Hi Girls,
TMTM and Nelly, sorry to hear you are still feeling the sleep deprivation, hopefully it will all settle down for you soon.
Nelly: I am hearing you re your DH, like yours mine is wonderfully but he has his Saturday afternoon golf, when ends up being not home til after 8pm. When I mention down time, he too thinks that my going shopping is a leisure activity. I would like to see him playing golf with 3 kids in tow. Men, they just don't think sometimes.
Will try and get back on later, the whitching hour has begun
-
Nelly it sounds like you have had an absolutely horrific run, and big smack to the head for your dh for being so clueless over you needing some time out!! I was reading in Practical Parenting today about getting time for yourself with a new baby. My time is in the afternoon in bed with Tom, mucking around on my iphone. Can you just tell him EXACTLY what you want - time out on your own, no kids, shopping doesn't count!!
Are you going to get some physio for your back?
Megs, it *should* be witching hour here, but we're having takeaway, and the baby is asleep, and the kids are watching TV, and I've been undisturbed for ten whole minutes!!
-
lol Nelly funny u say that, my parents used to call me a gelfling (from the movie Dark Crystal) and Jade looks just like i did as a baby so now mum calls her gelfling too! just today she has started working out her hands and has started grabbing toys haning from her playmat arch! very cute
-
TMTM - nah not his birthday, one of his friends from playgroup. RE the shampoo. I was the child who, if I was visiting, struck fear in to people and made them lock their bathrooms and laundrys up. At least she used the shampoo - I used to pour any bottles in reach down the drain cos I liked watching it slide down there...and empty laundry detergents on to the floor..
TM - Oscar is grabbing on to things too its cute. Jade seems to be doing really well you must be doing a super job :)
-
Thomas doesn't grab stuff much. He sometimes bats things with his hands, and he loves it when you hold his hand, but he still doesn't hold things.
I had a frustrating week last week with Tom and thrush. He has some thrush on his tongue which isn't *really* interfering with his feeding but he's gone off comfort sucking. So I went to the chemist to get some Daktarin or something for it, and the chemist wouldn't give it to me until Tom had been to the doctor, even though it's an over the counter medication. I didn't want to have to make a whole appointment just to have the doc say "yes", but I didn't want to lie either. I mean, it's been a while since I had to use any of it and I couldn't remember how old Genna was when we used it on her. So we had to wait until this morning when dh and I got our whooping cough boosters to ask, and of course the doc said yes.
In the meantime, I've was asking every chemist I pass by to sell me some and they acted like I was trying to buy crack LOL. Anyway, I got it today and started giving it to Tom on his dummy. So hopefully that white tongue will disappear.

Jamie grabs things sort of if its easy to grab IYKWIM and i found he can only roll if hes wearing his pumpkin patch overalls hmmm wonder wat that means? its very strange
had a fabo day today 1st car broke down 70kms from home (we live in the country) and 2nd the hot water service is stuffed up grrrr
-
TMTM: jade has thrush on her tongue at 3 weeks old, she basically stopped feeding caus it hurt so much, so the nurses at MBU gave her daktarin gel. a good way to do it is after a feed, get a cotton tip, use one end to dry thier tongue, then put a pea size amount of daktarin on the other end and wipe on thier tongue. we did it after every feed and it was gone within a week, she didnt seem to mind the daktarin at all.

Hi ladies, quick one from me... very busy...
Ethan also had oral thrush, I gave him nilstat, they say to swish it but that's hard to tell a baby to do, so I squirt in small amountds and the squirrt water then repeat. but that stuff u use Tatt sounds much easier.
Nelly - sorry the family havent been well. it's so tough isnt it!
Ethan hasnt rolled from his back to his belly since that day, but he has been sick and miserable on and off... Had a rotten night tues night... He had wind and wouldnt settle I was up ALL night and that's no exageration! My fault tho I ate brussell sprouts
My milk started tio reduce a bit from me being so tired and run down so I started the Fenugreek, and my milk increased instantly. Think I might still go see the doc about it tho. My cousin had an issue with her milk and went on prescribed medication and her milk doubled... I would like to see if I can have that too.
