Bec - wow u poor thing! I thibknif I had to be induced I would just go straight to a c/sect anyway.
I totally understand how u feel not getting ur type of birth, hence why I didn't want to do a birth plan, you just never know what will happen. Even so getting my VBAC after fighting so much for it, I still can't see myself doing it again.. Maybe it's still early days but it's just funny how ur mind works.
So glad he found ur boob on his own! What a good boy. Hope he starts feeding properly soon.

Nothing new here, besides my little man is growing so fast. He was born 46 cms now he is 54 cms and he weighed 3.18kgs now he is just over 4kgs. Fatty lol. We went to Wollongong on the weekend and he didn’t sleep to well, but on Monday night, he managed to sleep the whole night from 8pm to 4:30am, but last night he woke up at his usual 2:30 but didn’t get up until 6:30.
How is everyone going? Bubs?
I am sooo jealous of all these bubs sleeping well. Since G had the operation he has been an absolute nightmare. I spoke to a paed today (his guy wasnt on duty) and he thinks G is overtired - yeah well that sounds right because he doesnt sleep more than 1.5 hours at a time! I have spent all day today noting down how long he sleeps and just getting him to sleep any way I can. I really hope it helps him sleep better at night.
His bedtime has been 8pm, but I am going to try bringing it forward tonight because he is always grumpy for about 30-45mins when we put him down at that time.
Any suggestions??

Bec - sounds like you and Isaac did really well to make it through the marathon :D what a mission! What a great job you did bringing your little man safely into the world. Like you I was determined to have a natural, active birth but I was lucky enough to find out I would need a c-sec long before I went into labour - it sounds like you have come to terms with it though. The LC should be able to help with your feeding - it still hurts but gradually gets more comfortable as time goes on. I hope you are not overdoing it while at home alone - you need about a month for your c-sec to heal enough that you start feeling more like yourself (well I did anyway!)
Buzzie - how were your c-sec and VBAC experiences different? I am also interested in why you can't see yourself doing it again? I reckon you said something on fb about natural birth not being how you thought it would be - can you expand? I was curious at the time but thought I would wait for everyone to have their bubs before I asked. Re nappy rash - we have basically been using water and tissues from day one on the recommendation of the middie - initally she said warm water but that was a pita and I figure wipes are cold so I now keep water in the change table - Pearl still seems to get a bit of a rash that comes and goes though - nothing major.
Kirsten - I reckon us country girls are lucky in that they usually don't kick us out of hossie in too much of a hurry.
Connie - maybe George is going through a wonder week or maybe a growth spurt - that's what they often say when bubs go backwards.
Belfie - hopefully your DH doesn't have to work in the evenings too much and A's timing improves - sounds like a busy night!
AFM - well we had our first unsettled night last night - Pearl was basically up and either feeding or crying from 6pm - 10pm then cried in patches until 12:40am when I fed her and she crashed until 6am!! hopefully just the week 5 wonder week. I also reckon that DH is soo excited to see her when he comes home that he gets her all riled up and she struggles to settle again. the two nights before last night she slept from about 11pm - 6am with only one feed which I was pretty happy about. I have started feeding her as much as poss in the evenings (ie if she wakes up and is willing to feed I try to get it into her every 2 hrs) but am yet to master the dream feed.
Apart from last night she seems to be a really easy baby (or maybe that is just compared to looking after several kids at once which is what I normally do when I am nannying) and I am really enjoying being able to spend time at home with her.
I am going nuts cleaning out all the cupboards in the house - which I planned to do before she was born but didn't ge the time when she came early - and have started sorting through my clothes - which can be slightly depressing as I still don't fit any pre preggo trousers!! I know I shouldn't be thinking about it yet but I still have about 6kg of preggo weight to lose and then about 5kg of other weight to drop :o am hoping the bf will help but am trying to eat well at the same time.
Just quickly as I'm trying to organise to go to the hospital, we think G has an infection where he has his surgery. There is pus oozing from the incisions... This would explain the irritability.

oh Connie! I hope he's ok, poor li'l tacker has been through so much! *hugs* for you darl, stay strong and we're all thinking of you and George.
Connie - thinking of little George! hope its not an infection or easily treatable.
Chuckie - i know it sounds silly to say i cant see myself doing it again, but i guess as much as i was in labour with DS, this time was just very intense especially towards the end and the pushing was just ridiculously painful. Also i guess the tearing put me off a little as i really didnt have that many issues recovering from a c/sect, and this recovery has been very tough! (saying that i know anything can still go wrong next time with either) but maybe its all too fresh in my mind atm.
Im DEFINATLY not done having kids DP wants 3 i want 4 (his theory is 3 fit in a car LOL) so i will just have to wait and see what i decide at the time if ill go for natural or not.
Im still glad i did have a VBAC otherwise i know i would be going INSANE wondering what a natural feels like if i had another c/sect. Tho now im absolutely pertrified to DTD any time soon cos of all the surgery that went on in there! :(
Anyone got there babybonus yet? how long did it take? i think it took 3-4 week with DS. So hoping it starts by my next payment! Mums waiting for me to move out and shes decided to move back to Adelaide now!!!
Thoes with little ones.... are ur kids starting to be very babyish atm? Ds is starting to do LOTS of silly baby cries - really fake ones too! i know he is definatly copying isabella when hes near her and she cries!

