Hi all, wow all these kids starting kinder soon. We finished Ash up at her CC yest, she was only doing one day cause we're doing council run kinder. Its 4 half days, bit annoying but at least then she has something on most days.
Not much happening here, Ive had DF home for few weeks, him being school teacher has too many holidays, think I'm ready to send him back lol.
rach - alexander is doing a C&K one also.. a brand new centre so we are very excited!
Hope all are well x
Hi Girls
Both Caity and Liam have been going to pre school for the last year now, in nsw its a bit differnet they can start at 2 years old, but when they hit 4 years they start a school rediness program.
I did my cert 3 in childcare last year and now working at preschool where the kids attend, but i must admit it is extremely stressful whn your own kids decide to have tantrums there. the kids go to pre school/ daycare 5 days a week because of my work, which is so bloody exhausting for me and them.
my older kids are fine, jessica will be 18 in 2 weeks, and has already moved out of home with her first dips**t boyfreind, as you can tell i dont really take to well to him, he is a manipulator and i hate the fact that he has got her where he wants her.
the other 3 live with there dad, nicole moved out of here early last year cause jessica and her constantly fought with one another, and she asked to move in with dad, so i let her go..so now its only me and the little ones now.
I have a boyfreind been seeing him for over a year now, which i must say it has been a very intersting year for us both, lots of up and down, but i think we have finally worked out our sh** and things seem to running smoothly atm......
anyway best be off liam just woke up and is screaming for my attention, this single mother sh** gets rather hard at times, so over it.
OMG for the first time EVER i managed to get J to eat a pice of raw carrot. He is really in to dips atm, so I told him to try it with carrot. Success! He ate it. Small steps it was only one piece. But a start...
Better than having to servie him veggies all mashed together - that is the only way he will eat them otherwise!
YAY Meg...
WOOHOO Meg!!
hey i was wondering who's mini one will be heading off to full time school this year, if any states were like mine? Miss A starts transition in term 3 and full time school in term 4.
hi girls,
I havent been here for ages either! just had a read to see how you all are! good to catchup with you all to see how you are doing.
Meg thats great about J's veges eating, Julia wont eat any such a struggle.
Chrissy - great to see you! sounds like you are doing really well, and the kids too at kinder xxx
Ness - congrats on your engagment hon! have fun planning the wedding...
I mostly do see you all on FB so I dont come here often.
Bit of an update on us:
Julia and Tara are both at Kinder this year I got them in the same one finally! YAY! Tara's first week alone at kinder shes never been left alone for a whole day without me and hubby so was hard for her but shes settling in now well. Julia's doing the school readiness program and is going well.
As most of you know we are expecting no.3! we get to find out on Monday what the bubba is!!!! how exciting! and 1/2 way already :)
Hugs to everyone and I hope you are all well.
Belle- are you going to tell us what flavour you're having or is it top secret? Can't believe you are bout half way thru. How have you been feeling lately?
Ness- No school this year for us, we do full year of 4yr old kinder here then everyone starts prep at the start of next year. Saw yr engagement pics on FB, looked great and yr dress was gorgeous, now for the wedding!
Meg- Yay! Ash eats vegies ok but Emily is a nightmare, only way she ever eats is grated up in spag bol so she doesn't know!
Cougar- God that'd be hard dealing with room full toddlers all day then take yr own 2 home, think I'd be driven nuts. Glad things are going well with the boyfriend. Sounds all busy there!
I'm starting to get excited for our Sydney meet-up, wish everyone in here was coming but will be great to see those that can make it. Df isnt looking forward to me going but will serve him right for all the nights hes gone out drinking all night can see what its like on his own!
I hope everyone is Ok. been a long time since we have heard from a few peeps in this group. Hope you are all well xxx
Hi all,
Not doing too well at the moment. J is not coping at Kindy. He spent most of yesterday crying. Every time the teacher left his side he cried. This was during the “learning” part of the session. He was fine for morning tea, outside play and story time. She knows that he has anxiety. I don’t like her or the way she is approaching him. I didn’t like her when I met her last year, as she was vying for an aid for him on the grounds of his anxiety. She then pulls me aside and tells me that all the other kids are fine, so he should be too. That they can all produce awesome artwork, so he should be too.