Still waiting to see allergy specialist so just a very bland diet till then... :( Better that then making him ill.
Ethan is playing with toys also, he just loves his pram toy, it's a hard one with things that spin and has a mirror by Lamaze, I want to get another one to put on his swing too... has spins the toys around and grabs at them. not really holding things yet tho. only my clothes or neck chain I'm guessing to prevent me putting him down... lol
He just loves going for walks and cries when we walk back in the door... lol
He too is very chatty but not all the time, when he starts tho he goes for ages... hahaha It's very cute! He's not quite laughing still, very close tho. He makes noises that sound a little bit like a giggle but not quite.... Drooling and chewing a bit too now, I'm wondering if he'll be an early teether. :D
12 weeks on Sat... time is flying past!
I bought him the cutest outfits yesterday, a little pair of blue pants and a white long sleeved top with owls on it by Sooki baby and som baby blue and brown striped Oobi knitted overalls... they are just the cutest! I love them! I got them in 00 and cant believe they fit him!! (have to roll up the sleeves still but fits nonetheless). He has to wear booties to prevent him kicking his socks off... lol He's always kicking!
Tatt - What TMTM said is so true. That's what happened to me. If XP was to come and take Jade there is nothing allowing you to just take her back. My XP was to have my DS1 age 3 and DS2 age 18mths for 3 hours, I called child support while he had them and they said he was on the other line saying he had the kids full time... Coz he "had" them at the time I couldnt get them back. I went there with federal police and family and I wasn't even allowed to 'see' them let alone take them home! Very confusing for them! I didnt see them for 16 whole days - until the court date was set, my lawyer even had the court date brought forwrd due to the circumstances. I had never spent a night apart from them until that point and it devestated me! I had a nrevous breakdown and almost lost my job! Just as well DH was around (we had just started seeing eachother at this point) or I wouldnt have coped at all. He then said how many days a week he wanted them and what days and got his wish and screwed me over with day care!!
Just cover yourself hun coz the laws wont! ;)
Also with Jad's dummy in the day sleeps, that's normal. babies of this age usually only sleep 30-45 mins at a time during the day with 1hr 45mis - 2hrs awake periods between... That's pretty much what Ethan is still doing. :)
TMTM - That is too cute about Tom laughing when he's tickled... I cant wait for Ethan to laugh!
And DD with the bubble bath... lol I remember doing that when I was a kid.
And to your question, yes he had the rotavirus vaccine too. So your probably right, it could have also been from the the other week. Coz that can last 7 days cant it.

wow we have all been quiet!
am banging my head against the wall with Sophia's day sleeps - I keep missing her cues bcos I am busy or ith Jake and then leave it too late. The last few days she has only slept if we have gone somewhere in the car and then for a few hours but not sure what to do here, also am not really in a feed-play-sleep routine bcos my days are still arse about.
ALSO had a serious crap mummy moment tonight and after a very tedious and non sleeping day I lost my temper and yelled at Jake and ended up with all 3 of us in tears, topped off by Jake giving me a big cuddle and "kissing mummy better". farkle not fun at the moment at all.
sorry very selfish had to vent post
-
I thought I had replied to this? hmm
We are having fun with daytime sleeps, not :( the only time he goes to sleep is if I need to go somewhere in the car, or in the pram. And only sometimes will he stay asleep when I take the capsule out of the car, or if the pram stops moving.
Most nights he gets a decent sleep and then has another in the morning, but sometimes thats it, unless I drive somewhere. Which is OK for him, but means nothing gets done cos I have no time when we are at home.
It is going to start getting worse too, as I will be home alone with the two of them on Wednesday. Up til now Milo has been at creche 3 days a week, and my mum comes over on the other 2, so Im never really on my own with both of the boys. I hope we all survive.
