Naomi - I have been trying to figure out what it reminds me of when you say YUMMO either on here or facebook and have just worked it out - recently I listened to an audio book called Seven Little Australians (is a kids book I think) and they said YUMMO in that all the time! Loved the FB pics of the playcentre.
Amy - I think is a phase, week before last CJ was quite like that, she is so easy going that sometimes I don't notice things immediately as her acting up isn't very severe, but there was a definite shift for a couple of weeks which she seems to be over now - so I am sure it will pass.

Kyson cries whenever I walk away from him. He was even sitting on Daddy's lap tonight playing happily, then I walked past the two of them to put something in the laundry and Kyson just started wailing! Even when I go to get his food ready I have to pop him somewhere and wait until he's not looking at me, then try to sneak away. I'm still in eyesight, but he prefers me to be within grabbing distance.
We've been having some more difficult nights here than usual. Usually Kyson doesn't take to long to fall asleep (with me holding him and bouncing on the fitball), but the last few nights (except tonight) it has taken ages and ages. And then I get him down and he wakes after one cycle and I need to resettle him. Then after that he's been generally unsettled for the next few hours. He's also been a bit unsettled during the wee morning hours, but I'm been so sleepy that it's like I'm resettling him on auto-pilot (which is almost a blessing, lol). I still don't think he's the worst sleeper in the world, but with us thinking about baby number 2 I've been thinking about his sleeping a bit more. At first it didn't worry me because I figured that even if I got pregnant tomorrow (don't worry, it's not going to be that soon!) then I would have 9 months for him to become a better sleeper naturally. Nine months is more than double how long he's been earthside so far, so I know a lot can change. But then DH was saying that things might be very taxing on my body during pregnancy as well. Soooo, I just booked us both in to Pinky McKay's sleep seminar on Feb 10th. She was one of the speakers at our birth class and we thought she was pretty good, and I like her thoughts and approach to baby sleep, so I'm really looking forward to it. Plus, babies are welcome so I don't have to leave Kyson (which I still haven't gotten up the nerve to do yet!).
Oh, you've probably noticed that my user name has changed :) Hope you all like the new one. I'll give it a couple of weeks, then remove the "aka" and then I can spill the beans about what's coming up soon. Don't worry, it's nothing bad, just something I don't want some people to know about.
I can't wait for Seaworld!!! Cathy are you bringing Cara as well as Laura? I can't wait to meet you and to see Bella and Jemima again. I definitely want to get a photo like Bailey. Nay, did you take your pram with you? I figure a pram would be good for Seaworld. I'm also going to take Kyson to WhiteWater World, and was not sure about taking the pram and then leaving it alone while we are in the water, but then I guess that even if I was just carrying his bag I would still have to leave the bag somewhere unattended. I think the pram is just much easier to take all our stuff in, plus it gives Kyson somewhere to nap. Ok, I think I've convinced myself that the pram is essential at both Seaworld and WhiteWater World. Ooooh, I hope the polar bears are being active! I went once with DH and we watched then play for almost 2 hours they were so mesmerising! The next time when we had the DSS's there we hardly even glimpsed them, lol.
Nicky, LOVE the new username! I hope your FIL gets better soon. My best friend got shingles near her middle ear and it caused Bells Palsy. It never completely went away and you can see that one side of her face doesn't respond as well as the other (eg. when she smiles one eye is slightly wider than the other). Hopefully no one catches it at your house, but at least if they do you will no that there is almost no possibility that they will ever get it again. It's meant to be much milder as a child. Oh, and Allira probably is still protected by your antibodies if you've had it before :)
Nay - Shingles is caused by the same virus as chickenpox. You can only get shingles if you have had chickenpox before, because the virus that gave you chickenpox lies dormant in nerve cells and can reactivate and become shingles. If you haven't had chickenpox and come into contact with someone with shingles, you can catch chickenpox, but not shingles.

