Hi everyone....remember me? It has been many many MANY months since I posted on here...but I have been lurking :hide:
I stopped posting because during my pregnancy I became soo anxious about something going wrong that I stopped coming on the BB site all together...something I regret now but at the time was what I needed to do :D
Anyways...Congrats to all of you for the arrival of all these beautiful babies
:happyforyou::happyforyou::happyforyou::happyforyo u:
I had an amazing baby girl...the birth went brilliantly...although I was having 8 minute contractions for 2 and a half days...I was induced at 10am and had baby Lily 4 hours later.
She is a gem :)
Anyways- better get to reading some of your posts before she wakes....see you all soon :)
-
hi delphmoon welcome back and congratulations on the birth of Lily.
-
Delph - So fantastic to see you back again :leap:
Congratulations on the birth or Lily :cheer: 2 1/2 days of labour though :o wow.
I LOVE the name Lily. If we had a little girl I wanted to name her Lily Grace, but DH wanted Abigail or Eleanor. Guess we were saved the trouble of having to decide which we'd go with by having a boy :D
:hello: hello everyone else.
AFU - We have a wedding we're going to this weekend and I found the cutest dress slacks and shirt for B when I was out shopping yesterday. I can't wait to see them on him I reckon he'll look adorable :D
-
Wow, nice to see you back Delphmoon! I wondered where you had got to. Totally understand your anxiety back then.
Thanks for making me think about wedding outfits for babies Dr T! We are going to one next weekend and another.2 weeks after that.
On iPod while feeding Trav. Hurts!
-
Hi ladies,
So sorry for being a bad buddy - I read everything but as I've said before I'm always on the iPhone so its a bit tricky to write a long reply!
First of all - hi Delph!! Course we remember you :D I confess, I'd seen you posting around a bit recently and thought "I wonder if she'll pop back in and say hi..?" So great to see you back and hear that everything went well with little Lily. Beautiful name!!! Hope to see you in here a bit more :D
Dr T and EJ - so cute that your little men will be dressing up for wedding soon! Please take photos and let us see how adorable they look :D We're off to a wedding in Nov but its no kids so no cute photos of my little man...
Dr T - wow on Mr B rolling! He definitely sounds like he's on the move with his Stevie Wonder! So cute!
Salad - I thought the same thing about becoming an LC. I'm really passionate about breastfeeding too, in fact I've just signed up to become a breastfeeding counsellor with the ABA. They offer a Cert IV in Breastfeeding Education, which I have enrolled in and have my first big study session thing on Sunday afternoon. Pretty excited about it all!
I'll put my hand up for a flash mob too! Wonder if we could somehow get this idea off the ground? What do you think???
Jessey - how are you going hun?? Big big hugs... I know some of what you are going through, our DD is being a real PITA at the moment too. DH has been home this week (quiet at work) and we are both completely worn out by her. Can't wait for my in laws to be home so we can send her there for a day to give us a break. She is just so full on - whinges, cries, tantrums, hits our DS because she knows it gets an immediate reaction from us... I just hate it. We don't know what to do either so I don't know that I can offer you any sort of good advice... I'm so sorry...
Can you ignore the behaviour? Or does that just make it worse? What about some sort of time out?
These are the things we are trying with our DD. Its even more difficult at the moment though because she has been sick, we all have, with gastro and now it seems she has conjunctivitis and a cold. Plus I think she's starting to get her 2yo molars and DS is having a wonder week/developmental leap... so he's demanding more attention, which makes DD even more unhappy.
Sigh! All the fun and games of parenting...
EJ and Dr T - your respective people issues are horrendous and I'm so sorry you have to deal with people like that marring this beautiful time in your lives!! Ignore ignore ignore...
Sorry I can't write anything more enlightened than that... I had two kids asleep but now the big one has woken up and is completely delirious, she's just crying and falling all over herself... :wall:
Hope everyone else is going well!
Oh a little update about DS, not really much to update apart from the fact that he is starting to be a little baby now and not so much of a newborn. He's so much more aware, he wants to be part of everything. He's such a happy bub unless tired/hungry/in pain, he smiles at everything and anyone... its adorable. We had one nasty unsettled day where he cried a lot for no apparent reason but thankfully that has settled and he's back to his lovely self. Even yesterday he had the gastro bug that has gone thru our family and he was still happy... his little face would go red, he'd cough or burp, then have a nice big fountain of vomit and have a little cry, I think more because it was getting all over his face, then he'd be smiling again. Poor little mite - I felt so bad for him but he seemed ok!
Better run before DD destroys something...
-
Delphmoon - Welcome back and congrats on the birth of Lily. Gorgeous name :)
Ocean Princess - thanks for the hugs, goodness knows i could use them right now... hope your DD gets better soon, behaviour and health wise
Lyla's slowly getting better (touch wood) its been 2 days since her last tantrum which was a WHOPPER! Went for over 2 hours. When it started i put her in timeout.
She came straight out and smacked me with a hard toy.
Put her back in and told her she was hurting me and she needs to stay here till she can be a nice girl.
She started headbutting and kicking the wall, floor anything really then came back out yelling at me, no words just yelling.
Asked her to use her words and tell mummy what was wrong which just got more yelling
She was wearing a tracksuit so got really hot her hair was wet with sweat, tried to give her a drink and take at least the jumper off. Got smacked, kicked and bitten so let her go, she ran into my room and hid under the doona (great get even hotter :wall: ) tried talking to her.
Offered her all her favourite things if she'd calm down and come out (blue bath, bubble bath, drawing on the ground outside with chalk, make a cake, help me vacuum) nothing worked...
by now she had bitten herself, drew blood once and had a huge bruise for the other... was at my wits end and remembered something someone on here said someone did (said they didn't reccomend it but a friend or someone had done it) so i did that...
I grabbed her facing away from me so she couldn't bite and Lyla and i had a cold shower!
Within seconds she transformed back into my beautiful girl and wanted a cuddle and hasn't tantrumed since.
I'm not proud of what i did but i didn't know what else to do... i really hope that this is the end of the daily tantrums. i know she'll tantrum again, she's a toddler they do sometimes, i just want her to be happy.