I really want to pull him out and send him elsewhere. I know that he struggles, but what does she want me to do about it?? He did really well last week..
I think I need to go back to the GP. I might need further assistance for myself, as having panic attacks and very stressed.
Anyway I don’t even know why I am writing this. No one reads this thread anymore anyway……………………………….
awww meg..hopefully things calm down for J soon a few of the little fellas at jacks kindy were fine the first few weeks but last week and today OMG the tears the tantrums etc....I think its part of the age as well and new routines etc...
meg hopefully the GP can help ypou as well :comfort:
I am having dramas with Jacks kindy teacher now, first last week we had the hottest day ever I swear .... Jack come shome all flushed and worked up... then he started complainging of a headache I almost took his to the hospital as I suspected slight dehydration grr... so I approached the teacher next morning she fobbed me off then I came home to a ph call asking me to stay back to talk about the water issue...as I was unsure how they monitor the kids drinking etc, well they tell them to have a drink a few times a day but dont actually montior the kids drinking grrr...for freaks sake it was 35c+ day with 90% humidity....anyway we came to a solution jack can have his water bottle with the cups that way they can see how much he drinks so tuesday arvie I pick him up only 1/2 th ebottle is drunk...yep thats all grrrrrrr...and then today I asked about sunscreen application at kindy, she informs me they aren't allowed to apply it, WTF!! I signed a form saying they could, so basically I apply it at home he is then outside from 8.45am till 11am-ish no reapplication then they go inside but everyday have been outside when I pick him up at 2.45pm she informed me today oh they are only outside 10-15min before pick up fark!!!!!!! they can still burn in that time, so am waiting for a call from head office in brisbane re policy cause thats crap and if thats the case I will go down there very 2 hrs and reapply jacks sunscreen grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
At our kindy all the kids have their waterbottles that they can grab at any time for a drink. The sessions are shorter, so in regard to sunscreen, we apply before he goes and he should be fine. THey also have a no play outside policy from a certain temp.
Thanks for the reply Rach. It is nice that someone is listening. My thoughts are that if he doesn't appear ready by the end of the year, he can repeat kindy again. I just feel like her attitude that "all the other kids can do it, so so should he." is so wrong.
our kids ply outisde till 11am ish except when its wet as i said monday was a scorcher 32c when i dropped him off and they were outside...still waiting for ph call grrrr...they have big esky jug and each kid has a cuo to help themselves too but really how many 3-4 yr olds will stop play to have a drink
can he repeat kindy??? i know in qld they have to start grade 1 by a certain age
Meg, I cant believe that kinder teachers attitude! Why is she putting everyone into the one basket, why do they all have to be doing the same, i thought kids did things at different times and you help those that need it. What was the outcome of that assesment he had last year? sorry I've forgotten. Are there other kinders? why doesnt this teacher sit down with you and both discuss concerns and what areas to work on. Maybe look elsewhere someplace that will be more supportive.
It sucks too its affecting your anxiety. Keep in mind about repeating kinder, my nephew did and so did Matts nephew and it did them really well.
Rach, our kinder doesn't do sunscreen but like Megs they are half days and they specify for us to put in on everyday between Oct and april I think. Its hard when theyre away from us and we have to rely on others to do stuff we normally do.
That sucks Meg. Could it just be him getting used to kinder? I'm actually thinking an aide could be great, or just anyone who can suggest activities, give him a heads up about what's happening, so that he feels comfortable about what's going on. If the teacher doesn't have time to walk J through as much as she'd like, perhaps an aide/assistant could help. Maybe can you ask if he's been seeming anxious about anything in particular, and work with him on it? Like with the 'learning' time, sit down and do similar activities at home so he doesn't feel out of his depth at kinder?
Hugs though, it's tough when our kids struggle.
Erk at the sunscreen thing Rach. That's wierd about them not applying sunscreen...why do you check that box then? Wonder what our kinder does. Ours go out first thing in the morning. Riv makes a beeline for the digger in the sandpit every morning, according to Rans. Ours has a shadecloth/sail thing, but I'm not sure 'better make sure I keep in the shade' is on a four year old's mind very much..
