Welcome Tubbles :) If you're on FB add me (Mel Abbott) my pic is bubby in a blue blanket :)
Mrs Hendo - great idea! I have facebook emailed you :)
Entreat - I hear you on the fat/putting on weight thing. My little one is getting massive! X is getting weighed tomorrow but I keep looking at her and feeling a little sad wondering where my baby went! I actually feel like that first week was SUCH a blur that I didn't really take time to appreciate how tiny she was. I should have stripped her down and had a better look at her, I felt like I was just going through the motions a little bit.
Belle - hope things are better now Xx
Livvielou - FAB to hear from you. Have I said how much I love love love Eadie's name?
Tubbles - welcome and hello :)
Big hi's to everyone else!
I had a really big day today - worked 7 hours in the office my biggest day so far. It was actually a bit crappy, I went onsite to a clients for about 5 of those hours and really should have expressed during that time. BUT I felt like I couldn't because they only have 1 toilet and I just felt awkward about the whole thing. Luckily I had a scarf and a black top on and the black top ended up fairly soaked but you couldn't tell. I didn't go back to the office but came home and expressed straight away. I am going to have to plan things a bit better or get more confident about expressing when I am out and away from my baby. This is all a bit hard :(
Hi everyone and welcome to all the new people! I wrote a HUGE post yesterday with heaps of personals, and then lost it due to my yucky wireless connection - arrrgh! So then I sulked and went and had a lay down (which I sorely needed - bubba likes to cluster feed from about 3am... and ds1 is still having some sleep issues although has improved heaps on the first week.) I just don't feel like I have the energy to retype it all either i'm sorry!
Hey I love how Z is making more noises now... little 'talks'... two and a half weeks old and already changing... gosh soon he will be 6 weeks and smiling and it will be full steam ahead... amazing how quickly it goes...
Am I the only one who is a bad baby-talker? When Z's stomach complains i call them the 'gurbly burbles' or the 'gurbly goos'... and when he is swaddled he is the 'zachapillar'... this is just the beginning!!!!
will try and get back on later and re-do some of those personals! xx
oh boo. I just lost my post.
I haven't really caught up with all the other posts before I joined so can't really do any personals, but I have skimmed through them and will write some soon.
Are there many first time mums in here? I am one, and feel like I am still struggling sometimes to figure things out. But I guess its all a learning experience :)
Is anyone using MCNs? We are trying to use them, but don't have a fully stocked supply yet. We only have about a day and a half's worth of them, and with the cold and rainy weather, its taking days to dry so are using disposables in between. Need to figure out what ones we like most so we can buy some more of them.
I am in the FB bellybelly group, but there is like 400+ people in there so I don't post much, if at all. Is there a group for this group on FB?
Hi again,
Welcome to Tubbles and Lily and Belle and Parker! And glad to see Livvielou still around - have been thinking of you and your gorgeous girl, I hope you're resting and recovering.
Regarding Facebook - we don't have a group that we're all in, but most of us are friends on Facebook. You can add me HERE and I can introduce you to the other girls I'm already friends with!
Re: leaking boobs, I thought I wasn't really having that problem but I've soaked a few breastpads and made a mess of a few tops. Luckily my biggest leaking problem happened whilst at my first ABA meeting yesterday, so I figure that's the best place to have it happen :p
We're still not on full-time MCNs, and am disappointed that the few times we've used them we've had leaking problems :( I have bought a couple of BBH night nappies so hoping that will help minimise the late-night changes in the cold of winter. I'm going to stick with the MCNs until I've worked them out but for now we're alternating sposies and MCNs.
Things are going fairly well here. DH goes back to work next week. We decided that this week would be a good opportunity for DH to step back a little so that I can start taking over the majority of A's care (and get the hang of being on my own during the day). Apparently for DH that means doing bugger-all, sitting on the computer all day, and occasionally offering advice about what I should be doing  Okay, so it's not that bad, but I am a bit annoyed that he sometimes has selective hearing when it comes to hearing Archie fuss and get upset. I'm looking forward to being a SAHM and ruling the roost again.