Sorry that turned into a me post :/
:hello: to everyone else. Hope you're all doing well xx
-
Jessey - It was me that had mentioned the hosing off. A shower is probably better. My friend took her girl out into the yard and turned the hose onto her :o Same thing, was happening her girl was biting and hurting herself (clawing at her own eyes from memory) and she figured the cold water from the hose couldn't hurt her more then what she was hurting herself. I guess at the end of the day you need to do what you need to do, and if she was hurting herself that much and a cold shower worked...good. I know after that one time all my friend needed to do was threaten with a hose and it would snap her out of it. From memory she only did it once (maybe twice).
 :comfort: with any luck that was all she needed and she won't do it again.
OP - You're not a bad baby buddy. You're just very busy. And it';s completely understandable.
It's so gorgeous when they smile isn't it?! So sorry to hear that you've all been sick....again. I hope you're getting over it now. I also hope things are going better with your DD. I really feel for you and Jessey, it must be really hard to watch them get so upset.
EJ - Have fun shopping for the wedding clothes for T. I know I had heaps of fun!
AFU - the wedding is in about 2 hours, so I'll be getting B dressed soon. Can't wait to see him in his little outfit :D Will definitely take pictures and with any luck the photo album will be fixed soon and I'll be able to put some pictures of him up!
-
Hello everyone...thankyou for the warm welcome back :D
Jessey it sounds like you are having some difficult times but you are managing really really well. I honestly wouldn't have a clue what to do...its funny how children react to change..I think the cold shower thing was the perfect thing to do...As Dr T said- cold water couldn't hurt her more than shes hurting herself. Hang in there
Dr T. Hope the wedding goes well. How exciting it will be to dress B up....boys always look sooo handsome. My nephew was page boy for our wedding and he almost stole the spotlight he was soo gorgeous...LOL
Well little gumnut is goin through a sleep phase which I am totally enjoying...I put her down at 930pm and she sleeps through the night till about 8am...I can't believe it and I hope it never stops.... LOL
Gumnut had tongue tie at birth which meant she couldnt attatch properly for bfing. We did manage though but in the end she still hadnt gained weight by 4 weeks so I had to start expressing milk and FFing her...she is struggling more and more with bfing and I'm lucky if she bf's for more than 10 minutes. So at the moment she is partially breast fed, some expressed breast milk and some formula...the lactation consultant is amazed gumnut tolerates it all...LOL
Now that gumnut is sleepig through she has dropped her 1am and 5am breastfeed (which were usually the best times to feed her) so I'm beginning to dry up. Currently I am expressing like crazy but not much is happening.
Everytime I do bf her I think this could be the last time...:o
Other than that gumnut is brilliant. Very vocal- she has discovered squelling recently :wall: lol
Am keen to hear if any of you ladies are returning to work. I have 7 weeks left then back to it...scary :o
xxxx
-
Delph - I've heard about tongue tie and how it can affect feeding, but I actually don't know what it is
I nearly lost my milk after I had my appendix out and I had a lactation consultant come and give me a whole heap of tips. Maybe some of them could help you with your milk supply. I apologise if you've already been told these things. I was told to express about 15 minutes after a feed. Even if nothing comes out, it's the stimulation that is needed for more milk to be produced. I was also told to wake myself up during the night (if possible) and express some then too, as like you that was when I produced the most. Also drink LOTS AND LOTS of water. I drink about 5 litres a day. Lots of skin to skin contat. Especially when feeding. I only have a diaper on B and unless I am out in public I take both my top and bra off to maximise contact. Also get Gumnuts hand and put it on your breast. Apparently this encourages milk letdown. Especially if bubs starts to kneed your breast. I'm sure there were more things, but those are the only ones I can remember. I know how it felt when I was afraid of loosing my milk, thinking each feed could be the last. I love BF him so much it was really horrible. Hopefully you'll keep producing and being able to feed gumnut for ages to come :)
B is very vocal too, but thankfully has NOT discovered how to squeal yet
I'm going to be returning to work at 6 months. My first day back is January 4th (happy new year to me  ) I'm really not looking forward to it. DH and I are also looking into our finances to see if we can manage if I only go back 3 days a week. Luckily I have a good employer and they allow you to go back part time (3 days a week) until your child is school age. I coulnd't imagine going back in 7 weeks time :o Everything is SO different now and B is doing so many new things every day, I just don't want to miss a thing.
AFU - the wedding was really nice and B was fantastic! I think he definitely stole the show. EVERYONE had a hold of him. He also caught the garter  DH took him up, it was so funny, DH turned around and told all the guys "I have a baby and I'm not afraid to use him" cracked me up. So he got to have a dance with the bride....and a kiss from her. He's such a womanizer going after the older women like that...and a newly married one to boot :D
-
HEy guys.
Dr T- that cracked me up what your DH said. He is obviously a very proud father...very cute :)
I to will be going back to work 2-3 days a week...I am looking forward to it but very anxious at the same time. Gumnut will be looked after by DH so I am having to train him up for it :o that has come with all sorts of interesting issues but we are beginning to resolve them now. DH describes me as a "nag" and "bossy" but I would say I am "knowledgeable" and "sharing that knowledge"
Anyway, FYI- Tongue tie is where the skin at the bottom of the tongue is too tight and won't allow the tongue to move. When babies are in utereo they use their tongue to rub against the top of there mouth to form the palate. With babies with tongue tie the cant move their tongue and therefore have a flat palate which makes breastfeeding very troublesome as they grasp the nipple with their gums instead of using their tongue against the palate. It can also cause speech difficulties later in life.
Anyways in most cases it is corrected easily through a simple procedure where the doc snips the bit of skin holding down the tongue but I had a midwife who wanted me to persevere in trying to get gumnut to feed rather than have a surgical procedure. I was none the wiser and did what she suggested but unfortunately we were unsuccessful and resulted in gumnut developing a very weird palate...the midwife then said yep-get it snipped (4 weeks later) but by then the damage was done :(
Now with Gumnut- she can't hold the nipple in the back of her mouth and push it against her palate...all the can do is sit it in the front of her mouth and hold it with her gums. This is a major issue for when she develops teeth (for obvious reasons). She will feed well but once let down passes and she has to 'work' for the milk she cracks it....and I mean cracks it!!!
