    Default Dentist when pregnant?

    Is it safe?
Are some procedures ok and others not?
    What is/is not ok?
Does it depend on which trimester you are in?

    TIA

Cleans and checkups are ok throughout pregnancy (I just had one today!). Actual procedures though I'm not sure.

Most dental treatment is absolutely fne to have, although I would avoid x-rays. You can safely have local anaesthetics if you need them too.

I saw them when I was about 15 weeks along and they were ok - they just didn't do X-rays or use the fluoride when doing the clean.

I have shocking teeth that get worse during pg. I needed one out in first trimester this time and the dentist and surgeon wouldn't do it as they said there were risks to baby's development. My ob said it was better to have the tooth attended too.

When I was pg with dd I had a tooth out in third trimester without incident

I had all my wisdom teeth out under GA when 5 weeks pg with DS. I didn't realise at the time as I did a pg test the day before & it was a false -ve. Anyway, as soon as I realised I was pg I freaked out, and rang the anaethetist, dentist & gp who all assured me it would all be ok. They said they probably wouldn't have gone ahead if I had known though. I did tell them we were TTC beforehand as well so they could choose pg safe drugs & I didn't take painkillers other than panadol & nurofen after. My DS was fine

    Default Dentist when pregnant?

I started my root canal when I was just a few days pregnant and had had a false negative test... Anyway was due to have the follow up appointment a couple if weeks later and the dentist preferred to wait until after baby is born. My Ob however said it would have been fine, I guess it depends on the actual practitioner.

Most stuff is fine. I had to have lots of X-rays, and the radiation from dental X-rays is very very minimal, and not directed at the abdomen. They used to put 2 lead aprons on me just to be safe.

Can you call a qld equivalent of mothersafe to check your specifics?

I'm not sure what I'll need, possibly a root canal (a dentist pulled an infected tooth and said that the one on the opposite side was heading the same way if I didn't do something about it ASAP), at the very least a couple of fillings.

ETA- I do have more than 2 teeth. LOL I meant the tooth opposite the one she pulled.

How far along are you? (I'm on the ph). I had a tooth pulled this pregnancy (my teeth go to dust when I'm pregnant). My dentist sent me to a surgeon purely because of my dental phobia. He was reluctant to do it at the time because I was 5 weeks and wanted to wait to 10 weeks. It was done around 11 weeks because of timing. My ob told me it would have been fine to get it done earlier with just local. Have a chat to the dentist and see what they want to do. I've had no issues with my pregnancy as a result of my teeth. Baby is just fine. And dd was fine after having a tooth out when I was preg with her too.

My dentist won't do X-rays if you are preggers or breastfeeding.

I'm not, just started TTC, and had a sudden thought about what the dentist said, thought I should check. Really don't want to put TTC on hold again, it'll be ages before I can get into the dentist. Unless I can convince the doctor to give me some free dental care.