A does seem to having a fussy period atm, and I think it might be a Wonder Week. He's meant to be in a Wonder Week at 5 weeks past his EDD - and that's about now. He has been on and off the boob, getting upset when he gets milk, then refusing the dummy and nuzzling for the boob again. He's also had some bad wind for a few days which makes him so uncomfortable, and he's been pretty clingy too - sometimes only wanting a cuddle. Is anyone else reading the Wonder Weeks? I'm hoping this is what A is going through, cause it's been a trying couple of days.
Anyway, I have to go. Hope you're all surviving and getting some rest and of course, lots of delicious cuddles.
Seph, I have to be honest - I had to google "what are wonder weeks" as I had no idea what you were talking about but wow, it sure sounds interesting! I have signed up for their email to find out some more information. Which MCN's are you using that have had leaks? Do you think it's a fit problem or a nappy problem? We haven't had many leaks but are using mostly prefolds and covers during the day and since you can fold them to fit I think we are avoiding lots of leaks that way.
Tubbles - MCN's are one of my fave topics at the moment :) We are using them pretty much full time. We probably use about 2 disposables a week and that's only when we go out and she needs changing more than once. As I mentioned above, we are using prefolds and covers which from what I can gather is a pretty cheap way to do cloth and not as difficult as I first thought. Plus, the fit is heaps smaller than the OSFM/OSFA Mcn's that I have. We are also using BBH petites and Thirsties. I have some peapods, cushie tushies and BBH Magic alls that are a bit big for X at the moment. We also only have about 1.5 days worth at the moment but I am in Qld and they are getting mostly dry even on overcast days. We are drying them on a drying rack and putting the rack in any bit of sun we can find or just out on the front verandah then putting them in the dryer for up to 30 mins in the evenings if they need it.
Smamfa - I can't believe the baby talk that is coming out of my mouth. Little X is not going to have the best vocabulary in the world if I continue as I am - hee hee.
We had X weighed today and she is now 4640g and 55cm long- wooweee. Also, the lactation consultant thinks that maybe I don't have an oversupply after all but just a really really strong let down which means my breasts are constantly semi emptying from the letdown and that's why I am constantly producing so much milk. Also - I have some blocked ducts in the breast that had the mastitis so have booked for an appointment with the remedial massage therapist to have these worked on. Apparently I will only need one session and they will be gone and this will reduce my chances of the mastitis coming back. So I am all for that, I really don't want mastitis again. The only thing I am worried about is that I thought that boob was getting "better" as far as not being as leaky etc etc. The lactation consultant said that it is probably producing less because of the blocked ducts. This bf is so much harder than I ever realised it was going to be!!!
Also........how can we get our avvies updated? The preggie belly just doesn't suit me anymore ;)
Starangelk, we are using Rumparoos, BumGenius, Cushie Tushies & BBH Magic Alls at the moment. Unforunately we don't have a drier, so letting them drip dry is our only option. Come on sun! Make a come back!! What are pre-folds? We have had some leaks with the Magic Alls, but DP loves them because he "can't be bothered putting in the inserts" Meanwhile I am the one that does them during the day!!! I have found that the BumGenius ones fit her best, and also dry the quickest, so I am hoping to get some more of these , even though they are pocket nappies. I was going to go on the internet and look up some other kinds and get some sent to us so we can increase our supply as well as try some other ones out. Our local baby shop (still 30 mins away!) has only got the ones I have listed plus the Pea Pods. Does anyone recommend any? Lily is at least 56cm long (birth length) and is weighing 5.35kg (weighed yesterday).
I think I need to go to a LC too. My milk seems to have dried up in the last 2 days. I am wondering if it is because I have been wearing maternity singlets to bed, and they are tight on my boobs. I don't usually wear one to bed, but I wake up in a pool of breastmilk usually, and put one on in the early morning the other day with a pad and went back to bed and it caught it all, so I thought I would do it every night.. but now I am worried that it is restricting the milk production or something. Speaking of which, does any one know of any brands of breastfeeding singlets that are made for larger cups? I am a 14E, and the best I can find is a 16D or 16DD if I am really lucky.
