Sherie: oh trust me i totally agree with the little turds statement LOL! my cousin went to an exclusive private school in brissy and the crapulent stuff that went on still gives me cold shivers....and yet, it rates high as in the rankings.

ohhhh i NEED the no brand pull ups!! i cant believe how much they are to buy branded. bought them once in italy and liked them, but couldnt justify paying almost $1 a nappy.

G: oh dear! not the gastro!! you poor wee ducky! :hug: i am happy to go the following saturday...same time same place...

AFM: all good here. finished off my first draft of my thesis! woot woo! am totally exhausted and came with the news that my oma has had another stroke. doesnt really surprise me as she was taken back to toowoomba (against all our wishes but my opa is adamant to bring her as close to home as possible). and of course she went back to the care of of her old GP...who prescribes her ENDONE PATCHES :o the woman doesnt have acute pain (she has an identified addiction to pharmacueticals). these patches can cause bleeds in vulnerable people and my oma is on asprin-y type meds for her bloodclot issues so you can imagine the outcome of that :wall: the hospital has warned my grandparents about not using them and had banned them from her when she was in the nursing home in kingaroy...in fact, they would do full room searches each day AND search my opa (poor man i am angry at him but also understand why he gives them to her IYKWIM). but alas, at the new home they arent fussed and her GP has direct access to her room. not a good combo.
i want to put in a formal complaint against the GP but have no idea of how or where to start...and then there is a part of me that has kind of had to 'accept' that this is what my oma wants to do with her life IYKWIM. i dunno...

ARGH! Just did a big post and lost it!

Anyway, the gist was Clare, I am so sorry that this has happened. The Dr is being negligent because he knows the risk and likely outcome of giving it to her and yet he does it anyway. Your poor Opa though :( I can totally understand why he would be doing it though. I really hope she pulls through again :hug: But on a brighter note, I am very happy that you've finished your draft, must be very relieving to have it out of the way.

sorry to pull out on our meet-up. we're feeling a lot better today but i still think the right thing to do is postpone. i'm such a PITA and i can't do next sat as we ahve a 30th birthday on the fri night so the kids won't be getting to bed till a little later (always happens when grandpa babysits) so will prob need a sleep-in. can we make it sat June 5th or any other weekday before then?

um, sorry i've forgotten everything. head is still so foggy from being sick and over-tired. jsut wanting this week to be over.

arte- i would go the school and check it out for myself. i have taught at some of the 'rougher, poorer,dodgy' type schools, and most of the kids are just so lovely. i honestly think that the low socio-economic thing becomes a much bigger issue at high school than primary- because the teenaged kids are more likely to be influenced and affected by their peer group than the littlies JMHO of course. i think you will find that the majority of primary schools are pretty good- some better than others, of course, but none of them truely shocking iykwim? this is not true of high schools though, some of them are absolutely atrocious.

ok arte- just re-read your thread about schools- sorry, i read it yesterday before you had replied again. ifyou have seen fighting there and know someone who has taught at the school and had to give it up, then i would def not be sending W there. get in contact with the out of zone school and find out what their admission policy is. is there any private schools in your area? one that he could catch a bus to?

Hello girls, sorry I have been MIA, I am so lost with this new forum layout and I am so out of whack with what is going on in everyones lives these days! I have been busy focusing on uni work and family life in general. I also took an enjoyable break from bellybelly as I was feeling down in the dumps with ttc #2. It has been nice to not think about it so much, but I have missed everyone and knowing whats going on with you all. FB in a way has kept me in the loop a little. Anyway I am dropping in to say we finally have some fantastic news, we are expecting #2. I had a scan this morning, I am 6 wk 3 days, its in the right spot and the heartbeat was perfect. SO, knowing that, I am much more confident and eager to let a few people know. However, we have shocking luck with our holidays....as I found out two days before we were due to leave for o/seas, I spent the whole weekend in emergency trying to rule out an ectopic. However due to it being too early, they couldnt give us a diagnosis, so they advised us not to go. :( Deep down I knew it felt different this time around, but the risk was too great, our insurance would not cover any o/seas surgery due to being warned not to travel. Instead we flew to Melbourne & we spent 6 days in Melbourne, and drove along the Grt Ocean Rd to Adelaide over 3 days, then spent two days in Adelaide. It was a nice little trip, and at the end of the day we are thankful for our chance at #2 and there will be plenty more trips to Malaysia in the future. Amazingly two sonographers now have told me that this pregnancy has come from my left ovary (dodgy side) and the tube on my right (good side) has come over to pick it up, I never really believed that theory deep down, but seems it is possible! M is doing so great, she is a cheeky little miss but just talking heaps these days and is lots of fun for us. Anyway girls, I just wanted to pop in and share my little secret with someone, as I am waiting till the 2nd trimester to tell most people. :)