Riv hardly drinks at kinder, but it's not been hot so far. Hopefully that won't be an issue. I don't think ours have cups...maybe they do...
Riv's gotten off to a pretty good start at kinder! I wasn't sure what to expect with his speech/social delay but his teacher is really easy to communicate with on that. The first full day he did a lot of wandering during activity time, and had a meltdown and bit his arm 30min before pickup (they think he was just tired), but his second day he wandered much less and was happy. He's so proud of his lunchbox and schoolbag. There are two autistic kids in the class who share a part time aide, so if Riv really struggles they'll look at trying to extend her hours so she can help him, but I'm optimistic at this stage that we won't need it. We'll see. And I need to get off my butt and practice no wandering at home with him, maybe setting a timer - how long for do you think? 15 min? While we do an activity with no wandering allowed.
How's everyone else? So fun to have these kids in kinder. Hopefully all our issues are just teething problems.
ETA: That must have taken forever to write! Hi Shell!
well she made a point of telling em todayshe topped up his water bottle so he drank almost 2 bottles of water today which is good
so I got ahold of the local area (CQLD) co-ordinator about sunscreen policy she will look into it but what our hand book reads says the teacher/aides must apply sunscreen before outdoor play...also reapply at ceetain timelines as per sunscreen bottle instruction so she is out here on thurs doing a year begining assesment so she will be bringing it up subtely so I dont get dragged into it, (very small town) and will ring me friday and let me know the policy...
freaking crazy in the bloody qld heat not to be applying sunscreen to the kids, I have had one friend say oh they have shade fark me does no-one read the guidelines relating to slip slop slap etc
I jsut lost my post, so will do it when I get home from work tonight (not meant to be on BB now - naughty me!!) But today he did much better at Kindy.
Gee I miss everyone in this thread. I wish everyone was back on here.
YAY that J did better
Hey Meg.. sorry we dont mean to ignore your post.. Glad that J had a better day!! I haven't had a problem with Annika as much but i did with Millana at day care for 6mths straight, she would scream EVERY time i left her which was 2 days a week. I really hope it settles soon for him and he starts to enjoy himself.
Nelle- thats great about Riv
Rach- thats really odd about the sunscreen, Its def part of our health care system here. so hope they get on top of it.
Annika went and picked her school bag for when she starts school, not til term 4 but she is still ultra excited about it.
at our pre school where i am one of the teachers, we apply sunscreen as soon as the kids come in, we generally have the kids outside playing till 11am, most of them arrive after 9am, so we only apply sunscreen on their arrival, and when its afternoon outside play we reapply, but we head outside at 3pm, after aftrnnon tea. We have widebrim hats for all our children, as alot bring in their own, and they are not wide brim, so we bought all our children hats last year, so they all get maximum sun protection esecially the boys on their ears. We also bring the children inside on extreme heat days, if its too hot for us adults we go inside, inot the air condtioning, in nsw a couple of weeks ago we had around 9 days of extreme heat, most of those days we just kept the kids inside, letting them out for a 10minute "run" . we also have water in their drink bottles constinalty filling them up after each meal and placed in the fridge, or just left out for the kids to drink whenever they want.
it is hard being a teacher, as a couple of weeks ago, a parent turned up and her son was outside sitting in the sandpit, with no hat on, she spat the dummy big time, i was the only teacher outside, she threatened she was gonna take me to court if her son was sunbrnt etc etc..she was going off for about 30minutes....but little did she know that in the minute( and i mean minute) that she arrived to pick her boy up that he had just went inside to go to the toilet , taking his hat off, then getting into all the computer equipment( running off, when i asked him to come outside) then another child 2 year old, comes over to me crying as a child threw sand in his eyes, so i was cleaning all the sand out, when this boy came back outside, not putting his hat on and going back to the sand pit, and his mother turned up...shouting and screaming!! but the funny thing is she had 2 more children with her both walking outside with no hats on...and i had anothe couple parents there that saw the whole thing that just shook their heads.......luckily for me, i did not know this was all going on, only found out later, otherwise i think i would of been sacked that day for telling a parent what i think of them....