Tubbles -
Prefolds are the tri-fold with extra padding in the middle one basically. I haven't used them, but they wouldn't be any use here the way Elijah wee's lol he'd need a change every hour!
Re: the inserts and DH, just put them in when you finished washing them. That's what I do :)
I have a great reccomendation! We use Lushies almost all the time! They are a fitted bamboo velour birth - 6 months nappy from Sustainable Hemp Products and are so gorgeous and scrummy! I use either longies or a PUL cover over the top. Also small sewn in ittis (the snap in's give up gaps) and small petites. If your baby isn't a heavy wetter, small bubblebubs would be awesome too, especially for DH as they are velcro and are the easiest to use IMO.
Regarding your milk, I doubt it's dried up ;) Once your feeding has settled and your milk isn't in oversupply, your breasts shouldn't feel hard or anything anymore.Mine feel completely normal, how they were pre breastfeeding. The only time they feel harder/bigger is when I miss a feed on one side (forget which one I fed from last) but the rest of the time nothing out of the ordinary happening there! Is there a reason you want a BF'ing singlet? I just use a normal singlet and pull it down with the bra. When I am out, top goes up, bra and singlet go down and I am showing nothing. I am the same size as you and haven't seen any around though I am sure you could get them somewhere.
Sarah did you look at the sustainable hemp products site? I got their breastpads yesterday and they are so lush!! And they are BIG. I was happily surprised by how much bigger they are in diameter compared to disposable ones.
Another good night nappy is either Lushies or Cute Tooshies :) I used the CT for Ashton successfully until he was 6-7 months, and Elijah is in the lushies at night :) I did get a BBH night nappy for Ashton which arrived yesterday, he wore it last night with only one prewash and it was wonderful, completely dry on the outside of the nappy in the morning and that boy can pee!!
I'd never heard of a Wonder Week before but I am off to check that out! I sure know E has been more cranky this week than normal and he is 5 weeks old today! It's been a rough 2 days here, I am totally exhausted today after 2 bad nights :(
SAK sorry that BF'ing is a tough road for you, hopefully once everything settles down you'll have no more problems! It is still early days. And WOOO HOOOO on the weight gain! Elijah is due his 4 weeks check up... and he's 5 weeks today... whoops! Re: avatars, just check out this thread https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...atar-faqs.html
I emailed yesterday actually lol :)
Hey Missymoo - did you use a cover with your BBH night nappy? I am not sure if I am supposed to be....and thanks for the avvie help :) Going to email them right now.
Tubbles - I am still learning about the MCN's so can't recommend any sorry but I am super happy with all of ours so far if that helps. We are finding the prefolds awesome and have no leaks but they are super wet and heavy. Maybe X doesn't do alot of wees tho!
Okay, I'm now FB friends with Tubbles and have sent Friend Suggestions to everyone (I hope...if I've missed anyone, let me know).
BTW, I'm enjoying all the bubba photos, nawwwww....
BBH night nappies - yep, youre meant to use a cover. I had to ask them when I got one.
 who else is guilty of using fitteds & forgetting to put a cover on them... until it's too late...
Thanks Entreat - I have been using a cover but I was confused because they are exactly like the minky petites which don't need one. DH forgot to use a cover on our thirsties once........omg mess.
Tubbles - I got Seph's friend suggestion and added you :)
How is everyone's tummy's looking? Mine is still very jelly belly and my line is looking worse now because my belly is smaller. ALso, I used to have a very innie and early in my preg it popped out and now hasn't gone back. Would love to hear about everyone else or if you already have a flat tummy back just say "no comment" ;)
Hehe, I can't say "no comment." Whilst I've lost the kilos since giving birth, I still have a jelly belly which isn't so bad, but I won't be happy if it's still here in 6 months. The stretch marks are also not attractive - because my belly has shrunk, the stretch marks have sort of "lengthened" and some of them look disturbing. But I'm not particularly fussed by them, given the work my body had to do to bring A into the world.