Buzzie - definitely some babyish going on here. DS imitates her cry so well that my LC (on the phone) thought it was Annika waking! And the other night he wanted some "mook" and "mummy". He then proceeded to sit on my lap (facing me), fiddle with my bra straps, cuddle me and drink his milk!!! Very out of character for him! He's also much more into cuddles and kisses than he was (but it's very cute I must admit). Re VBAC versus C/S, a friend of mine just had a vbac too, and she said tbh she wasn't sure which she'd do if she went back again... i think she was surprised at the healing time involved (and she didn't have as much tearing as you) and realised that for her the c/s wasn't that bad. She said at the 6hr labour mark it occurred to her that the baby would have been out long before if she'd had the c/s lol! For me, having had both the other way around, I think there's definitely pros & cons to both, but the c/s wasn't nearly as bad as I probably expected (so saying, my healing was REALLY good from the c/s), but in the last week I think I overdid it a bit and have had some funny symptoms/soreness but it seems to be settling now, but had an u/s yesterday to check out everything was actually ok. The downside is definitely the length of time healing with the c/s... but then I had to have a episiotomy repair 4 mths later after my vag birth, so not exactly textbook healing from my first delivery anyway!
AFM, my DH is being a PITA atm, just a big grumpy pants. Ah men hey. On the bright side, DS was soooo sweet and helpful yesterday, itw as really cute. And A gave us a good night and day... then a crap evening again... then good again overnight! I swear in the evenings she is just glued to my boobie, ah well, it's doable provided DH is home and i'm catching up on lots of tv.
Connie - oh poor George, I hope all is ok with him, and you too, it must be awful when there's something not right with bub. What kind of surgery did he have to have? Sorry I still haven't caught up yet, there's a lot of reading to do!
Buzzie - that's not good about having to move soon, sounds like there's a bit of pressure to get it organised pretty soon with your mum moving. Have you found a place yet? I'd like to know too how long it takes to get the baby bonus, and also parenting payment.. I'm going to have to start to use my savings just to pay the rent if it doesn't happen soon. I just sent the form yesterday though.
It was our second night at home yesterday, and I'm exhausted! So jealous of all of you who don't live alone, it's so much harder than I thought already. Lucky mum is popping in a couple of times a day, making me a healthy lunch and doing washing etc, she stayed here last night and the night before, but as she was sleeping in the lounge room I was just worried about waking her when I got up for Isaacs feeds (I feed him in there usually), and there wasn't much she could do in the middle of the night anyway. But it was nice to know she was there, and to be able to ask her what she thinks the crying coiuld be etc.. even just her making me a cup of tea or milo was great, simple things seem hard to do at 5am when I just want to sleep but having to feed.
Isaac has been great during the day, feeding then sleeping until he wakes up for his next one, but hard to settle at night time.. I don't know why. He wakes up 20 or 30 minutes after falling asleep during the night, and just cries.. the only way I can get him back to sleep is to feed him a little bit again even though he seemed full from the feed he just had. do you think it could be that he's just getting used to being somewhere different after being in hospital for his first 6 nights with all the noises etc? It's making me totally exhausted all day, but that's probably normal. any ideas on settling???
Wow - I have finally caught up.... so much has happened.
But the thing that is most reassuring to me, is that everyone is having unsettled periods with their bubs, Hannah seems to have them a lot but at least it's not me going crazy. OMG it was doing my head in that Hannah was just so much hard work and I was exhausted all of the time. There have been some better days for me, well last night, but one good 24 hours is better than none.
Hannah has had some trouble with her weight - at 2 weeks, she had actually lost weight from her hossy discharge weight and at 3 weeks has yet to regain her birth weight -but she did put on 105grams in a week and is close to her discharge weight. She is still on the 75th percentile.... but that is despite feeding a lot, I think she was 97th % at birth, when she is a awake every 90 mins to 2 hours. it may not help that I think I had a tummy bug for the past 10 days or so, and that I was so tired all the time. Will see what this next week brings.
So last night we gave her her first complement feed. I was against it, wanting to exclusively BF - but I can't seem to get any decent amounts expressing - either hand or with pump - after 3 sessions with both bossoms I have 30 mls! Just not enough to feed her an extra BF. So we gave her 60mls of Nan HA formula with a pidgeon peristaltic teat which mimics the action of the breast. Wow did Hannah like that formula and she fed quickly and settled quickly and had a sleep from 12 -5, which after not sleeping for more than 40 mins at a time in about 16 hours was a godsend. She readily accepted the breast this morning. We will only feed her one comp feed a day at this stage. Will see how her weight goes.
Hannah has a lot of gurgles in her tummy and sometimes when she is BF'ing she squirms and arches her back and pulls her legs up to her tummy and grunts/moans. To me, that appears like she has a tummy ache. I will burp her, and sometimes get a result. Have yet to try Infacol, although we have some. The label said not to use til 4 weeks...I almost cried when I read that last week...
I am worried that Hannah can't settle by herself very often... but I think it's also a product of her sleeping and settling so poorly that I latched on to what worked and gave us some peace from the crying and allowed us to snatch some sleep. But today, she was really quiet and calm, and showing signs of being tired, but still bright eyed in our arms, but when I put her down, she grizzled and just built up to a full throated cry, and she never self soothes from one of those. That's even with wrapping, which she tolerates at times, soothing pats, gentle rocking, white noise to try, gentle words to try stem the inevitable build up.
Connie - how is George? Did he have an infection?
Bec - so glad to see a pic of Issaac. Sorry that you had such a rough time with your birth... but I am so glad you've got him in your arms.
Buzzie - perhaps for me giving birth vaginally was a link to my angels, but I am surprised that I am actually really disappointed I didn't get to labour at all for Hannah, esp given that I used to say it doesn't matter how she got here, just that she was safe. I needed to have a emergency caesarean under general as I had pre-eclampsia and hellp syndrome which put us both at risk, and in fact my BP spiked to something completely unbelieveable. But I actually missed the contractions and the whole process and didn't realise that I had so much invested in a vaginal birth. I honestly would do it again... and if DH and I go down that path I am going to try to be a VBAC'er, but then my vaginal births have been uncomplicated. But everyone will be different.
Belfie - sorry Dh is PITA.. hopefully it passes.