chris i didn't rant or anything just asked about sunscreen, as i said we had to sign a form giving permission also in the handbook it states one of the responsibilities of the teacher is to reapply sunscreen etc, and when she said to be oh they are only outside 10-15min before pick up (pick up being 2.45pm) being in QLD central QLD with the heat etc...I was like what planet are you from woman, I was so annoyed ,but hopefully it will all be resolved tomorrow and I will know whether they can or can't apply sunscreen if they can't I will ask to be informed what time they go outside in afternoon and I will pick jack up early...
hey rach didnt mean for that post to offend, just telling how our centre operates.
no offence jhust letting ya know I wasn't one of those mums
but christ I've put my foot in it for sure....most of you well those that read my FB page would have seen I made a comment about the policy never mentioned the kindy's name etc...but now I have been contacted my a commitee member basically telling me she felt the way I went about things was wrong etc, I should have contacted the committee if I felt the response from teacher was unacceptable, well **** I am a new parent to school I dont know how things fricken work, the worst thing was she was on my FB friend list, now I dont know if I delete the entire group of friends from my hometown, about 14 or so I have deleted this one plus another I know was on commitee but no longer lives in moura...but do I delete them all fark, is there a way of blocking a list of people when you make a comment on FB or do you have to block each individual person... i hate confrontations i get all emotional I dont think I did anything wrong all I did was ring the central group for the branch of kindies, then had to ring the loacal area co-ordinator...all I wanted to know was what was written int he book correct or was what the teacher saying correct ... turns out the teacher handbook hadn't been updated blah blah blah but frick me
Hey Rach - That's why I am slowly closing down my Facebook. Stuff always seems to go wrong from a simple comment! I truly believe that your initial request is very valid. I am very surprisesd that they wouldn't be more diligent with sunscreen. If jack came home burnt I would be screaming blue murder.
Cougar - sounds likeyou are doing a good job! Good to see it from the perspective of a worker.
Ok - so J did heaps better yesterday. He participated well in every task was stayed focused. I just have a really bad feeling about the teacher still though. He was at Childcare today in the preschool room, and they say he is doing quite well there and has integrated well into the group. So I am still in two mind about maybe pulling him from the Council run Kindy and put him in the Childcare centrea preeschool program. I know it is more expensive, but it might be best for J. DH reckons we should ge it this term and re evaluate. So we will wait and see.
He still hates drawing and painting, and only does really simple drawings. Anyone elses' kidlet not into art? What do you do to encourage them?
Hi to everyone else. I hope that we still have some lurkers. I hope you are all well.
so the teacher as contacted me this arvie the committee member has again as well...the policy about sunscreen needing to be applied was what i thought the teachers handbook hadn't been updated but now the kids miss out on that 10-15min of outside play because the teacher says it easier than applying sunscreen :wall:
Omg I don't know why it is such a big deal for them. Every other centre seems to be able to do it just fine! Sound like they are just lazy!
Gah. What's the teacher/child ratio? Maybe it really would take too much time to do each child if they need all their teachers for supervision. I don't think our teachers apply sunscreen? Riv doesn't smell like it. His teacher seems pretty switched on though, so I'm sure they have a strategy.
Had another chat with her today, apparently he was hitting, not hard, but still. She thinks it might be his speech, cos kids don't bother saying 'sorry, what did you say?' they just shrug and ignore if they don't understand. I've been a bit slack about calling the speechy, better do that tomorrow.
I hate FB, I never say anything personal really, unless it's positive. Too many people happy to comment thoughtlessly.
there are 22 kids 2 teachers....