I'm not quite fitting into my pre-pregnancy jeans without using the bellybelt on the tightest setting. The jelly belly is a muffin-top still. I don't know what work I'll have to do to get rid of it, I'm just hoping that bfing will reduce it's size and then I'll try and tone it up once I can be bothered.
Oh, and no matter what, DON'T do sit-ups until your Ob/MW/MCHN gives the all-clear. If anyone has any muscle separation from the pregnancy (mine was only 1cm luckily), sit-ups will make this worse. The physio at the hospy told us that sit-ups can further separate the muscles when what you want them to do is knit back together. We also should be rolling over onto our sides and sitting up rather than sitting straight up from lying on our backs, for the same reason.
saggy & floppy. But it was kind of like that before (I'm a size 18...). It's just a whole lot squishier now because my abs are shot. I poke it & think, 'surely it wasn't like this before...'.
As I'm sure you'll see on FB, we had a friend come around with his 3 daughters (10, 8 & 7yo) earlier. MIL took them around to the shop for an icecream, and a woman pulled up to them in a car (her kids go to the same school), and asked the girls how their spots were going, and if they were still sick. Yes, one of them has spots, but the other two don't, reply the girls.
MIL comes home & tells me, and I am less than impressed, so I go out the back & ask their dad if the girls have chicken pox, to which he says, "oh, I know nothing about it.. but one of them has some spots, but we asked a friend about it this morning & they didn't know what it was either".
Then after they'd gone, MIL tells me the girls said to her, "but don't tell Tomo (my DH), because he's not meant to know" :o WTF???
So they know it's a rash of some sort, and their friend (unlikely to be a doctor...) doesn't know what it is either. And then they tell the girls not to tell us. Then he SMS'ed us to ask if he could come around with the girls - obviously failing to mention the mystery rash.
OK, so I may be a bit of a panicked first time mum, but surely it's my choice to expose my unvaccinated 3week old infant to mystery diseases! Otherwise, I'm quite realistic about germs, etc, outside the home (and inside) - but I don't want to have the choice taken away from me, and I'd prefer to not have them knowingly brought in to my home at this stage. :(
But Jack's a good strong kid, & the girls didn't go near him (he was sleeping), so I can't see him catching whatever the girls had.
SAK I use woolies on the BBH night :) Though we used it last night and it was dry on the outside which was awesome! I know others say they don't even use a cover but I've seen Ash pee out of some AI2 nights! No way I am going without a cover!
Jen hun, I wouldn't be happy either with the spots. A runny nose fine, virus fine, spots no and a chest infection also no. The reason for me and the chest infection is that adults can have whooping cough with almost no symptoms or what seems like a cough, but give it to a baby and they can die. Other yucky germs are fine, good immunity building and as a general rule a BF bubba wont get a viral illness.
Elijah is absolutely huge. I swear he is getting massive!! Need to get him checked over again on Monday at the open clinic but I would say he's over 5kg now. He's into the 000 clothes now!! (just) hehe which is awesome cos that's what all the cute little sets were :P He's feeding like a champ, had a couple of fussy days so I am really exhausted today. About to put all the kids to bed then go sit on my bed and fold washing while I watch telly. Yay for Thursdays... it's GLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! LOL
I don't know if anyone saw my photo of Elijah in the BBH? I'll link it... Mel Abbott's Photos | Facebook
They asked if they could use it on their website!! Hehe proud mummy boasting moment!
Well that's about all from me!
Hiya Mummys!
Is it bad that DD is my second child and I STILL have trouble remembering that I am a mummy and a responsible ( ) adult??
Entreat - AWESOME photos! How fantastic that you have such a great record of Jack's birth! You seem to be doing an awesome job with your MIL in the middle of new baby madness! Just read your latest and since you are breastfeeding I'm sure that Jack will be fine. :crossfingers:
Cloth nappies! My DS is still in his so.. ooops... I had to buy all new ones for DD! We are using a combination of Bumgenius, Haute Pockets and Greenkids for DS, but I decided to just go with Bumgenius after finding a way to buy them direct from the US heaps cheaper than from the Oz distributors. The Haute Pockets used to be great, very trim, but have started to leak a bit as they get older. Sad that the colours arn't really there on Bumgenius and enjoying using a few of DSs old sized nappies like Bubblebuds and Itti bittis to spice things up.