Initially my supply wasn't a huge problem as I was expressing, but she has dropped 2 feeds at night and expressing can only do so much. My AF has also returned and the LC said that can dry up supply....anyways I am starting on motilium today so hopefully I can atleast increase my supply enough so she is having EBM instead of being FF.
Oopps...Sorry to bore anyone :o ....but knowledge is power so hopefully it comes in handy if you or your friends need the info one day. Dr T- your ideas are most welcome. I especially like the skin contact stuff...hmmm...forgot about that :o To busy thinking supply, gums, palate, supply etc....LOL...will try more skin contact from now on...thankyou.
Hope everyone else is doing well and getting some good sleeps in! :grouphug:
-
Delph - I don't know about anyone else, but you didn't bore me at all. That's interesting about the tongue tie and the palate stuff. I hope gumnut's palate hasn't been TOO stuffed up and that you don't have any issues down the track with her teeth and speech. I can definitely understand now why you are having such a hard time breast feeding her. I'll keep my fingers crossed :crossfingers: that you'll at least be able to maintain enough supply to express feed her. And DEFINITELY do the skin to skin contact! Hopefully it will help.
That's great that your DH will be taking care of gumnut. We'll have to put B in daycare....well I'll qualify that. We will have to put B in daycare because neither of us trust DH's mother or sister to look after him and his father can only watch him one day a week. So at the moment we have B booked into daycare for 3 days, but we might have to up that to 4 if I have to go back full time.
AFU - Had a massive scare yesterday afternoon. I still get upset just thinking about it. DH had just got home and was cooking dinner and I went to change B but realised we didn't have any diapers up here they were still all hanging up downstairs. I went to get one off the line and as B was crying I took him with me. I went down the back stairs and I must not have been paying enough attention as I missed a step. Thankfully I was nearly at the bottom or I'd have killed both of us. Anyway, I missed a step (third from the bottom I think) and fell. I somehow managed to put one foot on the ground so I didn't fall on top of B, but I twisted my ankle and stumbled again. I held him out again so I wouldn't fall on him and went do onto my knees. I somehow managed to keep him from hitting the ground, but the poor little mite was terrified and just started screaming. DH of course raced down the stairs and I honestly don't think he knew what to do. He wanted to take B but he wanted to help me too. I gave him B and managed to pick myself up off the ground. My knees are a mess, all bruised and bloody, and my ankle is killing me, but B wasn't hurt at all, which is the main thing. Got back upstairs and gave B a huge cuddle and had a massive cry. The whole thing happened in slow motion, felt like it took 10 minutes, and the whole time all I could think was how I needed to protect B and how scared I was that I was going to fall on him or hit his head on the concrete and kill him. It was horrible. Now I am scared to take him out. Because we live in a highset I have to carry him down the stairs to go out anywhere and I am terrified of falling again and not being able to protect him next time.
-
Whoa Dr T.... At times I have wondered what would happen if I tripped over on gumnut or something...It absolutley would have been a frighting experience for you- thankfully you didn't fall on B, but it wouldn't have been your fault if you did  It complicates things even more that you have to go up and down stairs all the time...all I can suggest is that you try not to develop a fear of taking him with you down stairs IYKWIM otherwise it could make things really difficult for you. take it easy going down the stairs and don't focus on not falling if that makes sense...Most of all be kind to yourself Dr T-unfortunately these things happen . I hope your knees heal up really quick  :)
-
Dr T - huge hugs and squishy cuddles... :comfort:
I slipped carrying X a while ago - on the way in to the maternal and child health centre of all places! I had X in the carry case that goes with the pram and DD running ahead, so I was watching her and not where I was walking and stepped on a patch of muddy-slime-coated-concrete. My heel went straight forward and I ended up going down hard on the other knee and the carrier sort of slammed onto the ground. X was fine thankfully...
You can't beat yourself up too much about it hun - it was an accident. You'll take the steps one at a time for a while until you feel confident again. Trust me when I say in a blink of an eye he will be holding your hand walking down them on his own!
I also reckon that even if you'd missed one of the top steps, somehow you would have fallen and kept B safe. It's in our genes - we are programmed to endure masses of pain to protect our little ones. You are a great mum - your first thought was for B. Big hugs.
Delph - my friend's DS (born three weeks after my DS) had tongue tie, which her DH corrected at home!! Not quite as bad as it sounds - he is a doctor, registrar of emergency medicine at one of our big hospitals in Melbourne and has just finished a secondment at the Royal Children's Hospital in Paediatric Emergency! So he's qualified :)
I learned all sorts of stuff about it from her - I hope it hasn't done too much damage to little Gumnut!
-
delphmoon - Sorry to hear about Gumnut's tongue tie, i had heard of it before but had no idea what it was so thanks for explaining. Hope there wasn't too much damage done. Good luck with the EBM i'll have my fingers crossed for you
Dr Tal - Sounds like you had a good time at the wedding :) so cute that B is a ladies man already
As for the fall when i was pg i was at my mum's side stepped off a ledge was holding Lyla on my right side which is the way i was falling but i somehow managed to get her onto my left side to land on top of me!
She didn't get so much as a scratch, me on the other hand... lol.
Like Oceanprincess said - We are programmed to protect our babies no matter what happens to ourselves in doing so.
AFU we're good still no more tantrums! WOOHOO! She gets stroppy but what 2 year old (or any agedd person for that matter) doesn't?
Shay is such a placid, happy little girl. I'm actually happy with life at the moment which is awesome :)
We will be moving in 2 weeks to a house with a yard for Miss Lyla which will hopefully make her a happier girl. She loves it outside but the house we're in now doesn't have a yard so she's inside or on the veranda all the time. Also they allow pets so we can get her a dog  so excited! lol
Hope everyone else is well xx
-
Morning all :)
Jessey- good to hear no more tantrums. Hopefully it was all a phase and she has worked out where the boundaries are. And your moving house? It must be busy times at your house right now...I hate packing. A backyard for little miss sounds perfect for everyone and especially with the nice weather starting it will no doubt get some good use.