I had to laugh - it is MUCH easier to clean the projectile poo off us ( even though it's gross) than the carpet walls etc. Hannah had a poo - nami like that and I found a squirt of it in an impossible place and I thought next time, stand in front of the stream and take it for the team!

Connie - Oh no poor little George! How is he going? As for night times. We *try* and get Chloe down for 7pm but is is always closer to 8pm by the time she finally settles. It is really hard to get her down at night. As soon as she lies down she grizzles then cries but as soon as she is sitting up she is ok. So we just persist with the feeding and winding until she finally sleeps.
Bec - great to hear from you and wow what a marathon labour! But you made it though ok by the sounds and now you have your gorgeous little guy with you at home which is perfect. Good luck with the LC.
Deana - ha ha. Chloe is becoming a fatty too! She was born 3 kg 3 weeks ago and is already 4.2 kg! That is 400g per week. Yipes. They can drink cant they.
Chuckie - arrh the unsettled nights! At least Pearl is great most nights for you.

Well I had a bit of a nightmare 2 days.. Re: my coccyx pain. Ended up begging to get into a local Chiro yesterday. He saw me and sent me for xrays. Saw him again this morning. Took Chloe both times and both times she screamed her head off during the entire appt! Anyway, turns out I have dislocated my coccyx *sigh*.:o And yep he pulled on the plastic gloves and (TMI) went to insert the fingers up my bum to pull it back into place. LUCKILY when he was going to do it he discovered my coccyx is unusually low (prob why I hurt it to start with) and that he could move it from the outside (thank god). So after some HUGE pain combined Chloe going nuts in the background I am hoping it is mostly fixed. Bit hard to tell now as I am so tender and sore from the prodding but FX!
Dory - we posted at the same time. I have the exact same problems with Chloe - i.e. I think it is tummy pain or wind. As soon as I sit her up she is ok but lying down she cracks it. We use 'Infant friend' which you can use from birth. It says it is pleasant tasting but it smells terrible and the look on her face when we give it to her would suggest otherwise... I am not sure that it works though. I have only found that persisting with the winding/burping is the only way I can eventually get her down - even if sometimes it takes AGES
Bec – Wow your story is beautiful. I really am so happy for you. You did so well. You did a very good job of bringing bub into this world. How cute.