-
oh Ray I hear you - that is us exactly.
Sophia had a great sleep last night but getting her to resettle this morning after her feed was a challenge bcos she could hear DH getting ready to go to the gym. She'll prob wake at about 830 when I grab her to take Jake to daycare and that will be it apart from catnapping on the breast if I am lucky. Monday is my housework day (bcos of no Jake) and she used to go to sleep to the vac but not anymore - which a phase I know for this developmental stage but phew is tiring. I chuckle bcos I am the one who said "if the night sleeps are good then you can cope with the day being crapola" which I can , just, but really really would like some down time too!
-
I hear you guys about the changes regarding sounds. Jonah still naps during the day but he has become much more sensitive to noises. He wakes up if there is banging or any sudden loud noise -- and there is a lot of that in my house! I guess everyone's honeymoon with sounds (sleeping through the vac, etc.) is over!
He also wakes up at the crack of dawn, ready for his big day. So I've been going to bed really early to try to cram enough shut-eye during the night.
He started batting at things which I find really cute. He still can't really grab though he sometimes manages but it seems to be random. He'll try grabbing and sometimes there is something to grab, sometimes there isn't. Hard to believe it's already been almost three months...
-
A lot of us seem to be having daytime sleep issues! Tom hardly slept at *all* yesterday, literally just a couple of ten minute naps (fortunately I was busy and he was happy enough). The upside is that last night he actually slept for five hours, his longest ever stretch. I haven't had that much sleep all at once since I got pregnant.
Dee, I hope Ethan is okay now and over all those bugs, and that you are well and truly over your gastro!
Rayray, did you survive??? I am so glad that I only have Tom at home during the week... Clare is a nightmare at the moment and weekends are really difficult. Tom can't sleep or have any quiet time without her deliberately disrupting him. She's actually been very naughty lately, very aggressive and sooky. We're having to be very consistent and concentrate a lot on her behaviour (gee, I wonder if that was what she wanted us to do? LOL).
Amazed, isn't it wonderful when they start getting interested in things? Last night dh sat Tom on his lap and read him a book. Tom, who likes to pull himself forward when he's sitting up now, spent the whole time patting the pictures of the animals and coo-ing at them. He's a very chatty baby. This morning he made me laugh - he was in bed with me, about an arm's length away, on his side, talking to me, and then he got fed up and fair dinkum wriggled his way over like a worm until he got to my boob. I've never seen anything like it. He hasn't rolled again (probably because he's such a fatty boom-bah). I got on the scales with him yesterday (not scientific I know) and he's now, by the scales' reckoning, 7.6kg. He certainly feels that heavy.
I'm trying really hard not to beat myself up about the house being a mess all the time and getting so little done. I keep thinking, "I was so much more organised with the others," and then I remember that it was because I was stressed out to the max about disorganisation, I didn't take the time to snuggle as much with the kids, and I enjoyed their first year a whole heck of a lot less. Plus, I'm going back to work at the beginning of next year, and I'll be able to afford to pay someone to come and clean for me then!
I'm making some lactation cookies today - my milk supply is having a bit of trouble keeping up with Tom and he's getting frustrated with my boobs. Oh, and we thought the dribbling was just dribbling (him dribbling, not my boobs LOL) until this morning when we looked in his mouth and there's a flippin' tooth there, just under the gum. You can see the white line where it's about to break through. None of my others teethed this early. He hasn't been too miserable so hopefully it will break through okay.
I hope everyone else is well and enjoying their wee ones :)

Well, Im not sure whast up with Oscar.
This is the first time he's been up wanting a feed at this hour since he was 5 days old its usually 5ish in teh morning, but today 1:30am.
And the last 2 nights hes woken screaming at 11pm with tummy pain. At least Im guessing as he burps and then goes back down.