My pre baby body was at least 5kg heavier than it should have been anyway and I still have an additional 5kg to get back to that... sigh!! :wall: I am SO sick of thinking about my weight and it really depresses me that I have the type of figure that if I want to remain at the weight I look best at, then I am going to spend the rest of my life exercising and denying myself cake. :shakehead: I got out of this pregnancy with only a couple of small stretchmarks on the bottom to join the couple on the side from DS, but the jelly belly seems to be a little worse this time and I think it could be here to stay! No muscle separation according to my physio and my pelvic floor is coming on much better this time thanks to no vacume!
BF is going well, I think it is my trade off from being lousy at being pregnant (sick, GD, heartburn etc!) is that my body is good at this (either that or I am being rewarded for lugging round DDs for all those years when their only use was.... C feeds a LOT so I am really having to watch that I am drinking enough and keeping up the Fenugreek otherwise I notice that my supply gets a bit low at night.
She is putting on weight and starting to get a personality which is cute (and a bit firey, WOW you do not want to be a second slow with getting the booby out!) Waiting till next week for a weigh and measure as that will be 6 weeks so will be good to be able to compare to DS at the same point. My child health nurse is very weird, but I dont have much contact with her, so that doesn't really worry me that much!
Will try to catch up more for more personals as I am definetly getting left behind a bit! I keep reading, but never seem to get a chance to post!
xoxo
Feu
starangelk - "No comment"..... NOT! We're flab-tastic over here! Stupid little pot-tummy... I am so looking forward to bootcamping myself when i get the ok from the Ob in 3 weeks or so!
Hey, I wouldn't worry about the babytalk either :D I am a big fan of it actually - with ds1 I did HEAPS of babytalk, (I used the correct words for everything as well, but i used to play around with the language all the time too), and his language and vocab is absolutely amazing (hmm, i am probably not meant to say that about my own child!)
entreat: O.O I can't believe how thoughtless your friend was to bring possibly-contagious children into a house with a newborn, that is really just not on.
seph - re: the separation thing, I have a HUGE separation, although i seem to recall it closing up quite quickly last time so hopefully that will be the case again.
Hey, do you think I am good to use the wii fit before my check-up? I haven't been doing any exercise apart from a few walks (and carrying around ds1), and it would be good to get the wheels turning slowly anyway...
I got quite a jellybelly too. Can't really remember how big it was before the pregnancy though, but I am apparently about a kilo lighter than before I fell preggers which I am pretty stoked about (still need to lose 10kg to be my ideal weight).. but my tummy doesn't look like it.. and I don't think I'll be rushing into a bikini any time soon.. my stretch marks are hideous! :(
Should I just look up Sustainable Hemp to find this website? Lily is a big wetter too. I have to have all the boosters in on the nappies to be able to change her every 3 hrs.
AHaha, yeh I do put them together when I get them in off the line, that is why I can't understand what he is whinging about :P
OMG! I can't believe they would do that to you. Anyone with half a brain would know you don't see a newborn when you have any form of unknown illness or ailment!! Including rashes!!! GRR! Hope they at least let you know what it was when they find out, just in case.
smamfa: not sure about the wii fit, I hop on mine to check my weight and stuff, but haven't really done too many exercises or anything on it.. I was told that you need to exercise your core strength to get your tummy back, but not actually do tummy exercises like sit ups. I would say its better to wait to get the all clear. That's my excuse anyways :P
Yeah hun just put in Google "Sustainable Hemp Products"
Michelle who runs it is lovely to deal with!
Looks good. I will have to look at getting some after my next order arrives. Chris might have a heart attack if a there are too many new nappies turning up at once :P
Also, I forgot to mention the breastfeeding singlet saga. I want to get one so that I can wear it under shirts. I don't have any singlets I can bring down under my boobs without taking my arm out of it.. I would prefer these, do you know any where that sells shirts like this? I actually have found one in the last few days at Kmart, but there was only one and it was on sale because they aren't selling them any more :wall:
My bf singlets are from La Leche League, which I bought through Mothers Direct I think. I'll find the link and bbl - mine are really good, and I'm a 12E or F cup. Will let you know where to get them...