:hello: OP. Hope all is going well with you and I hope your feeling better Dr T and those knees have improved :)
AFU- Gumnut had her immunisations yesterday. DH had to hold her because I was worried I would cry when she cried and guess what...DH had a tear or two instead...he said next time her won't hold her because he felt like he was being the 'bad guy'...I spose I have to be the bad guy next time then...lol...Anyways...she had a very restless night...no temp or anything-just grumpy. Poor love.
My AF has returned and (TMI) I am having a very heavy flow- 1 pad every 2 hours or so...hmmm...and its day 3 of it. Am not sure if a weird heavy flow is normal for the first AF after giving birth :dunno:
On the upside- I started on motilium yesterday which increases breast milk production and even though they said it takes 5-7 days to work I had both boobs dripping all over the place this morning  I did as DR T suggested and have been drinking heaps of water so :crossfingers: it keeps up.
Hope everyone is traveling well
-
Thanks everyone. I'm my knees aren't quite as bad as they were anymore but I just got home from the doctor as my belly button incision really startted to hurt again. The doctor says I have a boarderline hernia...probably from the fall. He said I'll have to monitor it which means a doctors visit every week until it either heals or he decides it has gotten worse and I need another operaction
Delph - WOOHOO :leap: that's fantastic about your milk dripping all over the place!! Drink lots and lots of water. I have three water bottles that I constantly haver full and placed strategically around the house so no matter which room I am in I can drink it and don't have any excuses not to. DH says I'm good at 'concocting' excuses
I'm making DH take B for his next shots because I felt so horrible about it. I nearly did start to cry.
Jessey - That's great about DD1. You must be very relieved.
I didn't know you were moving. Hopefully the move goes smoothly for you. I always hate packing. It will be fantastic that you'll have a yard for your little one to run around in. She'll love that
OP - I can believe that it will feel like no time before B is running up and down the stairs on his own. He's al;ready growing SO FAST :o
:hello: hi to everyone else.
AFU - I made myself take B out with me both yesterday and today when I fed the birds. I also made myself take him down with me and put him in the bouncer when I hung the clothes out. Was still really nervous about it. Oh well.
Do any of you have any suggestions for cradle cap? I think B has it :(
gotta run. B just woke
-
:hello:
Hows it going Dr T- hopefully your not hiding inside and avoiding steps :D LOL As for the cradle cap I know there is some special shampoo you can get from the pharmacy but I cant remember what it is called...will find out
Pretty quiet around ATM- everyone busy with their babes..
Little gumnut has had me running around. She had her immunisations and has been grissly. Occasional smiles but mostly not knowing what she wants :wall:. She did however feed at the boob for 15 mins each time yesterday and had only one bottle of formula at 6pm otherwise she was fully breastfed....I was ecstatic...
Well, better do some housework while she is sleeping...GO THE PIES....LOL
:grouphug:
-
Delph - That's FANTASTIC that you were able to BF your little gumnut so often yesterday. Only one bottle of formula! :o Looks like that medicine you are taking is really helping (and maybe a bit of help from the skin to skin and extra water as well ;) )
No, I'm not hiding in the house, but I do have to admit I'm not taking him outside with me as much as I did before the fall.
Jessey - I forgot to ask if you knew what sort of dog you were going to be getting when you move into your new place :D
AFU - B has slepth through the entire night all week. Before he'd only wake up once a night , and sleep through about once a week. But he's slept through every night this week. Which has been nice except for the fact that I wake up with soaking wet sheets and blankets  I even wore my bra and heavy breast pads last night, but soaked through the pads and STILL got my sheets and blanket soaking wet. I think I might have to set an alarm to wake up about 3 express a bit and then go back to bed :shakehead:
-
Hi everyone, just a quick one, typing with one hand.
Dr Tal - scary about the fall glad you guys are ok, thats one of my fears. My friend fell over earlier this year with her little man in her arms, she protected him although he did go for a roll, only on the grass though. Shr broke her ankle on one leg and snapped ligaments in the other and ended up in a wheel chair. They live out of town too so her MIL had to come and help her everyday.
As for cradle cap, I make up a paste of bicarb and water, and paint or smear it all over the cradle cap, just watch the eyes as it dries so little B doesnt rub it around, once it dries rinse it off shampoo his head and if you have a soft brush, brush all over the head in circular motion, to get the shampoo right into it (if you dont have a brush use a face washer) then rinse it all off well, you may need to do it a few days in a row, but it wont come back. They say waashing their har before the bath not in the bath helps prevent it.
ummm sorry everyone else, I cant remember who said what but I will keep up with it all now, how rude I am
AFM - not much to report, was suppposed to launch website/business today but had a small set back, so hopefully in the next week. We are all good, going along nicely, few little issues but nothing major.
Talk soon xoxo
-
Salad - I tried to send you a private message but your inbox is full.
Wow, compared to what your friend did to herself I came out of it easy.
Thanks for the information on cradle cap. Will make up the paste tonight and give it a try. And I do have a soft brush, so I'll make sure that I brush the shampoo in very well.
AFU - I forgot to mention in my earlier post that I've been teaching B to blow raspberries. He cracks me up. I'll do one and he gets a huge smile and giggles, then he'll stick his tongue out. Sometimes it looks like he's trying to blow too as little spit bubbles will come out the corner of his mouth. Then he'll just giggle and giggle while kicking his legs and waving his arms about. Then I'll do another one and so it. DH was holding him last night and B stuck his tongue out at him and started to giggle so I explained to him what B was doing so DH sat with him for the next 20 minutes or so and blew raspberries at him. It was really cute.
-
Over the dramas of moving already and we haven't even started... Real estate is USELESS and the owners are no better! Can't wait to get out of this crappy place into a place that's doors actually close, it doesn't flood when its raining, or sink and have to be jacked up every couple of months  it will also be great not to be sharing any more just me and my family woohoo. Note to self no matter what sob story people spin to us in the future there will be no house sharing lol
Dr Tal - i really don't know lol i love pretty much all dogs so just gonna look around and see what my choices are.
Would love another Staffy but the fences aren't real high and staffies are awesome climbers haha.
Would also love a great dane but yard isn't big enough and Lyla's not very confident with big dogs.
I was thinking maybe a ****er spaniel or a gordon setter... Ahhh i don't know lol A small to medium dog that's good with kids.
