Yes, DS1 has braces. All up its $5800 (braces $5300 then lower retainer $250 and upper retainer $250) but then we have extras cover so we get some back with PH.
This is for treatment over 2-3 years.
I know of others who are paying a bit more...their treatment might be a little more involved though.
DSD1 has them currently. Cost about $6500 but DP gets about $2k back on private health for his half share.
DSD2 will need them too at about same cost.
DS1 may miss out because his teeth are looking pretty good at age 10.5.
DS2 needs them (age 8). Haven't got a quote yet.
My braces and ortho treatment was $10.5k in 1996-1998 but was with a top orthodontist who only took the hard cases. I had a 1.2cm overbite. My wisdoms came through fine though. My brother's cost a bit more but he had jaw reconstruction surgery as well. He had a narrow upper jaw and wider lower jaw plus extractions.
My daughter will need ortho. We have been quoted just under $8K for treatment taking around 2 years. Unfortunately, she doesn't have any lateral incisors so once her ortho is done we are looking at maryland bridges at a cost of approximately $4K and when she is old enough, implants at a cost of approx $15K plus inflation!!
I had full ortho done around 10 years ago now, plate, removals (interestingly 2 baby teeth removed at 25), widening, braces, plates and it was around $10k. Interesting it hasn't changed so much. I remember being so horrified at the small limit on phi that is lifetime limits.
Yikes! DD2 was just referred to an Orthodontist for braces this morning. My dentist said it would cost at least $5,000. We don't have PHI anymore. I'm scared.