Sorry, I bought them through Zodee: http://www.zodee.com.au/womens/la-leche-league-international/shelf-support/4200/
Hope that helps.
*sigh*
Tough day for me today. Jack has been screaming and screaming from wind pain today. The poor little guy. I wish I could take away his pain. And foolish me - I'm starting to take his screaming sessions personally. :(
I know he'll get better, but today I am really struggling. I'm sure it's nothing I'm doing, but that doesn't take away any sense of responsibility I feel.
aww hugs hunni. Does he get it often? Do you notice it's after you've eaten certain things? I can't have much chocolate, any yogurt or any curry :( He also reacts if I drink too much milk so I try and stick to one glass a day ... (we usually go through 3ltrs in 1-2 days here)
We had a bad night the other night too, I had curry and Elijah didn't like that. Screamed till 3.30am when he finally crashed out and he was farting the next day flat out. Poor little mite.
Yeah - he farts like a champion bean eater... But I think he may have a little tummy upset. His poop looks a bit different today.. more mucus in some, and others look a bit watery. And he's also feeding more frequently (2-3 hours instead of 4 hours).
I gave him a really good calm feed an hour ago, and stayed in bed with him for a bit, before putting him down in his cot. He's still in the same position & sleeping soundly. So I'm taking advantage - going to bed as well. Xx Thanks for hugs. :)
:hello:Morning everyone
Entreat - poor little Jack. Hope he is starting to feel a bit better. Make sure you get lots of rest too if possible, no point having a tired baby and a tired mummy. And OMG about bringing contagious children to your house. I would have been furious!
MissyMoo - interesting about the curry. Originally I was going to not eat certain foods to try and eliminate upsetting X but then I read this book that said to eat anything and see if it effects her. So far so good but I must admit I haven't eaten a really spicy curry yet.
Tubbles - hearing about your nappy purchases makes me want to buy more!! I already have a wishlist - hahahhaha.
Smamfa - wii-fit? You are keen! :) Can you send some of your looking forward to exercise vibes over here please? I have been walking to and from the office (less than a km) on a daily basis but at the end of the day I am exhausted. I have no idea how I am going to ramp up the exercise to get rid of my jelly belly.
Hi to Feu and Seph :hello:
Well, you girls are going to think this is crazy but on Tuesday I am having remedial massage.......on my breasts! The lactation consultant recommended it because I still have lumps on the side that had mastitis and it is producing less milk. It isn't bothering me as X drains the lumps at each feed (I am still doing one sided feeding) and I have heaps of milk anyway so no big deal. Anyways, it will sure be interesting! She also suggested I take sage and drink peppermint tea to help reduce my supply. I am holding off on doing this.........having heaps of milk is a problem to me but would be welcomed by others and I am scared to purposely reduce my supply in case it goes the other way. She promised me it won't dry up my milk but I am still scared. What do you guys think?
perspective... as I drifted off last night, I thought about all the good things I have to be happy about with Jack.
Yesterday morning, he smiled at me for the first time - with out farting afterwards - so it couldn't have been gas. And it was a really big smile too. :)
And he's a good sleeper. Sure, he may have been crying on & off from noon until 5pm yesterday, and the screams may have been the worst I've heard - he still sleeps well at night. Last night he did 4 hour feeds. Can't complain about that!!
Linked to the sleeping is his awake time. It's during day light hours, and it's so darn cute. He's obsessed with DH's hats that sit on the back of the couch. They're black & white, and captivate more than any toys we could offer him.
But I want to take him to the doctor as he looks like he has bloody mucus in his poo. But can I find a number for a pediatrician in Kalgoorlie?? of course not. And I can't really take him to the ED because he's otherwise not sick & they probably won't do anything. So I'm going to hunt through the local phone books for a ped's number. Surely we have one in town!
