Ooooweee CLARE...unofficial congrats!!!! Off to find the announcement now. :D
ETA - oh I see you've posted an announcement. Thrilled for you! And *maybe* another Sept bub - you gotta be pleased with that :).
Arte, glad you enjoyed your Christmas when it finally came! :) I was thinking about you wondering how it all went.
Well I went to the hospital to get some liquid drained out of my back - they got 200mls out :o and there's still some sloshing around in there :o. I suspect I'll be back next week doing it all again. Dr wouldn't show me the needle...apparently it was Big. After that we dragged ourselves up Rundle Mall...I needed another post surg bra & that was all the excuse I needed to go to DJs...talk about a madhouse in there. We got a cute little plate and cup that says "We love Santa" with all these cute paintings on it for leaving the Big Man's cookies out but not much else...oh except for the bag of 20 dusk votives for $20 (all my favorite scents). Gotta love that. Wanted to get some mini splaydes but they were all sold out in town. Me and my splaydes LOL. We were in Toys R Us looking for playstation gadgets and I felt a huge twinge of sadness walking thru the baby area with all the gorgeous things for bubbas... Still it was nice to get out to the shops with DH and no crabby bored kids in tow for a change.
-
Clare, many many congratulations! Christmas bubs for you and MM were at the top of my christmas wish list this year. And Yay for September babies, my favourite!
MD, I had to google splaydes lol. I have secretly desired a spork for years but DH HATES them with a passion so I have been to embarrassed to ever admit it lol. Yucko at the back liquid, but good call not to see the needle.
Today W woke at 8am, no nap all day, ran the entire 1/2 hour evening walk and still wasn't ready for bed until 9pm! I am sure it is not normal! Any suggestions for getting him to bed earlier? We have mostly cut the day nap but if he does have a nap even for an hour we can't get him to bed before 10pm. It is frustrating, we need a bit of kid free time at night to unwind.
-
OMG MD! They make MINI splaydes? I had no idea they made small ones. I think I will have to indulge and find myself some LOL. I have seen those needles they use for aspirating fluid and they are big. Think horse size ;) That is a lot of fluid they got though. Do you feel better after having it taken out? Are you allowed to wear underwire at all or do you have to have soft cups at this stage? If you can only have soft cups I can recommend triumphs Endless Comfort - I live in them and they are great.
Arte, I have no idea what to suggest hun. Some kids just dont' need a lot of sleep unfortunately, which is crap I know when all you want is a bit of adult time at night. Maybe you could try waking him earlier and see if that works?
-
MD - I can imagine that needle would have been huge!!
Arte - sorry no idea on the sleeping. Apparently my BIL was like that, he would refuse naps at day care and the carers would be really excited when they got him to have one (like every 3 months) and then he would be up to 11pm that night. He does sleep now though..... Awfully jealous of the 8am wake up though.
Clare - so excited for you, that is great news.
MM - have everything crossed for you in 2010!
Well we have been working on our reward chart here. She has been pretty good at day sleeps, although either DH or I has had one with her each day this week. She also gets a star if she stays in bed all night, not so much success with that one, this morning she wanted to hop in the spare room with me at 5am and I refused to let her so neither of us got any more sleep after that. If it was the occasional time I wouldn't mind, but she's been doing it for months and it's such a pain when we have people staying carrying her mattress through the house in the middle of the night so she can sleep on the floor in our room. At least this week we have progressed to a 5am request instead of the 11:30pm we had last week.
We have had a lot of success with bedtimes this week though. We straight out said that Mummy and Daddy would only come in one time each after we put her to bed. The first night there was a lot of whinging and we did one more visit after quite a while but since then she has been good. I went in twice tonight, but only because DH had gone to visit his parents so he missed bedtime.
K and I braved town this morning with all the crazy tourists. So many people!! We got a couple of things (including a special light that looks after her in her room), but the main thing was getting out of the house so DH and FIL could start the new fence! All the posts are concreted in now which is so good. Will finish it off when we get back from Canberra.
Going up there tomorrow for about a week. Hoping to get some quality kid free time, might check out the luxury movie seats. There isn't anything I really need at the shops, but I'm sure I will have a bit of a wander around. We are taking both K and her cousin swimming on Thurs morning which will be fun. Hoping to get some laps in while Granny swims with Miss K.
And everyone keep your fingers crossed for DH on Thursday - he is going to a car auction and we really want one of the cars. So hoping to be coming back in separate cars (I bags the one without the small whinging child....)