oo I was thinking we had a new recruit!!
Nice name change Krystie! I'm intrigued. I have some ideas floating around my head though... ooo exciting! haha
Yeah my name change isn't much. Couldn't think of anything better, so just decided to whack a few more letters in.
I've had the pox before as a child, so I'm not worried about myself, or hubs at all. I'm not really worried about Allira or Lachie getting it either. I worry about everyone else.
The kids were meant to have their first swimming lesson back this Sunday, but looks like we'll have to postpone. :( I really wanted to see Allira at her first lesson. There's always next week, but Lachie is dying to get back into it. I wish we would know for sure that they would not get CP. They could possibly go... but we'd be cutting it fine and I have no idea if any of the other kiddies are immuno compromised. I would never want to give it to someone else who could suffer alot more than we would. Ah well.

hi ladies
no persies - not up to it. feeling frankly crap!
went to opto for E. she is going to paed opthamologist in May. turn in her eye i knew, long sighted i suspected - am devastated that she has astigmatisms. the astigmatisms are the thing i didn't want her to inherit from me. the other stuff, if we can afford it, can be fixed with laser surgery when she's older (the turn, hopefully, with patching) - the astigmatisms i think are with her for life. dammit! i feel crap crap crap
she only had a 15 minute cat nap this arvo, and a brief nap tonight while we were out. two mammoth dirty nappies (she hadn't been for a few days!) and a lot of screaming and feeding (but not attaching properly cos she was upset) - i'm sore, headachey, tired and just miserable. it's not fair
oh, and to make things worse - DH will probably never drive a truck again. his eyes have deteriorated to the point he can legally drive a car (small trucks maybe) - but not a truck. that's all he's ever done. so now he has to look at re-training while he waits to go blind and qualify for a corneal transplant
it's just been a shiat day all round!

Big hugs BG. I'm sorry you've had such a bad day. I can only imagine how you are feeling :hug:

I was thinking about the babies and wondering if they are about to go through that stage where they get shy and clingy? I think that is normally around 9mths? Or am I wrong. I know all my babies got a bit shy around strangers at this age. I notice lately that Cara gets a bit shy at times and puts her head down...so cute.
Krystie: Yep! We will both be there. I don't go ANYWHERE (well except the dentist) without my little velcro baby hehe. I have never spent more than an hour or two away from any of my babies...probably because I have never had Grandparents that lived close. Even took them to the cinema with me a few times hehe. Might have to do that when that Baby movie comes out in April! :)
Laura has never been to Seaworld, so she's (hopefully) gonna love it. She is a little concerned about sharks lol. I told her they are behind glass though and quite safe. And Krystie..that is exciting to be planning for baby no 2 soon!
Naomi: I definitley will get a SS photo!!! Can't wait! (not sure Laura will want one though...she doesn't like Santa lol...she posed with Dora though). She's not a huge Sesame St fan..prefers Mickey Mouse clubhouse. I bet Cara won't smile as gorgeous as Bailey does every time! What a happy little guy he is. His smile is just precious!
Niadalla: Hope Allira does not get shingles/chicken pox. Better to get it younger than older...though ofcourse you'd rather a baby didn't get it! I had it at 19 and it was EVERYWHERE..even in my mouth and scalp! Yassie and Ronan got the chicken pox vacinne at age 1, but I don't think it was very effective. They still got it (when I was pregnant with Laura!)....but maybe their dose was small compared to what it could have been.
BG: I'm so sorry to hear about the eye appt bringing bad news. *Hugs* I hope you get a good rest tonight, you deserve it after a crap day.
Vic: I remember seeing or reading the Seven Little Australians years ago. It had a sad bit in it I remember.
Has anyone seen the movie "Up"? I thought that movie would just be funny...i burst into tears watching it...several moments in that movie made me teary.
Amy: Totally get that you would want to keep seeing the child health nurse..definitely good when you have an issue (they helped me when Cara's belly button was a bit moist still...told me to use the cotton wool buds..cleared right up!). Much easier than a Dr..I agree. Weigh ins are good too and to see the percentiles etc.....nice to be able to fill out the baby book.
Cara says "Bubba" now. She is up on all fours a lot and even tries to climb up/out of the kiddy sofa hehe. She never sits still now...often on her belly, rolling around etc
Finally!! I changed my ticker!!!!