I am just ughhh about it all now, I feel like because I questioned something I am in the wrong
for those that dont realise I am extremely shy, for me to approach the teachers about the water and sunscreen issues was a huge step, I hate conflict or confrontation it can even take me a few hrs t ask Jase something liek I'd liek to go to rocky to see mum this week etc he's my husband and I still find it hard
so too be shot down is very hard for me to cope, I was saying to jase sometimes I wish I could do like self help, self esteem course I never used to be like this I was reasonable outgoing I think a lot of it stemmed from when we had Katy, I wonder if in reality if I didn't have mild PND...that just sought of let everything else stem from it does that make sense
I know I am rambling, I am supposed to go to a kindy AGM tomorrow night, I really want to go so I can understand how the kindy works etc, but I know this committee memberwho I have now found out is a executive member something to do with the running of a community based kindy so I knoow she will approach me and too be honest I just want to move on grrrr :wall: time to grow a set
 Maybe write down your 'party line' so that when someone says something you know how you'll answer. Just explain that it wasn't a complaint, you were just calling to clarify a point. Sometimes people get so caught up in the politics of leadership and committees that they forget these things aren't personal - you just had a question!
Hi guys, I hope that everyone is settling into school well.
I have just been browsing through some of the other threads and have noticed that more often lately, things are getting out of hand and people are being nasty to each other. I cannot stand this and just want to let you all know that it is really nice to know that everyone who is part of this particular thread (to me) is really lovely.
I can honestly say that there have been times when I never thought I could get through the day. It has been really supportive to know that we can voice our feelings and get honest feedback which is in no way attacking.
From the moment I met you all ( well read about you :) ) when all of our sept babies were tiny in our bellies (except for Belle who I went through with in a clomid thread), to the msn chats, baby shower gifts, christmas presents, cards, sad times, miscarrying, subsequent babies, relationship problems etc. You have all been a pillar of strength for me. It is hard to say but I have been at such a big low, and it is nice to know that you are always there. I cry with you, I smile with you and have my heart invested in each one of you and your families. Pretty soppy post, but I don't think you should go through life leaving things unsaid. So even though I don't post really at all, I want you to know that as soon as I can get my life back on track I would dearly love to catch up in real life. Maybe the next bb catch up :)
Take care xo
Helen - that is so well said! I totally agree with what you are saying. There is so much negativity, but this thread always seems to say immune from it all. It is a safe place.
I think I am struggling with losing some of the people from this thread, as their wonderful words of wisdom got me through some difficult times.
THinking of you Helen, and hope things are getting better for you. xxx
Helen, what a beautiful post, yep the September 06 Mummies are totally awesome!!! I am still around and check in but are slack with writing.
Rach - I have been reading your posts about kinder and I feel for you, I also hate conflict situations so I can totally understand where you are coming from and how this is made you feel, you did all the right things and I hope now that things are on the up and there is no fall-out from what has happened.
Meg - How is Master J going now, some of the kids at Rylee's kinder are taking a while to settle in. As for the teacher saying they should all be on the same level, how ridiculous is that and coming from a teacher as well, as if all kids are the same!! I agree that you should see this term out and make a decision. I don't think it is unusual that some kids don't enjoy art, all kids have there own thing that they love and that's what makes them the special little people that they are!
AFM - just waiting - 38.5 weeks, feeling tired and grumpy and don't know whether I want the baby in or out! In - for all the newborn sleep deprivation and out - for comfort, ha ha! Anyway, we shall wait.
Love to all.
L xxxx
Hi girls, im sorry I havent replied until now.
Ive been in hospital with a virus for a while as some of you may know from my FB, it was horrible they didnt know whats wrong, but eventually the neurologist said I have labrynthitis which is inner ear virus, Ive been on steriods but am still really dizzy with this virus in my ear, so cannot go out of the house at all , I can bearly walk around the house without losing my balance and its been a week since Ive been home, yesterday was the first time since hubby was back to work, so looking after kids with this loss of balance and dizziness is a challenge. The MRI at the hospital was so scarey they had to check no bleeds or tumors especially since im pregnant and have to have a c-section at the end of June. Thankfully all was cleared and I was sent home.
Helen - I agree the girls in here have been a pilar of strength for me, I love you all, we have been through so much together and we are still strong even though we dont post much.
When in hospital we had my morph scan and it looks like another girl! 90% change they say, we are happy and fine with it! So bubba will be names Ella or Lisa if a girl and still Luke if bubba turns out to be a boy by any chance!
hugs to everyone.
