its so hard not to stress about food isnt it. I mean you love your kids and want them to grow up strong and healthy. But what do you do if they refuse to eat!? I know how hard it can be Gigi...not just with the speechy thing but with the food fussiness as well.
Ella sometimes goes to be having eaten 1 pea. We've tried everything to get her to eat and as a result she knows how important it is for us and uses food to control her world.
I hope this new speechy helps.
Keep it up Tara. Chino will get it soon. ;)
Hope everyone is having a good weekend. We're heading to the beach tomorrow.

Have a great day at the beach Ann!
I think I mentioned before that I was reading that you're not supposed to "force" your toddler to sit at the table until everyone has finished eating and so on...whoops. i always thought it was good manners!
Evie goes to bed not having eaten too. mainly because i refuse to follow her around shovelling food in. if she's not going to sit and eat then i tell her that thats all there is until weetbix in the morning, which is a looooooong way away. to be honest. ive never noticed a difference in how she sleeps based on how much she has for dinner.
Last night with weaning was a bit better. still up a lot but at least i could sit in the chair while he was asleep in my arms. when i tried that the night before he thought i was sitting to feed him so got upset. so i carried him round in circles in the bedroom for hours :( 5ft nothing mummies are not made to carry 11kg babies around indefinitely lol
-
Evie started screaming that her mouth hurt at dinner tonight and when i looked in her mouth there were ulcers on her tongue and inside her bottom lip. then she was saying she was cold altho her fever was growing by the minute...i dont know what to think
-
are you NIGHT weaning Chino Taralee, or weaning him altogether? how is it going?
Do you have a parent helpline (staffed by nurses) to ring? describe how Evie is, maybe they could tell you if you should drive to your nearest hosp, or get an ambulance or whatever. Ulcers sound painful.
bilby and i saw a new speech therapist on Thursday (with our usual Speechie there too). The new person specialises in eating difficulties in children. She was WONDERFUL. Recognised the problems immediately, came out with practical things for us to try, and tried some on bilby within the session. It all seems to come down to "operant conditioning". I studied first year psychology at uni, we had to do this experiment. Train a rat to push a bar. Every time they push the bar, they get a pellet of food. Same deal with bilby. Every time she obeys a command, i blow bubbles.
so, we sit down at the table, with a food she normally won't even TRY, let alone EAT.
i say "bilby, if you pick up the strawberry, i'll blow some bubbles for you
she picks up strawberry
i blow bubbles
she cottons on very fast, to do what is asked, then she gets somethign fun (the bubbles)
so we progress to
smell the strawberry
put the strawberrry to your lips
give the strawberry a kiss
have a tiny bite of the strawberry
have a bigger bite of the strawberry
and you do this with ONE food each meal time.
i tried it tonight, not very enjoyable way for me to eat, but it worked, she tried food she normally won't try.
it doesn't matter if she tries food and doesn't like it.
before she just wouldn't try fullstop
at least now, she has a chance to discover things she DOES like.
so it's a long process and needs preparation before each meal, work during the meal, but if it means her trying some new foods, it's worth it.
(plus cleaning up the mess on the floor, of the bubble mixture, before anyone slips on it).
there are other steps, but that is the main one, "operant conditioning".

Wow Gigi, thats fabulous!!! Getting her to try anything is definately better than nothing! sounds like youre on to something with this new therapist! its about time things started falling into place for you and bilby.
evies still has a big ulcer and a bit of a temp but seems happier, so i might wait and see how she goes.
ive weaned chino completely, and he is sleeping better at night. i was only up 4 times last night and 2 the night before. but at leasst when he does wake its only for 20mins or so not hours like before AND im getting him to sleep in his own bed which is also a plus. except if he wakes anytime after 3 then hes up for a while and needs a drink of rice milk. am going to the GP tomorrow to check on his calcium and protein levels and make sure he's getting enough.
thanks for asking gigi ;)
-
thats awesome gigi!!!! she'll be eating in no time!! so glad the new therapist is great!!
tara ouch on the ulsers :( sounds like hand foot and mouth, sophie had it last year or the year before  they get ulsers inthe mouth and on the lips, she had some very faint spots on her feet and legs, started with a high temp, maybe google it

theres not much you can do for it tara, just panadol, the good thing is that she wont get it again!! though chino might :(
-
Gigi so glad everything is starting to work out for oyu - TBH I am thinking of trying the bubbles thing too. Jake at least eats but it is a very narrow list of stuff!
Oh Tara I hated HFM when Jake had it. Panadol or nurofen helps to take away the swelling too and ice blocks & yoghurt. big hugs for you xx
I am probably going to jinx myself here but SOphia is going well. Moved into her big cot on Monday and has only been waking once per night and she manages to settle herself at least half the time. Day sleeps are still a challenge some days but we are getting there. I can't remember the first 6mths of Jake's life so when she starts doing things I have nothing but blurr to compare it too and I was too exhausted and overwrought to recoed anything.
Hope all are well xxxx

Hi Everyone
Tara that sux about HFM.
Im still around just waiting now. My mum has come to stay with us for 4wks to help out with the boys so Im really glad about that as Im not sure how we would cope.
Will try and keep in touch more
Bye for now

Nelly, that's great that Sophia has transitioned to the cot so well.
i totally nod my head when you say about the newborn blur, i felt that way too. (bilby woke every two hours for the first 20 months). I get the guilts sometimes for not recording many of her "firsts", and my nb photos of her are so fuzzy, i was not with it enough to even work the camera correctly. And at the time, dh would not take my word for it, that without the flash, all the photos on that camera would blur. And i was relying on him to take photos at that time.
Nicola, that's wonderful that your mum has come to help with your older two, i hope that is a weight off your mind, so you can concentrate on birthing your newest.
Taralee - bad luck on Evie having HandFootMouth, i have no idea how you get that, but it gets mentioned quite a bit, i gather its common in our children's age group. Has she still got high temps tonight?