i've taken the recommendation from Bridg as to what paed opthamologist to see - i maybe could have gotten in somewhere else sooner, but i'd rather go with someone that is recommended to me, especially as the referring opto was enthusiastic when i mentioned the name
-
Nicky, I wouldn't not take them to swimming lessons on the odd chance that they might catch the chickenpox. It takes about 2 weeks to incubate so you wouldn't know for another 2 weeks if they even get it. Even then, it's contagious about 2 days before the rash/spots appear, so no one can really get cranky if it turns out they get it and have been around other people. Most people would have no idea that their kids are even contagious until after they may have infected others.
-
hmm... I get that. I just don't know. They were exposed yesterday adn there's really not any way they could have caught it. They have to have touched the blisters and then stuck the fluid in their mouths or rubbed their eyes. FIL is not the kind of bloke who kisses the kids and he was in pain anyway, so I'm pretty sure he would have kept Lachie away from his face (where the blisters were). I'm just unsure if say Lachie got some of the fluid on his hands, could he transfer that onto someone else within a certain time frame? Like, how long is the virus active in the air? If it dies at all or you need to wash it away to get it off.
I'm pretty confident they will be fine, and Sunday will only be 4 days since they were in contact... hmm... I think I'd feel pretty naughty though. like I was breaking an unwritten law. haha

BG - So sorry to hear that it wasn't good news about E's eyes :( Don't beat yourself up about it, it's not like you purposely gave it to her. And it's encouraging that things can be treated with laser surgery. I thought I'd read that even astigmatism can be cured with laser? I'm sure you know much more about it than me though. Gosh and then to get a double whammy finding out about C's eyes too :( Huge hugs for you sweetheart. I wish that he could go on the transplant list right now. It's bad that he has to wait until he goes legally blind first, but I guess that the corneas don't grow on trees. I don't even know what I can say that is helpful, but please know that we are all here for you
Cathy - Oh yay! So glad Cara is coming too! I haven't left Kyson for more than an hour or so either ;)
Oh and I watched "Up" recently with Kyson and the DSS's and I bawled twice in it. Right at the start, and then later on with the book. I've always been quick to cry in movies, but OMG, since having Kyson I'm a big blubber ball!!! Everything sets me off. I sometimes watch those shows on foxtel where people have babies, and I cry every time a baby is born! I got a little cranky during one today though when the woman was undergoing an amnio 2 weeks before her due date to find out if the baby's lungs were developed enough so that she could have her planned c-section the next day instead of waiting until the due date because the baby was big and she was uncomfortable! What the?! Who compromises the health of their baby because they are "uncomfortable"?! Crazy! When she found out the baby's lungs weren't developed enough I laughed at her, lol!