If you have any suggestions let me know :)
Your DH sounds like a real doting dad, beautiful. And it sound really cute about B and the raspberries :D
Salad - You're not rude just busy ;)
hope all goes well for your website launch for next week :goodluck:
delphmoon - hope Gumnut gets over her immunisations quickly poor little chook i hate immunisation time i cried the first time DD1 got hers (and the second and the third lol) cried when Shay got hers and the child health nurse thought it was sweet DF just thought i was a sook
:hello: to everyone else
-
Jessey - I wouldn't completely rule out a great dane if you really want one. They aren't actually very active dogs due to their size. They do enjoy a good play though. As long as you make sure you play with them once or twice a day ( a really good play, which won't be hard with a little one to run around with) they're pretty inactive the rest of the time. They are also remarkably gentle dogs and are good with children. They also tend to be VERY protective of kids whish is always a bonus as well. You do haev to be careful when buying one though as they are very prone to hip dysplasia and glaucoma.
That's my Great dane speil :D I guess it really depends on what you are looking for though as far as what type of dog you get. DO be careful if you get a spaniel though. While a lot of them are smaller dogs they are very high strung and need LOTS of excersize, so realistically they tend to need a larger dog then a dane would. They can also get a bit nippy, which can be a problem around small children. So9me do have better temperments then others though.
AFU - My big boy went totally blind last night (he has rapid onset gluacoma and lost site in one eye over a year ago, and just lost the other one last night). I'm pretty devastated about it I really don't know what to do. I don't want to put him down, but I don't want to keep him alove just for me. I want him to have a decent quality of life. So do anyt of you had, or know anyone who has had a blind dog. And if you have did the dog go blind later in life or when they were younger? (my boy is 9 1/2) I At the moment he's just really scared and doesn't know what is happening. He won't leave my side. I'm takign him into the vet later today, I won't be making any decisions straight away, I just want to have him looked at.
-
Thanks for the info am gonna do some research before i decide :)
your poor boy :( how frightening for him. I wouldn't have a clue what to do if i were in your position...
Good luck i hope you find a solution to suit you both with a happy outcome

Awww...Dr T...its just sooo sad when our cherished pets start to decline. My 10 yo blue heeler has breast cancer. We have been having the lumps removed for a year or so but they keep coming back. We have decided enough is enough and plan on keeping her comfortable and pain free...big hugs to you and your 'big boy'
Jessey. It sounds like you are living in my old house...LOL...except they never jacked the house up they just let it sink! I hope you get an amazing house that you just love!
:hello: everyone else!!!!
AFU: Gumnut is just the best..lol.. She has her baptism this weekend...Mum made her the most adorable dress...I can't wait. I'm not a catholic (DH is) so I'm looking forward to the dress and the photos more than anything...LOL...
AND
My breast milk is still flowing
This week has been a real turning point for DH and gumnut. DH is a wonderful caring Daddy. He hates it when gumnut cries and he takes it personally so when gumnut is sitting with him and starts crying he gets upset and hands her to me. I have been trying to explain that it isn't him but more she is tired/hungry/bored etc. I refused to let him hand her to me (as much as I wanted her lol) and told him he has to learn to manage her. He felt I was bossing him around when I would say things like sit her up, hug her...etc...but after persistence and long talks DH and gumnut are inseparable. He has learnt to 'read' her....I'm soo pleased!!!
He put her to bed last night which he hasn't done before as he believed he upsets her...well anyway...last night I stood in the door way and whispered to him what to do...I was praying she would go to sleep because he really needed it IYGWIM...anyways...she feel to sleep straight away...thank god...and he was as pleased as punch. He came out of her room chest puffed out...sooo cute...LOL
Anyway- I hope everyone is doing well and all the "July" babies are strong and healthy bundles! :grouphug:
-
delphmoon - Yay for still having milk :) And i hope Gumnuts baptism goes well
That sux that they never jacked up your old place its so frustrating. Cos the house sinks most doors don't close, they either scrape along the polished wooden floors  or the hole in the door jam they're supposed to click into don't line up :wall: IYKWIM
so sweet about your DH sounds like he's an awesome daddy :)
-
aww delph I got all teary with that stuff about gumnut and your DH, its so sweet, my DH is the same he loves our kids so much, he is a really emotional guy,you know not scared to cry and tells you how he is feeling, sounds like a big girl lol but he is the biggest strongest bloke, a real bloke but one who is in touch with him emotions. Thats the cancer starsign in the July baby boys so all you gals out there with July boys they are a real catch and great men to have in your lives. I am really blessed as My DH, DS, my FIL and GFIL are all July boys (cancer starsign) and they are all the same, could not get more kinder loving caring intelligent people.
Dr Tal - I am so sorry to hear about your dog, they are like family arent they. I have a 9 year old chihuahua and she was hit by a car a couple of weeks ago and I thought we might have had to put her down but she pulled through, I was a sobbing mess when I was faced with the reality that she may not be with us anymore. I swear she is a cat, she has been run over by a motorbike too and survived that.
My grandparents had a blind dog and she found her way around ok, I think its when they are bumping into things and have no quality of life that its best not to be cruel and send them to dog heaven. I know its not an easy decision to make but if the dog is miserable I think its not fair on the dog. Big :hugs: to you, I wish I could give you a hug in real life.
AFM - not much more to report, DS is a little gem, he is trying to roll over, I said to DH the other day I dont think he is going to roll anytime soon but on sunday he started to there you go I will eat my words.
Starting to suffer a bit of hayfever and apparently there is nothing you can take if you are breastfeeding. It hurts so much and ends up turning into a migraine. I have heard of Brauer allergy relief so might check that out tomorrow.
