Fissure (maybe TMI)

Hi Yael,

I know this thread is really old, but I wanted to ask for a bit of help.

I am looking for a specialist that does the Botox treatment for anal fissure you mentioned, as my GP doesn't know one.

I was hoping you could point me in the right direction for the one you used.

I agree Chris2010, this thread might be old but as I just had my first child and am now suffering from an anal fissure, this thread was helpful. I'm already doing most of what has been suggested, but nice to know I am not suffering alone and that it does clear up...eventually!

I had my 6 week post baby obgyn app today and he was so great about the anal fissure, he told me to drink heaps and heaps of water and eat fibre rich diet and that they usually they clear up on their own, but if its too painful and goes on too long he will refer me to a bottom surgeon and get it fixed up. He didn't even make me feel like a freak!

Do you have an Obgyn Chris2010, maybe they can recommend an appropriate health professional, like a rectal surgeon who may do (or at least know of) the botox treatment.

Just wanted to join the 'anal fissure' club too!:p
Mine is feeling ok these days, because I'm on Coloxyl (stool softener) tablets. Every time I stopped taking them, I'd bleed again, so I'm not going to stop for a while this time. It has been 6 months since the birth of my DD.
No one talks about stuff like this! i.e. As being a common side effect of childbirth.
It is a very depressing condition.

Joining this thread also, man oh man am i in pain!!!! im in tears everytime i go to the bathroom it feels like someone is spliting me in half :O off to the specialist tonight let's see what he says.

Good luck mate. Let us know how you go. My GP was very unhelpful in giving me any idea of whether I might be a candidate for surgery, and I haven't seen a specialist yet.

I stumbled on this thread by accident but am glad now as i now realise that what i have is an anal fissure not haemmaroids! As i understand it, anal fissures are little tears in the skin of the anus that re-open each time you pass a hard stool. Is this an accurate description of the condition? From what other ladies have said, especially the references to passing glass, this sounds like what i have had. It was bad a few weeks back but seems to have sorted itself out for now. I know what it is like to fear the loo too.

Is this what anal fissures are?