Alos when I changed his nappy halfway thru this feed is was very wet - generally he goes down 8:30ish, and when I change him at his 5am feed its not that wet, its the next one thats very heavy...weird
HE wasnt cmfort sucking either, had a full feed. I sure hope this is not a isgn of things to come, and that his patterns get back to normal in a week or so.
Im hoping he isnt sick, but wouldnt his nappiesbe drier, not wetter, if that were so?
TMTM - Milo got teeth at 3 months.
Oh dear..I wonder if thats what we have going on here..would explain the unusual behaviour...will investigate in the morning.
Of all nights for this to happen, it has to be the one before Im home alone with the two of them :(

Hi Mummy's,
Sorry to hear your all having day sleep issues - I'm quite lucky with Ethan there... He wakes up around 7am and has a morning nap around 9 which can range from 30 mins - an hour and a half in length. He is roughly awake for 1hr and 45mins -2hrs at a time so I just need to keep an eye on the clock. If I miss it and he's awake longer than 2hrs he's a nightmare to put to sleep!! Each nap is only 30mins in length other than his morning nap. My problem is him being sooo clingy... He only lets a select few people hold him without him screaming and he gets bored so easily so I'm constantly moving him from the bouncer to the playmat to the jolly jumper to the swing then a cuddle and a walk down the beach if it's not raining... just to keep himj busy! and I dont think it's a good thing coz he 'NEEDS' to be entertained all the time. I'm hoping he gets a little more independant as he learns new tricks. He's started rolling from his back to his front again now, only sometimes he has his arm in a funny position and gets stuck part way and stresses out! LOL
He LOVES the Jolly Jumper... It's so funny! It's like he's marching lol but if he has socks on he slides all over the floor. Too cute! He's very very chatty now and squeels so adorable!
With the day sleeps too - We borrowed a baby hammock from a friend andhe LOVES is. coz it hugs him and bounces as he moves (as it's suspended with the jolly jumper spring/chain) he settles himself so I get a bit of 'ME' time now.
I'm flying solo this week while DH is away in Melbourne for work. So far we're doing fine... I have found the house stays much cleaner without him... hahaha Funny that! More time to play with Ethan.
I have started using the modern cloth nappies now and I love them! I got a cushie Tushie and a Green Kids one so far just to try them out - They are FAB! and alot less hassle than I anticipated! I do believe I have been converted! haha
TMTM- We're all better now thanks :) It was the worst bout of gastro I have ever experienced.
Sorry to hear Clare has been a little more demanding - I think that just comes with being the baby of the family being taken over by a new baby! I had similar things with Tye. He is fantastic with Ethan and a great help but I have noticed him being a bit naughtier and more selfish with things. I knew it would happen eventually as he was so use to being my baby! I hope she settles down a bit for you.
And I'm glad your enjoying Tom - housework can wait I say! This is your last little baby and you need to soak up every moment with him - plus he's your only boy! That's a good enough reason in itself!
That is just adorable - him patting the pictures in the book... I think he's gonna be a little Einstein! haha
LOL - And a true boy he is too... They will always find a way to the boob!! hahahaha Classic!
Nelly - Oh u poor thing! I know what it's like... I have had moments where I just couldnt control my frustration - your only human - doing super human things! Being a mum (particularly of multiple children) is no day in the park all the time, Nobody said it would be easy - but it's totally worth it!
We all get like that at times. As Sophia gets more independant it will get easier - I had my first two 18mths apart - it's HARD work! Hopefully as she gets bigger she starts having long day sleeps - even if its only 1 sleep - lets hope its a long one! :D
Ray - Ethan does the same thing ever few weeks... He usually wakes at 4:30am for a feed and sleeps again till 7am but every few weeks he'll be up at 1:30am then 3:30am then 5am then 8am...
I'm just going with it for now as it usually only lasts a couple of nights, then when he goes back to his normal routine he tends to sleep a little better (not as resless or fidgety).