-
I'm LOLing because I've started another rush of Splayde envy for the second year running . I didn't know they did mini splaydes either Trill, until my friend said she saw them on special...I instantly knew I needed them - perfect for cakes & dessert occasions, kwim?
Trill - I feel really sore now - I think it's my back rearranging itself - not to mention the hole!!! - but I expect to feel a lot more comfy tomorrow after a good sleep. I'm in a special highly ugly beige post-surgical bra by a co called amoena who do all the prosthesis bras. It does up at the front & is very supportive and I'm on drs orders to wear it night and day for at least 2 months. After that I expect to diversify into some nicer soft cups for a few months but eventually I should be able to wear underwires again. I could do with some Endless Comfort LOL - my underarm is still so swollen even this bra gets old around 7pm before I settle in for yet another 24 hrs of wearing it!!!
Arte - go the sporks!!! Your DH can enjoy using his clumsy old-fashioned knife and fork while you spork away happily by yourself. LOL Sorry no suggestions other than to implement a quiet time every day - when W is confined to his room to play by himself - quiet time with books or a CD or a DVD - just to give yourself time out.
Cally - yay for your new fence!!! Well done on your progress with the sleeping. DD1 used to make a real fuss and crying carry on until one night I had some friends around for a nutrimetics demonstration, and a friend who was her FDC lady came in and put the hard word on her...and DD1 LAUGHED. The game was up then, from then we knew she was just playing the game and not genuinely distressed, it was easier to be firm after that. Good luck with the car!!!
-
MD eewww at the big needle, I hope that isn't something that has to happen often?? woo hoo on shopping with no kids..... so envious lol.
Cally good luck with the car. we have a reward chart here too. Good work on getting her in to bed, lets hope its not to much longer before she is staying in there all night.
ETA Cally I love the AV!!! Very nice
Arte I wish I had some suggestions for you, I would go mad without some me time at night. L got a bug collector too, his is more like a bug habitat though and has a night light and all lol. There is a bug vacuum you can buy too which I want to get lol.
We put L in undies yesterday, had one accident about 10 mins after putting them on. He told us he needed to go to the toilet and we found the big yellow puddle on the way lol. He did do a poo on the toilet after that though, we were all so excited lol. He still isn't eating dinner and seems to eat less and less each day, not real sure what to do about it? He still has loads of energy. We have started him on some multi vitamins until we can get him to eat properly. Still having loads of tantrums tho they do seem to be getting less dramatic lmao.
A big hello to everyone else. Anyone have any plans for NYE?
-
Oz, W is living on fresh air and sunshine atm, he eats maybe half a peice of fruit, half a peice of bread, and a couple of bits of bugger-all all day. I think our section has been completely de-bugged, but he still wants me to find a huge snail today lol
Cally, love the avatar! Sounds like your bedtimes are getting better. If we put W to be when he is any less than dead tired we are up for the next two hours putting him back to bed.
MD, that bra sounds sexy! Why do they have to make them beige? Couldn't they at least do a black or something so you could feel a bit more glamorous.
-
Hi girls!
Arte: i'm afraid i just dont have any real tips, having a bit of a sloth child when it comes to bed time. how does he go if you have quiet play just before bedtime? we find that DD goes off much easier if she knows that this is her last play for the night so she gets it all in quick and exhausts all teh possibilities ITMS...
MD: :o big needle huh? hmmm have to say that would make my toes curl too!! i watched this program on the ABC last night about 3 sisters that find out they have the dodgy boob cell gene and it follows their stories and and thoughts about the whole situation. i couldnt help but think of you and it really drove home the kind of stuff you've faced...far out.
as for the beige...yeah, what is up with that? i'm with Arte on this one and beg all the designers of surgical wear to really reconsider all that beige...i mean, it's not like it is trying to look skin colour is it?!!
Oz: we find DD can fluctuate with meals. sometimes she goes through a phase (like ATM) of just not being interested in a meal. atm it is lunch. have had a hard time over the last week or so to get her to eat any lunch at all...
Cally: woot woo on the AV! have you shown DH?!
AFM: all good here. my mum is visiting and we are doing loads of girly stuff. off to myer today to spend my giftcard...thinking of a big bag. ATM all my bags are either nappybags or handbags. i want to have something inbetween that looks nice but can hold some nappies and changes of clothes.
leila is singing 'jingle bells'...pity that she sings it as 'dinner bells' instead ROFL! ahh that's my girl!!
-
Hi Ladies!!! Sorry have been so MIA - have been away and things are rather crazy as we are in the midst of mahem with the move, setting up DH business, car buying, NZ holidays, melb holidays - you get the picture!