Ok, Hopefully I can finish some sort of Birth Story for Harlow before she wakes up for a feed..!
We got there & were taken to my birth room and left waiting for an hour & a half before we were seen to by a Midwife, The Hospital had been that busy that day the midwife couldn't say sorry enough. So I had her & a student midwife, They discussed to me what was going to happen, We decided I wouldn't be induced by Gels (Excellent, that was what I was hoping they would tell me because didn't want the gels done) but I would be induced by trying to rupture my membranes & then put on a Syntocinon drip to bring on labour faster. A doctor came in and attempted to rupture my membranes by using the crochet hook..that hurt like Hell & I found myself squeezing the life out of a midwifes hand...my waters never broke so they tried usuing a little spikey thimble on the end of a glove-that didn't work either..They just started me on the drip & about 5 minutes later I was mid convo with David & I felt a slight pop & my waters broke, I got the midwife to check it out & I was right, They had broken (We later found out my actual waters hadn't broken but my hind waters had) and from then on I had light contractions from the syntocinon.
It felt like such a long slow process from here until full on labour because the contractions weren't anything bad and I was coping with them so well the midwife was really proud of how well I was going-Of course they got stronger & closer together and I started to get such intense burning pain in my upper thighs and pain where your undies normally sit over your tummy because of the CTG belt sitting in that spot..I found myself telling everyone who entered the room i felt fine apart from the "F&*$ing belt" and my legs-The midwife said the leg thing isn't very common at all but could be the fact bub may be sitting on my nerves..That was probably the worst pain throughout the contractions...
The contractions got stronger & as they did they kept asking if I felt like I needed any pain relief, they offered me gas, i took one suck in and told them to get rid of the thing, I mentioned i want an Epidural & the midwife said I was so close to the end did I want to try pethadine, i told her no way, get me the epidural-She went off to come back and tell me the aneth was in doing kidney surgery & she had to get my platelet blood results back first anyway, The Anethatist could be about half an hour, i told her that was fine...In the end they lost my blood work so i didn't get it & did the whole labour completly drug free (The one suck of gas doesn't get quaified as taking any pain relief because it didn't get "ingested properly)..I kept telling the midwife i felt like I needed to push, she checked me and i was only 8cm but told me if I felt like I REALLY had to-then just do it..so I did...each contraction I grunted & I pushed as hard as i could and I growled and swore and the midwives had the cot all set up & were at my crotch waiting..and I had the farts so not only was I swearing but I was also lauging hysterically atthe embarrassment of expiring gas infront of someone...which of course got them laughing vecause they have seen so much worse than a little fart come from people!! So I pushed like hell and they could see the head & everyone just kept telling me to keep on pushing because I was doing great..I pushed & pushed and the head was out & everyone kept telling me to keep on pushing, It kind of went hazy at that moment, i kept my eyes shut and David was yelling at me to push, the midwife was telling me babies heart was declerating and she was getting tired and I HAD to get her out..Turns out our babies shoulders had gotten stuck so I had to push really hard to get them out, It caused ALOT of panic because she was so badly stuck, David didn't even get to cut her cord because once they got her out they had to rub her down because she was a dark purple colour (David told me this yesterday, i didn't know)...The next thing I hear was something about her shoulders, to push hard and then "It's a girl, she's here"...I opened my eyes to find about 8 people all standing over me-where the hell did they call come from!!!! They put her on my chest & she breastfed almost immediatly..Everyone then left the room so the three of us spent an hour together before the Dr came to give me stitches (I needed a small episiotimy) and then I was able to get off the bed & shower & go into the room with her for the night...I kept saying over & over again to anyone who would listen-I did it drug free...the midwife & student even came back to say goodbye to me and tell me how proud they were of my days efforts...the student midwife even came back & tracked me down the following day for cuddles with our bub & to see how I was and that she felt I was inspiring...How lovely-I feel SO lucky to have had such memorable midwives throughout both my childrens labours.
Harlow fed great from day dot, she had her second night where she demand fed for about 6 hours straight and didn't latch correctly alot of it so I have REALLY sore nipples, but pushing through it today and getting going with it again, She is a bit jaundice in her face so too tired to drink at the moment so I am having to force feed her a tiny bit to make sure the feeds help clear the jaundice...
Harlow passes her hearing test aswell as the paediatrician visits and just needs blood tests done for her thyroid checks..Bit of a pain because they are frequent this week, she had one yesterday, needs one again tomorrow, Friday & monday...she is going to have the sorest little heels around so fingers crossed the results all come back clear and she won't need them again..
I ended up asking for no visitors by my last day...The hospital was SO SO hot because of the heating I started to feel violently ill when Davids mum & Aunty were there the night before, I basically had to kick them out & sleep immediatly or else I was going to faint, I hate the heat all the time-the hospital was just SO bad...I asked if I could go home because of the heat-Other than that i was ok to stay, I liked the food & care I was having etc..but I am so glad to be home now & more comfortable!! So far at home Harlow is going really well & fitting in perfectly:)
My labour was only 2 hours in total...even though light contractions went on for 4 hours prior to that, they were too light to even class as contractions..i cannot believe I did it all in 2 hours once the hard ones came on..I'm o incredibly proud of myself doing it drug free-even though I asked for the epidural, I am glad I never had it...I cannot believe Harlow is here now, She is such a pretty girl..all 8lbs, 7 ozs of her!

Bec- your little guy is so cute. So much dark hair! Does he look much like his father? Are you going to let him know that Isaac has been born (cool name by the way- my 13 week old nephew is also Isaac!)
Wite- congrats on your delivery of Harlow. Such a quick labour- your so lucky!
Sorry for not many persies. My brain just doesn't seem to function that well at the moment. Hoping it will be like the others and stuff will start to make more sense after 6 weeks!
AFM- Sam is doing great. He has put on 1.1kg in 5 weeks and is now the same size as DD when she was born! He is comfortably fitting all of his 000 clothes thank goodness! We had a rough time last night when he would scream every few minutes and strain like he was trying to push out a really difficult poo! He had had a bottle of S26 gold that morning when we were at the shops soI thought that might have caused problems. Sent DH out at 8:30 pm to find an open chemist and he came back with some wind stuff. Sam hated the taste, although it didn't smell too bad! Ended up getting in the bath with him at 10pm and he was fine. Went to sleep and woke up at 3:30am for a feed.
I went to see my GP today to get Sam's doodle checked (he was circumcised the other week and just had to get it checked- all good) and was telling him about wanting to cry all the time and having no patience for the older kids etc etc. I now have an appointment to see a psychologist who specialises in post natal depression! 4 kids and it only hits this time! There is some other stuff going on which I didn't have last time (my dad has just been diagnosed with cancer- melanoma on his head which needs surgery asap) and this on top of a new baby is doing my head in! Hopefully a couple of sessions with a professional will help and it will all be good!
And whoever was asking, my baby bonus has taken 5 weeks to get as DH filled in the forms incorrectly (you'd think that the 3rd time it would be a breeze, but NO!) and we had to provide some extra info, so it has slowed it down. The payment is $407 a fortnight, so no lump sum anymore!
OK, got to go and put dinner on. Not that the kids will eat it as unless it has a side of chips and is shaped like a chicken nugget they won't eat it. But I want something nice, so tough! OK, fight over remotes happenening again. Put on my peacemaker/ enforcer hat before I don the chef's hat!