ETA: his poo is returning to normal now... he's otherwise not unwell in the slightest, so I'll ask the nurse tomorrow. And more smiles from him this morning. :D
MissyMoo - Mum has been cautioning me to stay away from chocolate, garlic and onions. I haven't had anything really spicy... oh hang on... I made relish, didn't I?! No more of that then...
Smamfa - I want to get on the wii fit too (hulahoops can't be bad, can they??), but I just lose the energy for it. One day... ;)
SAK - I can't see your milk drying up because you still have demand. But if you see supply dropping too fast, just stop the tea & let you baby sort it out. And I love the idea of a boob massage! but would prefer a foot massage. ;)
entreat - at your 'poo update' reason for editing!! If you haven't got a good ped where you are can you find a good gp who is experienced with infants? You would need a referral to go to the ped anyway, so would have to see a gp first regardless i believe. (Doesn't sound like you need it now, but if you need it further down the track.) Your comment about 'responsibility' i think sums up the difference in mind-games i find between my 2nd child and my first - with my first I was very much 'what am i doing wrong' when ds wouldn't stop crying... whereas with this one i am putting the blame much more on external factors 'he has a pain', 'he has a gurgly tummy' etc... and YAY for some lovely smiles! :D
starangelk - haha, my mind is keen for exercise, but i don't know how my body will actually cope! i was exhausted after shopping the other day.
Interesting that everyone was talking about food/wind etc last night... i have been pondering the same sorts of things - bubba seems to get whingy over digestive issues a lot - he is a top-farter as well, and you can definitely see him get a pain when his tummy is bothering him (fairly frequently), after he has let loose a big squelch he often relaxes and then goes to sleep. I have been wondering about those old wives tales of foods to avoid too... it is not like i have been eating anything particularly spicy, but some rich foods i guess - i had chocolate and lasagne yesterday :shakehead: i am going to eat healthy bland foods for the next few days and see if it makes a difference.
Bubba's eyes are still blue... at what age do they start to change if they are going to change does anyone know?
Smamfa - when we saw the ped in the hosp he said that their eyes can change up to 12 months old! X has gorgeous blue ones right now and I am hoping they stay that way.
Entreat - thanks for your thoughts about the milk supply - I'm going to wait until after the boob massage and then see what the supply is like. I'll let you know how it compares to a foot massage ;)
normally eyes change in the first 6 months. Darker colours tend to be first. Ash was blue until 2 months then turned brown. My sisters were blue and turned green at 6years old! My niece has hazel eyes, they changed recently, she's 1 now. They were green.
Speaking of homeopathic remedies, have you tried the Brauer Stomach Calm? It has really helped when C sometimes gets a bit of a tummy ache and seems to have slowed down the spewing too! Hang in there! Things are sure to get much better soon. Once they are over the 1st 6 - 8 weeks they seem to be able to work out their wind much better!
Hugs Feu
DS eys where SO blue until a couple of months ago (he is over 2) and now have gone green much to my saddness! They were amazing and although it is a nice green it is not as speccy! DDs eyes are brown already, but we expected that as her hair is so dark.
On food, I switched to lactose free milk on a naturopaths advice and either that or the Brauer or both seems to have had a good effect on DDs digestive issues. She is really a very amiable baby, but BOY does she get ****ed fast if her world is not right! Doesn't cry much but does these little shrill screams till we do what she wants (usually booby or a cuddle!).
Smamfa - I'm getting tired just thinking of exercise! My DH keeps reminding me that I asked him to get me exercising after 6 weeks and I keep telling him to sod off, but he is right... Have to get some fitness back to keep up with 2 munchkins! I asked him the other day if he thought we had gone a bit overboard in the kid department, but he assured me that I wanted 2! LOL
Cheers Feu. I was using the Colic relief, but as that and the chutney are the only two things I've been doing differently lately, I assume the issue was either A) brief infection/tummy bug B) the chutney, or C) the Brauer Colic stuff. I'll be waiting until Jack is really settled, then I'll try him on the Brauer stuff again if he needs it. If it causes the same reaction, I'll be very displeased. :(
He's been sleeping since I fed him at 11:30... 3.5 hours now. :) Sometimes he squarks in his sleep, and we roll him over, he farts (or worse! :p), and then relaxes.