I have had a read - Jaz I am so sorry about your loss. I know how much you adored your grandma and ia m so glad you and your lovely girls had one last nice visit with her. Hold on to all those wonderful memories my dear friend.
Clare - woooooooooooo hooooooooooooooooooo! i am so excited for you my sweet.
MM - your turn now, i am sending out the vibes your way.
MD - oh yuk on the needle, hope it makes you feel better though. i think there is a business opp for some nice looking post surgical bras (like hot milk has done to the mat bra).... hope you find your mini splaydes!
Clare - your drive sounds awful... i am impressed you got through it so well! go sista!
Cally - are you bidding at the pickles auction? if we dont get one today we are too... (online though as we will be away) - tell me what you are going for as i dont want us to push the prices up on each other... i think tomorrow and next week will be good auctions with people being away etc (though i guess all the dealers who bid these days will still be around). anyway we are hoping to get one today (i am going out there in about an hour actually) so it may not be an issue...
had a wonderful week at the coast (i was one of the 'crazy tourists' - though wasnt at Batemans Bay!) - N had a ball and so did we. mum gave us some wonderful times out - massages and dinner at bannisters... loved it and i had some awesome 1:1 time with N at the beach each day too. he is such a delight now - amazes me with his vocab and understanding of concepts - it is kinda freaky.
bit stressed with reorg at work, needing to rent a house, buy a car, DH leaving work etc... looks like we will move mid feb - not long (and now we have this holiday to NZ in the middle which,as it turns out, is hirrendous timing!)
J is delightful - started himon solids but not so interested - he will be 6 months on tuesday! wow! i think his teeth have been giving him some probs but he is a bit better now. we are up about 3 times a night, not bad but with everyone asking ' is he sleeping through' - i do start to feel sorry for myself!
better go, i will be on and off a bit now as we are so busy - am thinking of you all though and at least reading when i can on the i-touch...
xxxx
G - did you get any good CR stuff in the sales? i did!
-
MD, just had a bit of a google and Peters of kensington has them for $27!!!! Gorgeous mirror finish stainless steel and they are 14cm long. I measured mine and they are 18cm so not a heck of a lot smaller, but they would be a bit daintier? I am seriously thinking about ordering them.
MP great to see you hun. I love Rick Stein and would love to have gone to Bannisters while we were there too but I don't think it's the kind of place I would take our kids to LOL.
ROFL Clare at the 'dinner bells' now that is a girl who knows which side her bread is buttered
Oz, Alister is a grazer, he will eat constantly throughout the day and come tea time he eats bugger all because he is already full. The only way he will eat potato is in hot chips and the other night he actually ate all his tea because it was chicken schnitzel and chips and two cherry tomatoes  we had a full salad with ours but all he eats is tomatoes. He will eat pasta though, always guaranteed an empty plate if we are having a pasta dish. Maybe just try giving him mostly the stuff you know he will eat all of and add a little bit of new/less favourite stuff on the side? If you lead by example and eat well yourself, then your kids eventually follow. Maybe you can try having an assortment of stuff cut up in a lunchbox and leave it in the fridge or somewhere he can easily access it and just let him pick at it through the day.
I find fussy eaters are created by 1 the parents eating poorly themselves - we have good friends whose kids live on crap because Dad wont eat vegies either and they have learnt that if Dad isn't eating it, he isn't going to force us to eat it either and 2 because the child's tantrums for particular foods have always been indulged. If you put a plate of food in front of them and they point blank refuse to eat it, that's fine, but dont' indulge the tantrum to give them something else. Erin wouldn't eat potato either, and would carry on like a pork chop if you tried to make her eat it, so we just kept putting it on her plate but stopped trying to make her eat it and one day we realised that the spud had been eaten as well
-
Good morning all - Cally - looking good - love the cricket theme - didn't notice your avvy yesterday though???
Oz, Missy E is eating a lot less - tho she does like her food so not fading away here - I think you'll find they start growing a lot less now - it's why the clothes change from 4 sizes in the 1st year, 2 sizes in the 2nd year and from here on in you're pretty much going up a size only once a year, kwim? E is getting very fussy though - constantly asks for something then refuses it - so I've found it helps to put a few different things on a plate and let her eat whatever she does or doesn't want & not stress out about it. When they get hungry they *will* eat. Novelty food like yoghurt frozen into an iceypole, or sandwiches cut into shapes with cookie cutters, or picky plates where the food is arranged to look like something can appeal to them a bit more.