I'm sooo glad Ethan doesnt grunt in his sleep anymore too! haha
I wouldn't bee too fussed, but one thing I did that I found to work (for the past 2 weeks) I put him to sleep on his side inbetween the anti-roll pillows, he sleeps sooo much better now then after his feed I put him on the other side.
UPDATE - I LOVE LOVE LOVE the hammock... Ethan was a bit restless - due for a nap, I started rocking him but he was squirming and whinging so I put him in the hammock and just bounced it a few times, when I came back 2 mins later - lights out! Ahhhhhh They are the BEST invention!
That's twice today he put himself to sleep! At 9ish I put him on the couch with his new favourite teddy - Raffie (lol), went to make breakfast and when I came back he was asleep cuddling Raffie... I put a pic on facebook... Tooo sweet... My heart just melted when I walked back in and saw him like that! <3

hi guys, hows it all going! ive been flat out here being just me with the bubs, mums away for work and i move to my friends place this weekend, exciting stuff! good news is phils mum has been babysitting every sat nite so i can go out partying, im sure youve seen the 'lovely' fotos on my FB from my bday
jade is drooling heaps too but cant feel anything in her gums and no rosy cheeks so maybe just a dribbler haha, and not whingy.
shes quite good, wakes at 5am for a feed and goes back down til 8am, then her day sleeps range from 45 mins to 2 hrs, shes very active and chatty during her awake time so i think it wears her out and her longest awake time so far (since we left MBU) is 1.5 hrs, usually 1 hr tops. she goes to bed about 8pm, has a dream feed at 11pm and goes thru til 5am, so im getting decent sleep, but i need it with all these appointments (BTW apparently i dont qualify for priority govt housing, DV relationship and financial hardship 'arent good enuff' grrr)
not talking to XP atm apart from when i drop Jade off at his mums, he says hes looking into councelling for his mental probs but i doubt it, and he lost his job due to anger, hmmmm...
have started hanging out with an old male friend of mine, nothing serious but some dvd's on the couch and snuggles once a week seems to be doing wonders for me (and no not suss snuggles, yet) :D
TMTM: not that i know much bout kids but maybe clare feels abit put out by the new bubs, i kno ur flat out but cud u maybe organise a 'mummy and clare day' and take her to do somethin she enjoys and remind her she is special and lil Tom isnt any better or worse than her, just different, etc, so maybe she wont be so jealous and naughty? just an option :)
-
Sophia has started the big time dribbling too, so Jake has decided that he has as well. She rejected a dummy (several times) so he has decided that he needs one - have told him it's ok if he wants to ba baby but I'll need to pack away his big boy toys like his train bcos they aren't safe for babie to play with. Hmmmm so far so good :)
Dee / Ray - Ray - Ethan does the same thing ever few weeks...
Sophia does the same thing, althoug when she did it Monday night it was 2hrly from 1am until 730pm, and today has been pretty much the same.
OK - I am not asking to judge I am asking to draw some ideas. How do you put your baby to sleep? Day sleeps (bahahaha what's that) I get if in the car or on me, night time she feeds to sleep is swaddled and put down, and if she stirs after we put her down DH burps and then rocks / pats her back to sleep. Most times though when she stirs in the middle of the night, except when hungry, she will resettle. so how do you get your bubs to sleeep?
Am loving the singsong noises we are getting now, and this afternoon / evening she has stepped it up a notch too! Is so hilarious - I don't remember Jake being this vocal ... but then again I used to forget to speak to him and used to have conversations with him in my head (weird I know).
-
Oscar usually feeds to sleep or sleepy, and self settles at night, and after his first feed.
If he wakes within 3 hours DH or I can normally resettle him, and its usually to burp that he wakes.
Tonight though who knows, hes normally been asleep for 45 mins by now, and I am listening to him coo and makes noises on the baby monitor, not sounding sleepy, even though he fell asleep on the boob.
I think I'm going to be feeding him again soon