Bel
xxx
YAY Belle!!! Oh I really Like the name Ella!!! (if i ever have another girl I want to have Evalyn)
opps posted too soon!!
Hope your feeling better now Belle
Boo- wow not long now, good luck for your upcoming birth.
Hello gorgeous ladies!! Been awhile ;) Yes it's Sharleen, I've been thinking of you all lately and just thought I'd pop in and see how you are all going.
Meg - I sincerely hope things get better for Mr J at kindy, try to keep an open dialogue with the teacher about what's going on, and if you really feel he needs to be with a different teacher maybe you could start looking into somewhere else? Sometimes things sort themselves out with time (and sometimes lots of effort), but other times a move can be the best thing. And take care of yourself as well, definitely go see your GP, having someone to talk to can make a huge difference.
Rach - I agree with Nelle, write down a few points just to refer back to. Your questioning the lack of sunscreen use if definitely valid - I know at Miss A's kindy they reapply each time they go outside, and they ask parents to put it on at drop off if they don't already have it on. Even in my classroom's (back in the day lol) as the kids would go out to lunch I'd stand at the door with a pump bottle of sunscreen and they'd get a squirt in their hand to apply themselves. Really not time consuming at all. I do know that there are some issues about teachers having to touch children to apply sunscreen, but if you've signed that form (even though it's not updated - which is odd in itself) there shouldn't be an issue. Don't let the others intimidate you, you have an incredibly valid point.
Boo Boo and Belle - Congratulations to you both on your pregnancies!!
Beatrix - Congrats to you on your engagement! Wishing you and M a lifetime of happiness :D
Helen - That was a beautiful post, and what prompted me to come back in here actually. I look back on those few years of our pregnancies and bubbies with such fond memories. :grouphug:
Cougar - Hi! Hope life's treating you well.
Nelle - What happened with Riv is definitely normal, maybe you and the teachers can just focus on encouraging him to use words to communicate and it will all fall into place eventually.
Much love to you all!
Wow Sharle, good to see you! All the best with uni stuff, I'm amazed at those of you who juggle study and parenting. Must take so much self discipline. Sorry to hear you've been sick. :( Do they have any ideas at all? Sickness sucks.
Helen that was lovely. It is nice to have that constancy in here. I remember some of our early day rumbles and chuckling cos we all argued like sisters.
Ah Belle that sounds awful! I hope things improve. Lisa's not a name I hear often these days! I'd sort of forgotten about it!
Hugs and footrubs for these last weeks Laurin. I reckon it's a testament to the discomfort of late pregnancy that going into labour feels like a relief! I understand about not looking forward to the sleep deprivation though. Have you stocked up on frozen meals, or at least tinned soup?
Riv's been a right button pusher today, he squeals at Si which makes Si WAIL like a limb's being cut off. Button pusher and drama queen not a great combo. Resorted to letting Riv watch episodes of The Mr. Men show on iView on the computer. I was starting to feel violent...
Today J was crying when I left. When I picked him up the teacher has asked for a meeting next Thurs. I really feel like they think he is a burden. I wish I wasn't so forthright with what I told them at his prekindy interview.
I had a bit of a teary about it all at home tonight. You just want what is best for them.
Ness - What strategies did you use with the crying?
Boo boo - I was just thinking that you must be due any time soom.
Belle - Love your names! I am one of three sisters, and we are all very close.
Got to go get ready for netball
Oh that sucks Meg. If they're not willing to work with him towards a good outcome then maybe it will be best to move him. I hope the meeting is to offer assessments and strategies - ours has already mentioned things like a worker who covers the whole area who can drop in to observe and help the teachers find the best way to work with anxious or delayed or difficult kids. I hope they're willing to work with you toward a solution.
Meg- with M I offered her a treat on the mornings of her child care. She had a special little treat bag she got (still does have) on her day care days and i put in 3-4 little treats of choice, marshmellows normally cause she loves them.
I really hope they can suggest some coping ways for you, as child care providers they should have a few up their sleeve.