Arte - I know *exactly* where all the big juicy snails hang out in our garden (underneath the raintank) LOL. Bug catcher's paradise here - you're welcome to visit anytime with your crack bug-catching team!
Clare - we have a sloth child here too. I was like that when I was little...I remember my sister constantly waking me up to play while I tried desperately to sleep in. LOL at dinner bells!
In defence of the bra, beige is better than white...doesn't stick out so much underneath clothes (she says after having worn whities for most of the year). My surgeon who is always the consummate smooth professional finally revealed himself as a Real Man when he said he's always pleased when his ladies choose the flesh coloured and not the white bra .
ETA Trill - I'll have a look at Harries for you today...I suspect theirs might be a bit cheaper (40% off), so will let you know. I bought the satin finish so intend to get them to match. Them's words of wisdom about the spud-eating.
MP - glad you enjoyed your time away - can't believe J is 6 months now! Was it the quickest 6 mths of your life, ever?
-
thanks for all the advice. He used to graze all day and still eat dinner then when dinner dropped off we didn't worry as he was still grazing but he just seems to be eating less and less, he isn't even interested in all his fave foods. Like I said he still has loads of energy so I am not real worried its just been declining since he turned two. I am sure it is just a phase though so will just keep offering.
-
Oz, that sounds about the same as here. We do eat healthy and haven't indulged any tanties (and there have been many lol) but I think it is an attention thing because he has been acting up for attention when DH is around (even though he gets heaps anyway). So at dinner time DH is always badgering him to eat more/making aeroplanes etc and I think it is making it far worse but DH doesn't think it is a problem. But when he is away W just sits there and eats, not much but without a fuss.
MP, you sound so busy you make me tired lol.
Cally, forgot to say Yay for the fence, you will love the freedom of having a safe secure play area.
Trill, W was the same as Erin and A with the potatos, they always made him gag. It has only been in the past couple of months that he has started to have a nibble on them. I never forced the issue though because if he was gagging on them then obviously they weren't his favourites lol.
-
Cally: i also forgot to say that when the fence is finished you will not recognise yourselves! ever since we moved to the new place with proper secure fencing all our lives have improved immensely! Leila just loves to play outside and i can keep an eye out on her with ease. so much fun!
MP: wow! you guys aren't doing things in half! moving house and holidays is something we do LOL! :crossfingers: that you get the car!
Arte: i think i was similar to W with the eating. mum reckons i lived off sunshine for the first 12 years LOL!
Sherie: ahh bummer that we didnt plan it as we went through west wyalong! bummer! that would of been so awesome!
-
Trill, I got the mini splaydes for $24 at Harris Scarfe, so let me know if you want me to get some for you and post them up. Going back to the shops tomorrow (need new undies but ran out of steam today).
-
Yes please MD! I would love it if you could do that but don't go putting yourself out to do it.
Clare, so you're not coming back this way then I take it?
-
hi girls
clare- congratulations!!! i am so thrilled for you, it's very exciting!!!!
mp- yes i got lots of goodies at CR sale- lots of shorts and t-shirts in size 4 for L next summer and a few tops and cardis for myself..oh and a lovely beach bag too :)
um as for eating ...well, sometimes L eats ok, but other days he really doesn't eat much at all. loves his fruit, which is lucky...but still manages to go absolutely carzy everytime we drive past a mcdonalds- screaming like he hasn't been fed for a week and will die without a happy meal.
jimmy is officially standing up now, which is a bit of a worry! LOL he's very daring and wants to do everything his big brother is doing
-
hello lovelies :)
Clare - Congratulations to you!!!!!!! I'm so happy for you guys.
Was scared just reading about your road trip. I got goosebumps though reading about your new truck driving friend. I love how people look after each other in times of trouble. How is your Oma and Opa?
mp - lots going on for you - but i'm pretty sure you'll cope beautifully. ( i think we should start calling you 'Wonderpan'!! Hope you get the car you want.
md - i recently found some splades in my cupboard - got them for a wedding present 11 years ago. I think i might have to start using them!! I wear beige bras - they go nicely under white ;)
arte - i have found on the days that H doesn't have a day sleep - if she goes down to bed too late - she's overtired and can't get to sleep. What time do you take him into his room? Is he allowed to read books quietly by himself?
oz - we're not doing anything incredibly exciting for nye - will probably sit by the river and watch the fireworks (at least the reflections off the apartments across the river lol)
re L's eating - H has been a bit the same too. She'll then have a day where she gets her appetite back.
cally- hope you guys get the car you want. I too am loving your avvy! have a lovely time in Canberra :)
hiya Trill :)
have a lovely evening everyone