Oh BG!!!! Honey that it terrible!!! I'll be thinking about you darling, it must be terribly hard on both of you right now!
Amy- Honey we r having a horrid time of it at the moment too. She is sooo clingy ATM. If she is distracted for a moment I don't let her see me cos as soon as she does she just has to have me right then!!! Today I left the front door open as we were bringing in some furniture and she refused to be in her pen or high chair on pain of screaming!! Anyway as we came in moving the desk here she was crawling out the front door down the step!! OMG she is so fast! Anyway I think it is kinda cute but it makes moving hard! She has to be with me whilst I do anything and if she gets bored so be it I have to stop.
Nicky- If I were u I would be glad if your kids get chicken pox now. If they get it as little kids they are fine and they have a few spots. If they don't get it till they are adults they can die from it. Also remember that the chicken pox vaccine has to be kept given for the rest of their lives. It is the only one of the vaccinations I wont be giving Jemima. I want her to get it young. My sister says they have CP parties where she is at and put kids with it near kids who haven't got it just in the hope that they will get it young.
Cathy- you know I write in my own book!!! Every time I have weighed or measured her I just write it in the section for growth!! HAhahahaha totally irreverent! I don't know maybe it is cos I am a nurse. Besides it is my book! I will keep it for the rest of her life and so I will put in it what I like to keep track..hehehe
AFM- Well J has oral thrush I think. She is miserable and sleeping 20-30mins max during the day as opposed to the 1 1/2 hrs she was doing 2 times a day last week! I am going nuts. I should go to bed cos she is still waking me at 5.30 in the morning but it is the only time in my day that I have to myself. Oh well. DH got some nilstat from work and I hope it will clear up soon. may still try to get into gp tommorrow as she is losing her voice from it I think and whilst I think everything is ok I would prefer to check. ok i am yawning my head off so I am gonna go. Love you all
Bella

Nicky - Apparently it can take up to 21 days to show any symptoms if they catch it, and I figure you can't put your life on hold for almost a month... But then I guess I might just feel that way because of my opinion towards ds catching chickenpox (I'd prefer him to catch it young and develop natural immunity than to catch it when he's older). I wouldn't purposely put him in a situation where I know he is definitely being exposed to the virus, but I wouldn't get angry if he got it from another kid that didn't have any symptoms yet.
-
Everyone keeps posting while I am sloooooowly doing my posts, lol!
Bella, we haven't vacc'd Kyson for chickenpox either, and don't intend to. If he's going to catch it I'd prefer him to be young too, and then have (hopefully) lifelong natural immunity.
We have an appointment in march with a dr that has done lots and lots of study into vaccines and specialises with kids that have a higher risk of being on the autistic spectrum (like Kyson), so we are asking about vaccines at the appointment.
With these little clingy veclro babies I'm guessing that we won't be playing "musical babies" at Seaworld, lol. No baby swapping ;)
-
you never knwo hun - the velcro babies may cling to each other and not worry about you mummy's at all!
-
Chatty bunch today hey ladies ;)
Super quick post as I know I should get to bed but like you Bella I have turned into a bag of nuts and also find that this is MY only time of the day to myself
I love this little guy so much but sometimes being mum drives me crazy.
Aaron is still going to bed at 11ish even when I keep him awake at 8am from his first feed....who knows?!?!?!
Anyway took him for his 3rd head u/s yesterday and it looks like the results are much the same as two months ago.
At least there are no blockages but will wait on the official report from his paed till I can breathe a little more.
Ahh the joys and stresses of motherhood hey ladies

I agree with BG! They may love each other...who knows?? Probably depends what mood they are in!! I do know that Cara did not think much of my cousin's baby Jack (9mths) when she saw him. He was very loud and squealing A LOT though that day hehe. And ofcourse you know...I will be bringing my camera...I am sure we'll all have lots of nice photos of the babies hehe.
Krystie: Must get some of your nappy covers sometime...Cara pulls her nappy off sometimes!! I do have one cover..it has a bunny bottom to it..I figure that will be cute for easter hehe Oh and the pram is a definite for me! I take it everywhere! She even sleeps in it during the day in the house sometimes when she doesn't want a Mummy cuddle on my chest. I have to move/rock when she is on my chest (laying on bed) and I find it must work out my butt and leg muscles..they have toned up LOL
Bella: Do you have your own scales to weigh baby? I know you can buy them, just never bothered. I weighed Cara at a chemist when she was 3 weeks and wrote it in the book haha The chemist there said I could use the scales any time to weigh her even though the baby nurse is no longer there, I keep forgetting to go down and do it. Might just do that soon...Cara turns 8mths on sunday.