Cass, I'm so sorry to hear about your Oma :hug:. I'm not sure but I remember when my nanna got close to the end of her life she was hooked on painkillers too - I think her doctors considered it kinder to keep supplying rather than challenge her with a withdrawal when she already had a multiplicity of health issues to deal with and was clearly nearing the end of her journey. It was never clear to me what all the drugs she took was for but I do remember how much angst she displayed over her medications when she was admitted to hospital - classic case of old lady self-medicating - 20years later I recognise some of those drug names in the meds they've given me at times - so pretty heavy-hitting stuff. If you do decide you want to take it further, I would suggest starting with a letter to the practice manager - if they have one (some GPs don't) - alternatively you could contact the Medical Board of Queensland, or even contact the nursing home manager to discuss. I guess it may depend on whether you think you can get a result that will positively affect your Oma and Opa's quality of life, or whether you just want to follow through on the principle of it, ie be clear about what your intent is before you start the process or it could get muddy, kwim? :hug:

Arte, I"m just going to enlarge on my answer in your other thread...I did a teaching placement at a couple of schools with a similar demographic - that's not to say all areas that flag with a lower socio-economic status will be problematic but it does sound like there are serious issues with that particular school. Anyway it was clear to me during my placements how much stress the kids with issues placed on those without issues - not just behavioural disruptions (read = violence) but also learning stresses - when a teacher has several kids in the class who *still* don't know their alphabets after nearly 2 years in school, have parents who can't read/don't feed them/don't even speak the same kind of english as the rest of us (and not due to ethnicity either), the teacher needs to invest so much time and energy into those kids just to impart the most basic literacy/numeracy skills (like which end of the book you start at, or that a 1 and 0 together mean ten and it stands for this many fingers) then the other kids in those classes miss out. I have heard 6 year olds swear so bad it turned my straight hair curly. So I think you are right to be making whatever decisions you need to send W to a better school. :hug:

Thanks for the feedback about the school situation. MD, the situation that you described is pretty much what I am worried about and what seems to be the norm at the school. I wouldn't really care about the decile rating if it was a good school in a poor town, but this school is far from good. Trill, I have heard from relief teachers there that the teachers have very little authority over the children and the bullying policies don't seem to work ie relief teacher saw one kid punch another in the guts so she marched them to the principals office, where the victim was told "you know x has an anger problem, why did you go near him? Stay away from him when he is angry!" and that was it, back to class. Seems wrong to me. And since the Ministry of Education report said they couldn't guarantee the safety of students at the school...
I have called the other school in the next town and if the capping/zoning goes ahead (school doesn't want it but Ministry does), then priority order is: kids in zone, kids out of zone with older siblings attending, children of the teachers and then any other vacancies are filled by ballot drawn by the police. So there is no way to know if he could go there until very close to the time ie no time to relocate. There are no other schools public or private that are within a one hour drive. It is looking likely that we will leave the area if the zoning is introduced.

Arte, well that changes everything! It would be unlikely that if things are that bad now, they aren't going to change unless there is a major overhaul of leadership at the school.

we are very lucky that our local primary school looks like an absolute cracker. locals rave about it and i know two people who went there and loved it. i checked it on the my schools website, even though i think the whole thing is a crock, but i just couldn't help myself. anyway it rated super high so i'm pretty happy about that.

MD: thanks for the info. my reason for complaint is more so for the protection of others. my oma is far too gone now for it to be of any use. they put her through withdrawal several months ago and it went really well and she 'came' back to us, but what with returning to toowoomba i realise it is a no win battle for her. this particular GP has been supplying her with pretty hardcore stuff for close to 15 years now. and then when she was in kingaroy did some really dodgy stuff by filling out scripts in my Opa's name so he could pick it up for her....really gross.

Cass - that's awful, and just so wrong. Sounds like he has forgotten his duty of care a long time ago. I can't believe your Oma was actually off it and he's given it to her again!!! So heartbreaking for you :hug:.

Far out! That is wrong on so many levels :( I think you should still persue it because if he has gone to those lengths with one patient, I imagine he would be doing it with others.