Hi to everyone else
-
Hi everyone!!! i am soooooo sorry i have been sooo slack!! I havent even had time to read posts let alone write anything!! I have had visitors coming in and out for the last few weeks!! Its been great to catch up with people, but hectic at the same time!!! And sooooo much washing of sheets and towels i felt like a bed and breakfast!!! :)
So sorry i have no personals coz i havent read back through the posts, except for whats on this page and salad.. i have a july man too!!! He is a big sooky lala who looks like an ox!! (ox is his chinese sign!!) He is definately better at expressing emotions than i am and he is always the one who wants to "talk" about things alot more than i do!!! :D
AFU we are all doing great! Getting into some kind of regular routine- Kaleisha is just an honestt to god dream baby- if i could be gaurenteed ten of her i would have ten kids!! I swear, she is just the best- she is getting bigger and she has discovered she has hands that are really tasty! Shane is going great too- he is being a terrific big brother and loves putting K's dummy back in her mouth and making her smile- he isnt much for cuddles with her, but loves laying down with her in the jungle playthingy and is always the first to hear her noises when she wakes up (yes noises- she doesnt cry lol she makes noises!! lol) I think he is dropping his day sleep though which has been fun!! He starts day care for one day a week next week- so that will be nice for me and K to have some mummy daughter time!!
Well i am being summonsed to play farms, so i wll really try to make an effort to pop in here more!! i hope everyone is well and tonight i might try and read up on all the posts i have missed!!!
Take care everyone!!! xxoo

HI SB - dont stress we all know what its like.
My DS is the same he never cries when he wakes up even when he is hungry he just coos and I go pick him up and feed him, unlike my DD when she was little and still now wakes up either crying or grumpy she is a capricorn and you never know what you are going to get with them. My sister is a capricorn also and she is the same, she said to me, dont talk to a capricorn in the morning until they talk to you, so we just let DD wake up first then she is fine lol.
-
Hey all.
SB- I didn't post for months so I'm sure your week or soo is totally ok! LOL...How very cute that your DS helps out...I can imagine how hectic it must be...I don;t know how you guys do it...one baby is hard enough... :)
Not much to report really. DD Is still sleep through the night  it continues. I have started scrapbooking the millions of photos I have of her- not the fancy scrapbooking, just the normal style.....I'm not that creative. DH bought me an early anniversary present...a high tech camera...not that I know how to use the high tech stuff... lol Now I am even more excited about her baptism on Sunday...more millions of photos....
Yesterday DD was very shi^^y...she didn't have her nap and by dinner she was crying her head off. DH said "let me try" and within a minute she was smiling at him and within five minutes she was asleep. DH didn't want to wake her so he said to leave tea in the microwave and he sat for an hour and looked at her... My heart was bursting with happiness...they have made it :leap:
Salad- My brother in law is a cancer and he is exactly as you described...weird hey!
:hello: to everyone!!! Enjoy your day
-
Delph - How cute about your DH and Gumnut. It's so fantastic to watch them interact and bond isn't it?
That's really nice that your DH bought you a high tech camera. Sounds like you're going to have lots and lots of funny taking photos at the baptism!
That's really sad about your blue heeler  I can definitely sympathise (I lost my big boy's older sister, same parents different litter, to cancer...very hard)
Salad - My DH is a Scorpion not a Cancer, but he's still a real softie, not that you'd pick it from looking at him. We'll often be watching a show with a sad part and I'll look over and he'll have a tear in his eye. And Monday when I called him to tell him about my big boy being blind (my boy is a bit lazy and won't think about getting out of bed until I do) he came home from work at lunch with a massive pork chop for me to cook for him. I broke down sobbing and when I looked at him he had huge tears running down his face too.
As for what I am going to do with my boy. I still am not sure yet. I do know that I won't let him suffer though. I love him too much for that.
B hardly ever cries too. I'll hear him moving around in his cot (he doesn't ever really makes sounds) and when I go over to check on him his eyes will be wide open and he'll give me the cutest grin :D
SB - I wouldn't worry too much about it. I can imagine that looking after two little ones would take up all your time. I only have the one and I often wonder where my day has gone.
That's so sweet about Shane giving your DD her dummy back. It sounds like he's a doting big brother!
Jessey - The place you're living at the moment sounds horrible! I couldn't imagine not being able to shut our doors. That having been said we never actually do close any of the doors, anyone would be nuts to try to get in past DH's dog, but that's not the point really, I like to be able to know I CAN shut them if I want to
AFU - Took my boy to the vet Monday afternoon. She said the blindness COULD be from an inflamation on his optic nerve. It's unlikely given his glaucoma and that he's already gone blind in one eye from it, but she gave me some medications to try anyway. I had a long talk to her about quality of life and getting around totally blind. She said often older dogs deal with it better then younger ones because they know their owners better and they know their surroundings and feel comfortable. But as with people each dog is different. So at the moment I am going to give him some time and see how he goes. He's not real active anymore anywya, so that's a plus. So far he's just really confused, but I've been taking him in and out to pee and eat and whatnot and he seems okay with following my voice. He can already find his water on his ownand he's getting better with the stairs. I'm just praying  he's one of the dogs that copes just fine.
On a happier note B is really close to rolling from his back to his belly. He gets onto his side heaps now and he's gotten his legs over as well a couple of times, but he has this pesky arm that keeps getting in his way. He get SO frustrated, it's pretty funny
-
 Dr T. I too hope your big boy copes well with it all  Atleast he still has his hearing and is obviously reassured and responding to your voice...
How cute that B is rolling!! Gumnut almost rolled from her tummy to her back but after several attempts she buried her head in the ground and cried..awww....She sticks everything in her mouth but hates her dummy...drives me crazy as she slobbers all over me all day...
Speak of the devil...lol! Have a great day everyone !
-
Dr Tal - of course your DH is a softie, I am a scorpio too lol, cancer and scorpios are perfect matches according to astrology, which might explain why my DH and I have been together since we were 15 (almost 15 years) we hardly ever argue and we very very rarely fight, we know what each other is thinking without saying a word, we are soul mates. I am hoping that translates into my relationship with E and that we have a great mother son relationship.
Hope you doggy is ok, thats sweet about you DH and the chop, aww I feel like crying now.
I think if I decide to have a 3rd baby, I will try for a July baby again lol
-
Sal - that's funny about trying for another July baby, cause that's exactly what I was thinking...well not my third but my second  Although I was thinking for different reasons, because it's when my mum is able to come out to visit and I know how much she'd love to be here for the birth of my second as well.