Wite - an amazing birth story!! I had to laugh when you said you were doing farts while pushing.. so funny what we worry about isnt it! I could have pooed while pushing and I would be none-the-wiser as I really did not want to look. I am glad you had such good midwives too.
Kirsten - you sound like you are doing a wonderful job to me! Good luck with the winding - it seems a few of us have the same problems with our bubs. Chloe cranes her nexk and goes red in the face like she is trying to do a poo but then just cries!

I just wanted to say a quick hello -
as I should be here as our DD was born 16/9, but I am being a bit naughty and "double dipping" with my BB (Sept 1-15th - DD was due on 10/9) (though I don't get on BB very often - seems I don't have the time anymore! LOL!)
I haven't read all the posts yet, but did want to say a special hello and congrats to Dory who I know from PAML.
Oh, and our DD has had some unsettled moments too - going through a bit of a growth spurt me thinks!
Hi Milly, Congrats on your baby, A month already- Don't they grow up SO fast!!! If you don't mind me asking-what is her name?
Fuzzy- The whole passing gas thing I was mortified by, I kept bursting into fits of laughter after a contraction and apologising for farts, They kept saying not to worry & They had seen worse & I kept saying 'But my god it is So embarassing!!!" hehe!
I've given in & given Harlow the dummy! I said that I wouldn't but she sucks NON stop, even when she has a belly full of milk, Just born with such a strong sucking reflex that I felt it best to just give her what she wants, I am going to try not to rely on it a smuch as what Jett had it though (Constantly!) but I have found it is helping her and stopping her fussing alot, The other night I fed her for hours and in the end realised she was only using me as a dummy and not for my milk-cheeeky!!!! I gave her the dummy & she settled really well & has ever since so it seems to just be working better for us...
Harlows cord dropped off today, sorry-but ewwww!!! I made DP go and change her & dispose of it, It is just one thing I can't bring myself to keep..!
Ok, let's see if I can catch up..
dory - George is a bit the same with the self-settling. Sometimes he will just grunt and squirm for 5-10 minutes, and then nod off. Other times he will just wail, and we know that there is no going back from there so we have to pick him up. Oh and if he sneezes, forget about it, it wakes him and he cracks it! Everytime we put him down is different, some nights he will sleep from 8-10:30pm in his cradle, then refuse to go back down from 11:30 - 2am, which is where we end up holding him till his next feed at 3am. Then at 3:45am, he'll go back into his cot and sleep till 6:30. He is just all over the shop! I can NEVER predict what will happen, every single night is a mystery.
fuzzy - ow ow ouch!! I hope you are feeling better. A friend of mine had the same issue with his coccyx and to have it adjusted *ahem* internally. Sounds yucky!
wite - I did exactly the same with the gas. Took 1 puff and said 'This is crap!' and handed it back to them. Haha Good job doing it all naturally, I think when it's that quick, you really dont have a choice, or time to think about it too much! I didnt do farts while pushing, I do poo! Continuously... hahaha... and having them there made me feel uncomfortable so I was yelling at nurses to get rid of it!
As for the dummy, we use it to stretch him to the next feed, but I try and avoid putting him to sleep with it, because it always falls out an he always ends up screaming out for it.

Kirsten - let us know how you go with the psych. I would think how you're feeling is pretty normal, given you have the other kids to take care of/ driving you crazy! I only have 1 and I wanted/want to cry!
As for George... well, this kid has been through so much and is so tough! Turns out the site of the incision IS infected. He is on antibiotics now. We have another appointment on Monday to have it re-checked. He also had his 2 month immunisations yesterday, 2 injections - 1 in each leg :( He was so good... he didnt even cry! I was worse than him, I couldnt watch! Lol
Hopefully he will settle down a bit, now that we are getting on top of the infection - fingers crossed!
Wite - Isabellais exactly the same with the constant sucking!! I gave in to a dummy and she loves it! Tho hard when it falls out and she gets upset.