Had the very happy news today that one of my dearest friends is expecting again! Soooo happy, big grin plastered over my very sore face. Have had just a bit too much excitement this week with DD1 breaking her arm...tiny weeny little fracture...just enough to be painful and a bloody inconvenience. Poor kid needs help doing up buttons etc because her thumb is plastered immobile.

LOL MD, we actually saw that Eurovision A-Z and had a sing a long. DH was in control of the remote tonight but it was all good. Saw the end of the doco on SBS where they were relocating the church and it looked like something out of The Goodies the way they were driving it up the road. So how did H break her arm? I hope the pain eases for her soon, poor chook.

been out to a friend's house tonight for fish and chips. they have 2 dd's and were totally on the same page as us in stopping after #2 kid, but tonight we find out they are ttc #3! we're a bit suprised, but happy for them.....i still couldn't get dh to budge on us having 3 though!!!

I"m glad the crack is feeling better G and I hope you are able to wean him soon. My faves are The Bill and Midsomer Murders, but there are a few others I really like too, like Blue Murder and Silent Witness.

The zoning will be in effect for the start of next year if it goes ahead. I don't like our chances of getting W in if it comes to a ballot - there are 6 children in mothers group that are starting at the same time as W and all of them have priority because they have older siblings there already. I am a bit annoyed that there is no provision for homeowners that bought thinking we could access the good school. It seems that we will likely be moving from the area which is an absolute PITA. We have to sell our house in a dead market and then find somewhere to go. DH wants to go south to live near his parents so the children can be around them, but realistically that would mean I would only get to see my family once every year or two and I can't commit to that. I know his parents actually enjoy spending time with the kids and mine don't make any effort, but I don't want to cut them out of my life which is essentially what we would be doing. And the cynical part of me is wondering if he just wants to set up down there so that when our marriage finally crumbles he is where he wants to be and I will be stuck there because of the children.

AFM: we are pretty great here! had a lovely lovely day at the royal zoo. although it is not as animal friendly as say the 'australia zoo' (steve irwin's joint) it was suprisingly nice. the animals looked well enough...although a *bit* bored (which you dont get at the Oz Zoo iykwim). got to see the baby elephant and she had a BIG reunion with the other elephants and with Dad...sooooo cute! Leila LOVED the orangutans. like alot. it was quite the houdini act to get her outta there LOL!
but now am completely shagged and can barely move. this pregnancy is SO different. i can barely walk after a day like that. boo hoo.

Leanne - Congrats on the new addition to the family, they are beautiful dogs and wonderful with children. I love the name Daisy too.

Arte - Oh no you sound really down in the dumps at the moment. I hope you and your DH can work something out?

Ginger - Maybe #3 doesnt seem quite right for you at the moment, but you guys may feel up for it again in a year or two or longer. See what comes of it. To us two kids would work well financially taking into account school fees and not having to upsize in homes, but then stopping at only two doesnt seem quite right to me personally, I would like a big family. I'm sure whatever happens a family will always find a way to make it work.

Thanks girls for the congrats, I am feeling terribly terribly blerrrgh today. Well I have been feeling queasy for two weeks now, but thats as far as it has gone. we went out last night and then out again today to a bbq- big weekend of outings for us but it's been great! both occasions have involved drinking alcohol but the new non-drinking me didn't even have a glass and i have really really enjoyed it! i actually really loved watching people get drunker and drunker today while i stayed sober. it was quite funny and i felt like i got so much more out of the day iykwim?

congratulations Isadora, that is fantastic news. :D I am always amazed by the opposite fallopian tube stories, the body is so cool sometimes.

Arte- life is sounding pretty miserable for you at the moment, hope you are ok and managing to stay afloat. Have you got ANY support at all? You need some sleep.

Ginger- i am wanting to TTC #3 already?! But we will hold off for a bit. with flying back to have it, i need S to be 2 so that both the big kids have a seat paid for IYKWIM. I can't travel on my own with 2 infants. But if i got preg now she'd be 24 months i guess?!?!?!?!?!?! Nah, not just yet, couple more months. I hear you on the schooling thing. I want my kids to go to a private secondary school, but i don't really feel like i can stop at 2 just for that reason, i feel like no matter what we'll sort it out and make do. Maybe i'll do a dip ed and teach at a school to get the staff discount?! Or we could stay in PNG and get their education paid for at any boarding school we like up to $50,000US a year?! Not a bad deal, but i just can't imagine sending my kids to boarding school. Dunno, seems so long away but it will be here before we know it i guess. G, that feeling will always stay no matter whether you have 2 or 5 kids. I still feel like that when I hear of someone getting pg, especially if they are having #5 kwim? But the feeling passes and I think how awesome it is that we aren't in that baby stage anymore. I haven't used the stroller in months, I've gotten rid of all the bottles and assorted crap and I'm passing on all the baby gear to SIL. So its a bittersweet time for me. And yeah, I do remember The Lakes, but I never really got into that one.