So what does the astrology reckon about Virgos and Scorpios and Virgos and Cancers for that matter? It's kind of funny because in my unit at work there are 6 people and 4 of us are Virgos and we're all almost exactly alike :o also if you've read the book Personality Plus we're all Meloncholy (not sure if that is spelled right) as well. Drives our supervisor NUTS (can't remember what star sign he is) but he's a Sanguine and just doesn't get why we get all flustered when he moves our files around or is late for a meeting or whatnot! And when we're doing up something he's asked for it takes us ages because everything has to be PERFECT and he just wants it fast and figures he can bull$#it the rest :shakehead:
Also, I keep forgetting to tell you, I've tried what you suggested for cradle cap and it's nearly cleared up now. I think after today and maybe tomorrow it will be gone. So thank you.
Delph - B only just started sucking/slobbering all over me earlier in the week. He seems to much prefer my arm to gum on and goo up then anything else....AND I think he nearly gave me a hicky on my forearm yesterday :o
AFU - So far my big boy seems to be doing okay. He bumbles around a lot, but he doesn't seem scared about it anymore and he can get in and out of the house on his own now. DH came home from work early yesterday and put extra rails up on both sides of each of the stairs into and out of the house so he doesn't need to worry about falling off them anymore. He's also looking into changing one of the sets of stairs into a ramp on the weekend so he can get in and out even easier. Honestly I didn't know he cared for him so much. They had a bit of a rough start to their relationship. I had my big boy for about 3 years before I met DH and he really resented DH when we started to see each other. He'd sit between us on the couch and when DH started staying over he would growl and grump at him when he got into bed and if DH got out at all during the night when he came back my boy would be laying on his side of the bed on the pillow just glaring at him. That's sort of become a bit of a game for them now though. Everynight as DH is getting ready for bed my boy jumps up on his side and rubs his head all over his pillow and messes up his blankets then you can almost see the smile when DH comes into the room. DH calls him an 'old ba$t@rd' but doesn't move him straight away, he'll get in next to him and give him cuddles and pets him. Then with a huge grump and huff my boy will jump onto the floor and lay by my side of the bed. Cracks me up every time. But my boy didn't really warm up to DH that much until we got married, so just a bit over 3 years ago!
Sorry, went on a bit long there...just in case you couldn't tell I really love my big boy. But onto my little boy B now :D He's started to put things into his mouth now....not just my arm. I've got a few wrist rattles that he is constatly sucking on and he's got one of those play gyms and he'll sometimes manage to grab a rattle or teether on that and into the mouth it goes! He's also started to make spit about 2 weeks ago now (he didn't really seem to have much before that) so everything is covered in baby slobber....including the dogs if they get too close. He's not above latching onto them and trying for a suck, much to their horror...they always manage to look so indignant about it!
-
Dr Tal - good thinking about 2nd baby in July coz of your mum, good idea I think.
Virgo's and scorpios lol, both like to have and work towards goals, scorpios like this about virgos, once a scorpio finds a loyal virgo they bond really well, both signs are all about love "for life" for a long time which makes them compatable when they find each other. both signs dont jump into relationships easy and suss each other out a bit first. Virgo parents to a cancer baby is a great combo, read this, it says it better than I could:
Virgo Parent/Cancer Child: Being domestic by nature, the Virgo parent in this combination will create a sanctuary of peace and tranquility to which his or her little Cancer can retreat whenever necessary. It is vitally important to the healthy development of the Cancer child that he or she be afforded such an environment in order to dispel the need of this little one to build a hard shell of personal protection. The end result of a Cancer child who is brought up by a Virgo parent will be a youngster who has a healthy awareness of his or her emotional self. This parent/child relationship invariably proves to be a most positive one.
Glad the cradle cap remedy worked, E just has it on his forehead now, its stubborn, get it off and it weeps and makes more grrr I will win.
OP - where are you? hope all is ok. How did you go with the ABA counselling class. I also did a google search just out of interest for the "BF flash mob" it has been done before in america but thats all I could find. I am keen to do it here in OZ to raise some money for the ABA, it would be good if an ABA rep/counsellor/consultant could be present at locations around australia to collect donations, this would be the part that would take the most research etc to see what rules apply. I want to look into it more but trying to get my business up and running first.
-
Hey hey!
Still here, read everything but on phone so a bit tricky to reply apart from a short one liner!
Will try and get on computer soon..,
Hugs to all!
-
Ok!! I'm on the computer while DS sleeps and DD is entertained by Dora... bad mummy, bad mummy! I just wanted a moment's peace...
Sal - well my sis and I have completed one unit of our training, yay! We've started another one, just need to finish the assessment, which involves helping out at an ABA stand somewhere, at a festival or something. Not a problem as our area has tonnes of festivals, town fairs, etc. I think we'll do one in November and then we'll have done our second unit!
When your business is all happening (can you PM me the link by the way?) and you want to talk a bit more about the flash mob, happy to bounce some ideas around! It sounds great.
Re: cradle cap. Not sure if we have it, or the beginnings, or what. DS has some little flakes on his head, quite small, in little patches. Does that sound like cradle cap? DH just rubs them in the bath ATM, that seems to be keeping them at bay. Wondering if I should try something else...
Dr T - I cried a little bit when I read your post about your big boy. Its so tough when they get old, isn't it? And how cute about him and your DH. My DH is the same with our car, who was my cat... he maintains he doesn't like her but when I'm not looking he gives her rubs behind the ear and is actually quite affectionate towards her. I think he just has a thing about being a "dog" person so he sort of feels he has to not like her!
B sounds like he's growing and developing quite quickly! I hear ya on the slobber - we're getting it too! X's favourite past time now is to shove his fist in his mouth and give it a big slurp. Sometimes he'll manage to grab one of the toys hanging from his play mat thing and then gets this expression on his face like "How did I do that?" its quite cute.
We're not rolling yet - he's done it a few times from tummy to back (the easy one) but not the other way and this is fine with me!! He can stay immobile for a bit longer
Delph - great to hear your BFing is getting back on track!! Hope it continues to go from strength to strength. How did Gumnut's baptism go?
That is so beautiful about your DH and DD and the dinner thing. So cute. Must have been a nice break for you as well :D
How's your new camera? We got one recently too - what did you get? DH is loving taking heaps of happy snaps, I must admit more of DD than of DS at the moment!
