me!!
had our 4 week check up today with the mhcn...corey has put on 900g in the last two weeks :o i knew he was a little guzzler when it comes to feeding, but that's crazy!! the nurse assured me it will slow down (here was me thinking that sort of weight gain wouldn't be possible for a BF baby!) and also suggested some techniques to stretch out some of his feeds, which she thinks may help with his wind.
chrissy - you give me hope that the wind will improve at some stage soonish! i feel so sorry for them - they seem to be in so much pain!
better get back to dinner before i burn it :lol: back for personals later!!

storm - expressing is hard work isn't it? I'm supposed to be doing it to help boost my supply (BF plus formula at the moment, although I suspect the bulk of his intake is formula), but good grief, how are you supposed to find time?? We only bought one of those Avent manual pumps, and have since borrowed a pretty good electric one, but I can understand the reluctance to 'waste' money. I got totally put off early on when I was sitting in our main room double pumping and somebody came to the (glass) door. I felt quite traumatised by it! (He probably did too ;-) ) I recently had a session with Pinky McKay and have her book Sleeping Like a Baby. She pretty much says that if being in your arms is how they get to sleep, then that's what you need to do, and as they develop they will gradually learn to sleep by themselves. When you think that they have been all snuggled up inside us for so long, it makes sense that having to sleep by yourself, on your back, isn't an easy transition to make! Fortunately DH really likes his evening cuddle time, so when he gets home from work Zac takes up his position on Daddy's chest and stays there until I go to bed :-)
Chopsticks - I might look out for a white noise album. I have discovered that doing the vacuuming is a good magic trick, as is using the hairdryer, but it would be nice to have something else to fall back on.

Miss E - glad to hear you had a better experience with a different MCHN. You just don't need that sort of BS when you're dealing with all the new experiences and emotions of being a mum!

He gets absolutely beside himself and I've been trying the 'are you hungry, are you tired, does your nappy need changing, do you just need a cuddle' roundabout, and generally after a while he has a bit of a burp and settles down. This morning I had my first experience of being chucked on in the middle of BF :dance:
All you ladies with other children - oh my god, I do not know how you do it! I am full of admiration for you!!
AFM/us - had a great session with Pinky McKay the other day who reassured me that actually my BF 'technique' is ok, it's just that I've got nipple thrush and vasospasm, which is why it's hurting so much. So I've been to the Dr to get a couple of prescriptions, including motillium to try to give my supply a boost.
I think I got a bit over excited about weaning Zac off the formula, esp when I hadn't started the motillium, so we had a couple of grizzly days where he's been on the breast for ages but still ravenous. I'm just going to feed him - breast or formula - when he's hungry and not worry too much about it I think.
Our MCHN keeps saying 'we like newborns to be back asleep within an hour of waking up' - what planet is she on??? Zac will (quite happily most of the time) stay up for 2-3 hours during the day. He might have a couple of cat naps, but other than sleeping in my arms, and usually a reasonably decent sleep in the early afternoon, he's not interested in sticking to the rule book!

storm – good on you for expressing! I hated it so much last time, i didn’t even bother getting any type of pump this time around (the cat ate the last one!). Hopefully Hayley’s sleep improves soon for you. There is hope! Oliver was EXACTLY the same way. Would drift off in my arms, and as soon as I lay him down he’d wake up. In the last week or so it’s gotten MUCH, MUCH better, so hang in there!
Miss E - Thanks for the reminder about the white noise albums. I just went and purchased one on eBay after reading your post. Our dreaded extension is still going on, so even when Oliver does get to sleep, keeping him that way is hard! Glad ou had a better experience with the other MCHN.

lovelycate - How funny is the “back in bed within an hour” spiel? lol Good luck cutting down with the formula, but as you said, as long as he's getting fed, and is happy, does it really matter where it's coming from? (Coming from someone who is waaaayyyy to lazy for bottles however!)
Us – Not a lot going on here, had the 4 week appointment today. Oliver’s now 4.460kg up from 3.640kg at birth, so not bad (though also not the 1kg a month I was used to with Noah!). I think he’s going through a growth spurt at the moment and the MCHN agreed, he’s been using me as a dummy for hte past 24 hours *yawn*!
It was our first appointment with our “regular” MCHN today, and though I liked her, she didn’t write anything down! So I have no idea how long he was or his hc. Though she did say he was in proportion, so looking at the growth charts I’d say that means he’s about 55cm long?
She told me to sart trying to resettle O before he actually wakes from his naps, as he is lucky to sleep an hour and they prefer at least 1.5hours. Sure lady! Who has the time to sit next to the cradle for 30 minutes, waiting for the first signs that he’s stirring?
According to her, he doesn’t have reflux, so no real idea why he’s so bloody pukey! Maybe it’s normal, but I don’t remember Noah every puking this much. It can be 5 mins after a feed or 2 hours, doesn’t seem to make a difference. I’m so sick of changing his clothes! She pointed out a birthmark on his tummy, that I, being the ever observant mother I am, had thought was a bruise from a too tight press stud on his MCN. Lol whoops! She also pointed out a dimple thing he has at the base of his spine/ topof his bum cheeks. and asked if either of us have one. I don’t actually know lady, I don’t spend that much time looking at my own bum cheeks? Odd question if you ask me!

LF you crack me up!!!!! N had one of those dimple things on his bottom too and the MCHN aked me the same thing... ummm i have no idea i cant see that part of myself!! LOL!! i dont think Jacob has one, but i should have a bit more of a look i guess! well done on the weight gain, I also weighed J today and he has put on another 700g so is now 1.1kg above birth weight. i havebeen a bit worried about feeding as he is so much quicker than N was but i wont worry anymore. i also wondered about reflux as J throws up a lot more than N did (or as far as i remember) - what did the nurse asked you that made her conclude he didnt have it? Anyway, it sounds like all is going well with you. how much longer have you got of renovations?
Lovelycate - as if they are ever back in bed in an hour?? what planet are some of these 'rules' from? J is sometimes tired and back in bed but to be honest he is now waking up a lot mor ein the day and isnt always back even in 2 hrs... i think i will omit telling my nurse that when i see her.
DH is back at work today - it is ok being at home with J - i am dreading how it will go when i have noah at home too though...
we are off to sydney for the weekend tomorrow...