Hey JM! Did you get my FB message about the bilum? I love it so much and Erin is trying to pinch it off me LOL. WOW at being able to get boarding school paid for! I just cannot do boarding school, I want them with me. Plus I'm a bit anti private school even though DH went to a boarding school for yrs 7-10. I just can't justify the $20k it would cost a year, but you do get sibling discounts.

Arte - big hugs to you, 12 times in one night is just ridiculous. As an aside, we have had a big improvement in night wakings this last week with turning the TV off completely at 6. She seems to not wake up at all those nights.

Ginger - poor thing with the gastro, hope you're all feeling better now.

Trill - how do you cope without the stroller? I am so not ready to give up ours. DH hurt his back on Friday night and I had to carry missie around the shops on sat morning because he couldn't (he said she'd walk - stupid me for listening to him....) and then we blew the tyre yesterday and I must have said to DH a number of times 'I'm not ready to give up the pram yet' - I think he got the message about getting it fixed.

DH was reading to K last night before bed and he put his arm around her and she said no Daddy, it hurts. Thankfully he got me to check, she had a tick in her shoulder blade! She was so good while he worked out what to do (nurse hotline and internet - pull it straight out with tweezers) and then did it. She is completely fine this morning, no sign of any problems, so glad that we got it before she went to sleep, who knows what it would have been like by the time she woke up. It never occurred to me that she could get one this time of year, especially when she is wearing a long sleeve shirt.

Cally, it must be the right conditions for them - Inanna's DD had one on her eyelid yesterday! Glad you noticed it in time. He is really good with walking and holding my hand now and he really hates being in the stroller so I don't use it. I do have the meitai in the car if I get stuck though and need to carry him.

Arte: :o oh man, that is alot of wake time at night...maannnnn. good friends of ours had this too with their two boys. unfortunately both of the kidlets were sleep resistant...all i can say is that they survived and the two boys are an absolute joy. but it did play a BIG part in their decision to stop at 2. she said that they blew the springs out in their bed from all the rocking. by the time we met them (ages 4 and 9) the kids were perfect sleepers. i dont *think* they had any magic tricks, i think it was just that one day it clicked and the boys started sleeping...

Cally: ouchies! i remember finding a tick on the hairline at the front of my head when i was about 11. and man it hurt, had to get opa to pull it out. but had been there AGES (from what i could gather) as it was dead and flattened...how i didnt notice it before...

AFM: well having another day at home. enjoying it lol! and yep, i SOOO slept well last night, although had the strangest dreams...funnily enough involving my family members morphing into wild animals (penguins and the like) lol.
also, i got a call from my mum today re my Oma, and it now appears that the last stroke has, in a way, relieved her a bit. she has lost her memory and the hossy has diagnosed her with dementia. i know that it sounds weird that it is *kinda* good news; but it has meant that she is no longer on the meds...she can't remember her 'need' to take them and is not in any pain, so her body is getting a rest. also she now believes that i am only 16 etc and still in highschool and she is well, happy. she cant remember all the yuk stuff of her sister passing away 2 years ago and is not in that level of grief and suffering. it is hard on Opa though as it is a big shift for him and in a way she isnt really there. Also, the painful part for me is that she no longer remembers Leila. but again, this is my pain, not hers. and i know that she loved Leila and this is not a reflection of that at all. i am just kinda happy that Leila is too little to realise ITMS. it would be much harder if she was say, 9 years old and having to deal with that...

cass- yeah i started watching silent witness purely cos he is so hot. what's his name again? i forget.

Sorry Trill i did get your message! :redface: Yeah i don't think i can do boarding school. DH went to boarding school and he never went home again iykwim. I don't want me kids to ge so independent of me at such a young age. Not that i want them to be dependent on me, but i'd still like to be able to help them through their teenage years at home iykwim. DH can go months without ringing his parents and only goes there to see them if it is convenient for him! I'd hate my kids to be like that. I went to the most fantastic private school where education was more than just maths and english. I was given all sorts of amazing opportunities and learnt so many life skills, if i can give that to my kids then i would love to. Curious.... why are you anti private schools?