How great about the night sleeps! We were having just one wake up, which was bliss, but the last couple of nights have been two or three. I hope its a temporary thing and we go back to once a night, or less even! DD was a terrible sleeper, waking every two-four hours or so until she was about 8mths and not starting to sleep 12hrs until about 12mths, so I am hoping to avoid that this time round...
SB - sounds like your two are keeping you nice and busy! I had to chuckle at your "big sooky lala ox" description of DH, reminded me of an ex of mine who was also a July man!! Exact description just about!
Jessey - how are the moving dramas going? Sorting themselves out?? How's DD going? We have found our DD is slowly getting better - growing out of it all I think. And she is developing more language skills too, which I think is helping immensely as she is able to express herself better. Though if she doesn't get enough sleep she still goes a bit feral!
We haven't had a massive tantrum like we had a few weeks ago since then. Hoping its been the same for you guys - nothing since the shower incident!
I've also started putting DS down in his cot during the day, which means I'm not tied to the bouncer and I can spend more time with DD and ensure she isn't getting bored, which I think was another of our problems.
AFU: as above, I have started putting DS in his cot for day sleeps. He's great in there at night but days are a bit hit and miss. Sometimes I have to revert back to the bouncer as I'm worried he's going to wake DD during the day... but we're getting there. He's been down right now since 3pm... grizzled a bit but went to sleep and is having a big sleep!!! First time ever - his day sleeps are normally just 40mins!
Its funny how different I am with the two kids - with DD I was obsessed with getting her to sleep "through the sleep cycle", ie longer than 40mins... I'd be clock watching and make sure I went to her after about 35mins to try and soothe her through to a second sleep cycle. Never really worked and I think that she just figured it out herself eventually... in the mean time I'd worked myself up that I wasn't a good mum if I couldn't get my daughter to sleep enough... well DS sleeps what he sleeps, when he sleeps and if he wakes aftert 40mins, bah! So be it!!
Like you guys, he wakes so happy, I'm hardly going to stand there rocking and patting and trying to get him to sleep more if he's awake, alert and happy. He'll work it out just like his sister did!
He's so big - we're going for a weigh in on Tuesday I think but he's into size zero clothes :o More for length and feet than anything else! He's not very chubby round the middle but his grow suits and onesies were just too small in the length and feet, he was squished into double zeros. So we're up to zero! Scary!!
He's also started vocalising a lot - makes lots of noises and seems to be trying out his whole vocal range. Its quite cute and lovely that that's what he wakes up to. DD seems to wake up crying more often than not! Sigh!
Hope everyone else is going well! As I said before - I do read everything but its just the getting onto the computer part! I'll try and do it more often :D
:grouphug:
-
Just a very quick post as I really need to get into bed.
I FINALLY managed to get some new pictures of Brock uploaded into my album if any of you are interested in a look.
-
Wow! OceanPrincess that is an EPIC post lol
:o size zero already! Big boy :) yay for vocalising i love when they start babbling so beautiful.
Moving drama's are what they are lol they happen everytime and don't go away til i'm settled in my new place. But now telstra is charging $125 to transfer our home phone and an extra $59 for the internet :o can't believe it! The representative on the phone asked me if i was "happy" with the costs i said "no! But that's not going to change anything is it?" the reply "well no..." THEN WHY ASK!? :wall:
DD hasn't had a tantrum since the shower incident. She'll start and i have to get down on my knees so i'm at her eye level and ask her to use her words and she'll either just have a good cry or try and put into words what is wrong. Lyla has grown up a lot since Shay has arrived i was a bit emotional about it yesterday because she's growing up so fast  i asked her to come to me yesterday and she yelled from down the hallway "I'm busy now Mummy" :( lol silly thing to get emotional over but yeah...
Delphmoon - Hope Gumnut's baptism is a wonderful day and you get heaps of beautiful photos on your fancy camera ;)
I probably won't be on again til after we move, we get the key on the 14th.
Hope everyone is well xx
-
Hi everyone! Bah, I haven't been getting emails to let me know there's a post so didn't think anything had been happening. Logged on to write a hello where is everyone and had a lot to read!!!
Jessey, good luck with the move. I'll be looking forward to hearing about your new place when you get settled in! And boo to Telstra! Rip off merchants.
OP - Travis is doing lots of babbling too, it is really cute! He definitely has different tones of voice when he's happy, frustrated, tired, but I haven't figured it out yet. How about you with X?
Dr T - checked out the photos of B, what a cutie! Had been thinking about you on your horse recently - I went to the physiotherapist to talk about getting back into trampoline and they said it's really bad for impact on the pelvic floor muscles - right behind horse riding!! And I know you were having some issues with your pf exercises, did you ever get that sorted out?
Sal - how about Gemini (me) and Sagitarius (I think that's DH - he's born early Dec) couples?
Sounds like Evan is a great baby! Travis doesn't cry anywhere near as much as he used to. Most of the time when he does cry for prolonged periods, when he does a poo or a fart he is happy again/ finally able to go to sleep! Charming eh?
Do you remember me saying we were going to call our baby Ethan but then Dani Minogue called her baby that and we weren't sure? I don't think I mentioned why we didn't end up going with that name. It was quite funny actually. The day before T was born, MIL and her partner R came over. R's daughter and her family were staying with them at the time and R mentioned something about Ethan and I realized he was talking about his grandkid! We have only met them once and so totally forgot. Since they're practically DH's step nephews we thought we better not make things confusing by calling our son Ethan too. That night we went through the top 100 boys names on a bunch of websites, couldn't agree on any so tried the next best source of boys names - the list of Brisbane Lions players! Hee hee. Travis was the only one we both liked so when he was born the next day that's the name he got! No time to reconsider. :D
Delphmoon - gumnut is such a great name. :) Congrats on your BFing continuing! I hope you post the photos of her baptism. I bet she will be too cute!
StarBright - nice to hear you have a great happy family. :) I know what you mean about K finding her hands. T has too, and has set himself the challenge of fitting both fists in his mouth at once. It's so cute! But the last month or so there has been so much slobber. We used to need to put bibs on for his puking, but the puking stopped and we didn't need them for a while. Now we do again!
Gotta run, hope everyone is having a great weekend!
-
Bugger...literally just finished ready everyones stuff and go to reply and Gumnut wakes...arrgggg...hi all...Bye all