Connie -i hate doing injections. I bawled the first time I took DS! So glad George didn't cry!
Dory - I don't know if the nurse has already said this to you but it sounds like HB could be hungry?? The settling well after a bottle thing is a bit of a sign in my book (Pearl was hungry and cried all the time until we started feeding her ebm on top of breast feeding).
Connie - good grief - poor George! Sounds like he is coping with everything like a trooper - hopefully this will be the end of it all and you can just settle down now.
Buzzie - baby bonus took a couple of weeks to start coming through - I applied online then just had to send in a couple of forms so it was pretty easy.
Wite - I was hoping I wouldn't need to use a dummy but at the same time was open to it if I needed it. If Harlow needs it then there is no harm in her having it (particularly if it helps you stay sane). Great job on the birth - I love reading birth stories and you did so well - love the names too.
Kirsten - GL with the shrink! Let us know how you get along. I had some prenatal depression with my second pregnancy and it was awful - crying at the drop of a hat and angry (at my boss at work!) when I mentioned it to my doctor he basically ignored it but looking back I needed some help! You don't have to put up with it so I am pleased you are getting help.
Fuzzy - gosh what a painful thing to happen -glad you got it sorted!
Fuzzy and Dory - can you prop up your bassinetes with a towel or something at the head end to help with the wind?
Bec - maybe Isaac has his days and nights confused? they say they can start to tell the difference at about 6 weeks.
AFM - I finally managed a successful dreamfeed last night after several failed attempts (I woke Pearl up once, another time she then decided to wake every 2hours that night which she never does) so I was pretty pleased about that and will continue to do it if I need to my rule is going to be if I find myself waiting up so I can feed her I am just going to give her a dream feed and go to bed myself. Apart from that everything is going pretty well except I think Pearl is having a slightly unsettled week (hopfully due to wonder week this week) thankfully she choses the evening to cry though - not the middle of the night!!
I have been wondering how to keep her warm at night when I put her in her cot - she is still being wrapped so can't sleep in her sleeping bag but they don't recommend any blankets in the cot - any ideas??
Chuckie - good work on the dream feed but especially the persistence. To keep Hannah warm, when we wrap her, we add blankets otherwise there is no way to keep her warm, unless you have a heater in the room. I do try propping, but sometimes it makes her scream even more. There is no consistency, but its just a matter of persistence.
Wite - lol... farting is better than pooing... farting is funny! I am a pooer it seems - two vag births and two massive poos... yuck and oh lordie the smell just lingers.... I am with you on the gas .. revolting stuff. It was good to read about little Harlow's arrival...
Fuzzy -f darl you poor thing... is the pain any better? How is Chloe? I think Hannah is hungry too and there is a problem with our attachment so there is not enough milk. We try and try but.... and I am a poor expresser.... 40ml from 5 sessions or 10 individ boobies!
Kirsten - I am so proud of you for seeking help, even inadvertently. I had some very teary days, cry at the drop of the hat and even after I woke up, about day 15, but it seems to have cleared up. It was a scary time though. I think you are amazing and Sam and your other blossoms are lucky to have you. It's a lot you have on your plate... so go gently.
Connie - G is so brave and an infection... it's not an easy road huh? H and G sound so similar with their lack of predictability. It makes it hard. had to laugh - sneezes and hicoughs and changes in position all seem to cause the little eyes to spring open and sleep is out then. I hope Pearl settles down for you soon.

Well - Hannah had a rough day yesterday - she would not settle at all between about 7am and 3pm. There were some power naps in there, but everytime I thought she was asleep and put her down she would wake up and scream. Poor thing, I could tell she was tired. She then slept for about 3 hours. Was awake for about 2hours and then slept a marathon from 9pm to 1.45am! Then she settled relatively quickly for the next 3 feeds - only took about 1 1/2 to 2 hours including feed and settling.
Today has been better with a bit more sleeping in there.
It's a hard lesson for me to learn, but I have to just learn to take things as they come and not have expectations about how long Hannah might sleep for and how long it might take to settle her. DH and I are trying to work our our latching at the breast, so that perhaps we can help the situation. Will see. Have a Paed appointment on Tuesday re the issues - hunger, feeding, wind, lack of weight gain, staying awake for ages and crying for ages too.

Kirsten - that's what all the midwives said too - look at all his hair! He has heaps, it goes curly after he has a bath. So cute. Good on you for seeing a psychologist too, it really does help to talk things through with someone not involved in anything, and with someone who can offer constructive advice. I hope it goes well for you.

Chuckie - the way I kept Isaac warm in his hospital bassinet thing was to wrap him, lay him on his back and put a folded up blanket over him from about chest level down. This was how the midwives showed me, no one mentioned not to use blankets so I still do it the same now we're home.
Dory - have you contacted ABA about your feeding and attaching? They could send an LC out to see you. The LC I seen was great, since then (Thursday) Isaac has been solely breastfeeding, no more expressing for me and fiddly finger feeding - I am so proud of him! How are you expressing? Maybe you could hire an electric machine from ABA (its $10-20 per week), they are so much better than the hand expressers. Also there is a medication you can get to boost your supply if that's the problem. Also apparently calorie rich foods are great for milk production, my LC recommended drinking Sustagen.
Last night was a bit better with Isaacs settling. I think it might be because my bedroom is so cold that he's having problems. Last night it got down to 4 degrees here, and my room is not heated so we both slept in the warm lounge room, and I had the best sleep since being home. I've been trying different things, baths before bed, baby massage, feeding in bed lying down, but still he wakes up very soon after feeding, not like the day time when he has great sleeps. You could be right Dory about having his days and nights mixed up, I asked my midwife about that and she said he's just too little to know there should be any difference yet. I'll try sleeping in the lounge room again tonight, maybe go to the bedroom at some stage and see if his sleeping changes.
Connie- Poos! you poor thing!! The midwives dont care though, they quickly remove it, I was so paranoid I'd do the same and remember in Jetts labour them telling me that even if i did do it they wouldn't tell me they would just discretly remove it..I'd rather know though..so i could be mortified about it later!!! Jett used to go to bed with a dummy & we would be up all night putting it back in..With harlow though she is only really usuing it for the daytime and afternoon when she gets fussy, nighttime she has been pretty good without it, i definatly don't want her to be as dependant on the dummy like Jett was, Took us forever to get the thing off him when he was 2.5yo!!!
Buzzie- I am so sentimental keeping all the kids stuff but I just cannot bring myself to keep the cord-why I didn't think of keeping just the peg/clip is beyond me though!!!
Chuckie- When I had jett i was dead set certain I wouldn't use a Dummy..but I had one night of him screaming from 7pm til 7am and gave in and gave him a dummy & it was utter utter BLISS and i was so glad that I did it...I went into this pregnancy mroe relaxed about it "If she has a dummy she does, if not it doesn't matter"..turns out she is happier having one and I don't mind, I figure a dummy goes away...a thumb doesn't!
Dory- Pooer!! haha, You poor thing! I kept laughing with each fart I did-Apologising then bursting into a fit of giggles and putting the blame on my unborn baby!!!!! When I was to be induced with Jett I remember I was so scared I would do a poo that I went to the toilet about 200 times the night before pushing myself to clean out my body just incase!!! The Nurses must have thought I was constipated because on my form before being induced it requested I have some fibregel...I had to tell them I DEFINATLY didn't need it, I wasn't constipated, i was just scared I'd poo!! I'm so glad someone else agrees with me-Farts ARE funny :D