Cally- i had a tick one on my shoulder blade too, i still have a little scar. I got really sick, i think i had some kind of reaction, all the glands on that side of my body swelled up and i was knocked for 6. They thought maybe the head was left in, but i went to the hospital and they couldn't find any evidence that that was the case, so i just went home and sulked in front of the fire for a few days. (we were camping)

Cass- dementia is so hard on everyone. :hug: Good to hear she is in a happier place though.

We got a new couch today. The house here comes furnished and the old couch was pretty trashed. Guess what color it is????? WHITE. :o Are they serious? :wall: anyway, whatever, my little rant for the arvo.

So Lu is toilet trained now (not at night) but she is scared to poo on the toilet. She sneaks outside and poos on the lawn. Any ideas how to encourage her to use the toilet?

I am very open to suggestions for the night wakings, it is getting crazy. Last night there was a queue for my attention. When W came in while I was settling A I suggested he go back to bed and I would be there in a few minutes and he just says "no thanks, I will just wait here for you mum", then he stands quietly beside the bed for 5-10 minutes until A is asleep again. DH can't put him back to bed because he launches straight into a tantrum. A sleeps for the first couple of hours (if I am lucky) and then wakes every hour for the rest of the night. I just want some sleep!

JM, don't know what to suggest about the poo thing (although I did have a little giggle at her sneaking outside). I assume you have tried different systems like a potty or the big toilet seat insert? How is your brother doing now? I have no idea why anyone furnishing a house would provide a white couch! Crazy!

Clare, sorry to hear about your Oma, although it does sound good for her in a way.

Arte - man that's tough

JM - could you try some treats for poos on the toilet (a couple of smarties say)? Maybe the noise scares her, would she be more likely to do it on the potty?

Cass - hugs to you, Oma might not remember Leila now, but I'm sure you have some wonderful pictures of them together and will be able to tell Leila stories about her as she grows up.

Think DD might have a UTI. She did a wee after the shower tonight and cried and said her bottom hurt, but she refused to show us where. When I quizzed her more she said it was a little bit sore on the weekend. Might explain the slightly elevated temperature she has at the moment. Further investigation and questions tomorrow!

Trill - ah, a meitai, that would be very handy I imagine! K is very good at holding hands, but if she's had enough walking time there is no way she will keep walking.

Swimming lessons tomorrow. It's an above ground pool in a big metal shed. Not sure how much longer I can keep hopping in with her before I pass her across to the instructor - 15 degrees when we get out is just too cold!

Cally, I forgot before - you are lucky you can still get her to sit in the pram! W hasn't been in his since just before A was born - he was only staying in for a few minutes and then I was pushing an empty pram around as well as toddler wrangling. He is pretty good though, he walks next to the trolley when we are supermarket shopping and stays close if we venture to actual shops.
The tick must have been scary. DH found a couple on him once, but we had no idea it could be serious so it was a source of hilarity for us all (except DH lol)

Arte: i reckon G is right, DH should go to the spare bed that way it is less disruptive for all itms...ALSO, i dont remember if we have mentioned this before in this thread, but one of the mums in my MG has been on hourly wakeups for her 4 month old. she was pointed in the direction of a chiro for the baby and turns out that she had a slight dislocation of the shoulder, no doubt due to the rather quick labour and delivery (3ish hours woe to go). they have gone in for a few sessions and she reckons it has worked wonders.

Cally: ooohh aahh that does sound a wee bit cold lol. not sure i could cope with those swimming lessons either lol...but i am a wuss with the cold at the best of times.

AFM: we are pretty good here. just spent a bomb at target at the baby and nursery sale :redface: ahhhh DH doesnt need to know lol. but now i have it all sorted! YAY! bought a whole bunch of onesies (25% off), some window socks thingies (30% off) and a whole bunch of those organic thermals (got them for leila and and onesie version for bubba). oh and a whole bunch of newborn singlets, oh yeah, and a flannelette sheet set for Leila and some kids coathangers. pretty awesome, the basics are allll sorted for quite awhile now. they did have 30% off knitwear, but the knitwear didnt feel really nice (ie very synthetic) so decided against, although there were *cute as* designs...