I found this page: Ask Anne For Answers To Your Breastfeeding Questions
It's an interesting article on how long it takes for food to get into your milk, and the old wives tales.
I think Jack takes in more air when he's crying (and I'm sure , but I also threw out one of his dummys because he was sucking so much air with it. He now uses an Avent dummy & it's a much better shape sucker & plastic bits (aren't I technical with words...).
Wow, can you imagine if it was your job to give boobs "remedial" massages? I gotta tell DP about this, he is going to want a career change! lol. I would be scared that my milk supply would go too far the opposite way too. I was going to start taking fenugreek cos I thought my supply was going, but with my leakage yesterday, I don't think there is a problem any more hehe.
Sorry, I am already looking at what else I can buy next time too. All this talk of MCNs and what other people had made me want to try more! hehe
Yeh, I am hopefully going to start exercising by week 6, but at the moment with my motivation, I don't think it'll start for a while (I'll say til the weather gets better for now.. and then might say when it gets cooler when it does get better :p)
I think you can also have brown eyes that go hazel later in life. Mine were brown growing up but have now gone a hazel colour in my teens. Another friend of mine had her eyes go from brown to hazel when she was about 10 or so, and have now turned green (in her mid 20s)
Lily has eyes the colour of the ocean.. out to sea colour. Hoping it stays a light colour. I hope they don't go brown, but DP wants them to be brown because he has light eyes.. grass is always greener!
Thanks for that website, it was a good read, and made me feel better about not altering my diet (too much)
Just a quick one from me :) Just got back from Elijah's 5 week check (he missed his 4 weeks one) and he is now 4.8kg and 54cm long. Naawwww still so little for me haha
He was perfect, all smiley and cooperative!
Missymoo - Yay for Elijah's great check-up!
Wow, i can't believe i have potentially SO LONG to wait and find out what colour Z's eyes are going to be! We are expecting them to be brown, but ds1 had brown eyes right from the start so it feels really different to see a blue-eyed baby.
thanks for that article entreat, i have been drinking a LOT of milk recently, so i might cut that back a bit.
Similar to what Feu was saying about the wind issues - 6-8 weeks is also the PEAK crying time for babies... so if anyone's bubba is getting especially fussy around now, in a couple of weeks you will be on the downhill slide. I remember with ds1 at around 6-7 weeks he used to be majorly unsettled for hours. We wondered if he had reflux, but it all improved a week or two later.
so there is an end in sight?? ;) i was almost seeing Jack as a crying, colic ridden 16yo... :o
I have come to the conclusion that Jack doesn't so much have colic, but rather gets so over tired, he can't cope. Throw in an increased appetite (he emptied me last night & I have to get a bottle of EBM from the freezer!!) - no wonder the kid has been crying. I'm glad the MIL has gone home because now I'm not getting conflicting advice that opposes my instincts. This morning had potential to go the same way as yesterday, but I recognised his tired signs better today & got away with no screaming. :D He should have a good sleep now. The poor little critter wakes up tired some times, but gets all confused & tries to stay awake after his feed... then we head towards a meltdown. He still gets burps stuck some times, and that is probably a large contributing factor to him not going to sleep (uncomfortable). We have about 4 different potions on the go for treating it (gripe water, Infant's Friend, Infacol, and some homeopathic pills) - Not all at once though! ;)
I also found out today that a girlfriend on facebook lost her baby daughter at 21weeks pregnancy, only 12 days ago. I'm so sad for her - she's such a lovely person, & deserves a strong & happy family. I changed my profile pic on FB back to my wedding one as I'm sure it would be incredibly insensitive to leave Jack's chubby face there when she's in so much pain. :( It may sound selfish, but it makes me cherish Jack even more.
Sorry for hogging the posts... I'm suffering a bit of isolation due to not being coordinated enough to leave the house. The closest I got yesterday was backing the car out of the garage!
Cuddles to all & their bubs. Xx