Fuzzy - yes, I think so, thankyou for asking. Still long periods of wakefulness, some contended some not so much. Poor little blossom is tired, but still is hard to get to sleep... she has red eyes, but all the settling techniques take time to work through and the one that works changes each day and even during each day. For instance - this arvo, it was a walk in the pram. Last night it was mummy cuddles. Other times its passing of wind.
Chuckie - we wrap sometimes and not others - depends on the mood of both Hannah and us. Usually we try it, but if it's not working, we unwrap her. Sometimes it helps and others it just makes her extra fussy. But we also use a light cotton blanket or more than one , tucked in firmly at chest level. Actually the blankets we use are cotton wraps, so that's why we use more than one.
Dory & Connie - ah yes they love to keep us guessing dont they! Just when I think I have something figured out - she changes her response and throws a spanner in the works.
just quickly - my coccyx is still bad. Muscles have tightened around its new position so chiro trying to loosen those and slowly manipulate it back into place. Normally they have to do the 'moving' part internally but thankfully he can feel mine from the outside *phew*. Next appt on Wed and I am at my wits end - going to beg him to please get rid of the pain. It is just so so hard to sit and therefore to breastfeed!
Fuzzy - thank goodness for that you don't need internals! The indignities would be never ending.
Wite – congrats and very lucky on the quick labour. I found the gas did nothing as well, the midwife kept telling me to suck it in but it did nothing at all, so I told them to take it away.
Kirsten – Blake had the same problem with S26, gave him bad wind and constipated so we changed to Nurture Gold and its great. I just wanna say as well, that you are doing a great job with all your kids.
Milly – Welcome and congrats. My DS was born the 15/9 but I decided to stay with this group as he is only one day out lol. I should get into the other group as well but its hard to find time these days to get on BB.
Connie – Im doing a lot better thanks for asking. It is getting easier now. How are you and little George? I hope his infection clears up nice and fast. Poor bubba
Dory – We are both doing well thank you. He has settled a lot and its getting easier. How is Hannah? And her sleeping going? How about you? I hope your ok. It gets tough when they don’t sleep or don’t sleep for long. Blake still doesn’t sleep for long during the day so I can never get naps in.
Everything is going well here. Still have our ups and downs, but its getting a lot easier. Im going to join a mothers group (still have to ring them), hopefully that can help. Have so much to do and little time during the day to do things as Blake still doesn’t sleep much during the day, but im getting use it to now lol.
I do have to ask though; did anyone get the vitamin K and Hep B injections for bubba’s in hospital? I remember Blake getting 2 injections, one in both legs when he was first born, and in my record book, his Hep B immunisation is signed but they haven’t circled yes or no to the vitamin K injection, but I swear I asked them to do it so now I don’t now if he has or not.

Deana, Yes we got Vit K & Hep B with Isla at birth. At a midwife appt I got a Vit K form and had to sign it before she was born. Do you remember getting the form? Not sure if it's the same for all hospitals though.
I've got my first mothers group tomorrow at 10am. Looking forward to it as I didn't go to any with DS. You should probably find out when your one starts ASAP as you don't want to miss out. :)
Wite, Harlow is gorgeous, especially with her light (blonde?) coloured hair! Your birth story reminded me of my DS. He got stuck at the shoulder too, I luckily got him out just in time although he came out not breathing but thankfully made a great recovery. Scariest thing i've ever experienced not knowing if he was going to make it or not.

Sorry about the lack of personals but i've gotta go have a lie down before going to pick DS up from daycare.
We are going good here, Isla is having up to 180mls every 4 hours. We've been getting some good sleeps every now and then during the night sometimes 6 hours straight which is nice. She sleeps alot during the day, she's mainly awake in the morning after her 1st feed for the day and then in the afternoon.
Have my 1st mothers group meeting tomorrow so im looking forward to that.
Will be interesting to see if I know anyone from around the area.

Deana - I refused the hep but did vit K. Yeh u should of signed forms first. I would contact the hospitalto find out cos it's pretty important to know. The hospital stuffed ally paperwork up and I got 3 different reports about Isabella which I'm FURIOUS about. Her book even said I had an emergency c/ sect from failing to progress !! WTF! and I was 41 weeks all her apgar scores were different! So worth saying something.
Re the gas: I had it also and kept saying it's doing nothing but the midwife kept pushing on me cos i was going phyco with pain lol and she said apparently it takes a few minuets to get into ur system so I kept going and yep it kicked in but it was horrid and I felt so dizzy like I had been drugged and the room
Was spinning so don't think it helps at all.

Isabella is doing great. Nappy rash is slowly getting better but cos all the nappy free time. She's a pretty good sleeper (but I won't brag lol) have had maybe 1 bad night so far but that's about it. She resettles straight away with boobies but the only issues would be she poos so much I find my nights being awake are to change nappies cos i cant stand poo on her bottom especially with the rash.
DS is still sleeping thru so I'm blown away by that! And DP has stuck to his word and stays over heaps. He's done such a good job alway cooking dinner and gets DS tray and into bed and then looks after Isabella so I can get ready for bed.. He's such a good bloke lol
A week ago he was telling me who of his mates he would have in our wedding lol so I'm hoping for that nice fat rock next!!

I've been reading & meaning to post but have just been flat chat as I do DH's bookkeeping and it's time for BAS, plus Annika has been quite unsettled. We've been trying Infacol or infants friend but our MHCN also thinks Annika has oral thrush so that could be making her windier. So I'm trying to cut back my sugar eep!! Anyone got wise tips for treating it? The gel was making her spew but seems to help it more than the drops.

Grrrr.... I cant believe your bubs are all sleeping so well, George is so up and down. :( In his 6 weeks at home, we have had 2 decent nights.
I am feeling so bad for him, we are in a 1 bedroom apartment (until our house is built). I think he would do so much better if he was in his own quiet and dark room at night.

Connie - big hugs hun it's so frustrating when everyone elses bubs seem to be sleeping better, but it will get better. Poor little George has had a rough trot arriving early plus the hernia & infection!! And veryone who IS having bad nights probably hasn't had time to post! You'll get there and it will get better.

Well I forgot to say that trying to do bookkeeping and look after Annika is driving me nuts, so I cracked it at DH and told him I need more help if it's gonna be done, so he's helping more so I can get it done. Thank goodness!! Ok time to sleep again I hope...
Connie - I'm with you on the bad nights.. Issac is sleeping great during the day, but at night his feeding is all funny. He has smaller feeds, falls asleep and wakes up again pretty quickly sometimes before I can fall asleep. He doesn't cry though, I hear his little noises when he wakes up and starts to get agitated and sucking his hands and opening his mouth really wide and pushing his head forward as if my boob was there (very cute). I try everything else first in case its not a feed he wants, but usually its the only thing that settles him. Last night felt like I was constantly feeding, at each feed I tried to keep feeding him after he fell asleep but it didn't work. I know he's getting heaps of milk, I've got it coming out everywhere so its not a low supply problem, its Isaac falling asleep before he's had enough. He should sleep well today so I'll sleep when he does. Don't stress about George not having his own room yet either, it sounds like he doesn't like it but I'm pretty sure the SIDS people recommend babies sleep in the same room as parents for the first 6 months anyway :)
Deana - Issac had both hep b and vit k injections (vit k at birth, hep b after 3 days), and you need to sign a form for the hep b. I can't remember them asking about vit k though, maybe it was during surgery but I'm pretty sure its a routine thing.

Last night was our first night at home alone, and it was not as daunting as I thought. For the first two nights at home mum stayed with us, then my sister arrived from WA the day mum went to Queensland, and only left yesterday so I've been lucky to have someone at home with me so far. Now its just me and my boy, so we'll see how we go :)
edit: Belfie and Buzzie, if you don't mind me asking, why did you refuse the hep b? Reason I'm asking is because I read so much about it while I was pregnant, and when they asked me if I wanted it I was so sleep deprived I couldn't remember what I'd read and what my opinion was, I was so confused I just agreed to it.
bec - i refused it cos its only a baby booster. Its not totally nessasary as the 3 injections at 2,4 and 6 months will still cover them. i think its good for high risk ppl maybe. but my personal reason was there is enough jabs and things for a poor bub, especially poor isabella had SO many, i didnt want any extra i knew that she would be ok without. DS didnt have it either.
Connie - sorry to hear about georges sleeping.. if it makes u feel any better DS has always been besides a shocking sleeper most nights i was up between 6-10 times a night, a good night was 4-5 but took an 1-3 hours to get to sleep. my worst night he was up 17 times!!! He has been a VERY demanding bub. and hes is 3 in december and only just started sleeping thru now...
Im just SOOO glad isabella isnt like that! even with isabella sleeping, im finding i struggle more during the day these days then when it was just with DS.

Same here... neither of mine had it cos I figured my bubs weren't in a high risk environment, and they still get covered by the later jabs. I had also read that it's not recommended for premmie bubs, so I felt why load up their little systems with it even if they're full term. So saying, it probably doesn't make any difference anyway. My hossie got me to do a form beforehand asking what I wanted... IMO much better not to be asked for decision when you're groggy & recovering! So saying, if in doubt, agreeing is probably the safest course anyway!
My woo hoo today - took both kids to the shops this morning... and Annika actually slept thank goodness! Now i"m bookkeeping... arrgh... that's why I'm on here procrastinating. WORK BELFIE WORK!
