Question for those who Vax'd up to 12 months

For those PRO vax, did you get the chicken pox vax for your child? I delayed it with my first, now 3, and wondering if i should bother at all... and its coming up for my second, so thinking if i do them i will do them at the same time.

Just wondering from those who followed the standard immunisation schedule to 12 months, did you do the chicken pox one as well?

I havent done it yet. I keep meaning to but it hasnt happened yet... and he is about to turn 2.
I delayed all of them by a few months and this one seems less relevant to me - so i guess i havent been too fussed about having it done. I do plan to though (and i need to for daycare).

I haven't done the chicken pox vaccination for my daughter. She's had everything up to that.
I've heard, I can't say its true, that its fairly low effective rate and there has been occurrences where a vaxed child has got it twice. And if you consider that normally you get once and are done with it, I opted not for the vaccination.
As a kid I remember having sleepovers etc at friends houses when they had the chicken pox so it could be spread around.

I've been meaning to find out other peoples thoughts on the chicken pox vaccine too.. Sorry if I'm hi-jacking.

Yep. Both Jett and Ripley had it. No reactions or side effects. No chicken pox here either and we've been exposed twice.

To be honest, I have zero problem with vaccinations and vaccinating my kids so it wouldnt even cross my mind to skip any. I had chicken pox as a kid pretty badly, and so did my siblings (my sister got it twice, with both times it ending up in her throat, vagina and nose! Extremely painful for a 5yo.); if Id have had the option to be vaccinated for it so that I might not have got it so bad I would have jumped at the chance.

I probably wouldnt bother with L having it now but if I were in your position I would do A if he is due.

Rather not go in to the pros and cons, if you don't mind, people get rather heated about pro & non vax, and i just haven't go the head space for that at the moment

I was exposed as a 5 year old, had it mildly, got it severely as a 12 year old. My dh had it severely as an adult, so we're keen to avoid them having it if possible.

So do you think its a good idea i do them at the same time? or would you do them separately? Ds1 will be 3.5 and Ds2 will be 1.5.

I got DS vaxed for varicella and will do so for DD and any subsequent children when they get to 18 months. DS suffered no adverse reaction at all. I was only just pregnant with DD when DS was 18 months so I didn't get him vaxed until after my first trimester on the advice of the MCHN but that only was a couple of months late.

I didn't get chicken pox till I was 15 years old and I remember the discomfort vividly. My mum was the only one who'd had chicken pox as a child but she had to nurse me, my brother (11 years old) and my sister (13 years old) and then my Dad through it. Poor Dad was in his 40s and it was really quite severe, he had blisters inside his mouth. I was the only one who escaped without some facial scarring from the blisters.

I am hoping I will save my kids from a similar experience.

Yeah I did....only cause DH has never had them and if he ever brought them home from day care or anything like that I would hate for DH to get them!! He is bad enough to look after when he has the flu, could you imagine him with CP!! Lol.

Yes we did but not on time. Ds was sick on and off for a few months so he eventually had it a month or so ago.

If you want to get L done and could possibly handle two cranky kids for a day then Id do them together.

Um for the reasons anna mentioned! 2 grizzly kids!

Though my 1 year old didn't bat an eyelid at his 12 month vax, didn't cry, nothing! Though my 3 year old is much more aware of the concept of pain so i'll have to prepare him for it.

Well then, i say two grizly kids for a short period of time is better than one and then the other! But that of course is a personal preference.
I think the older they get, the harder the needles are for mum!!

I followed the standard vax routine but refused the chicken pox one due to info I had read... I was not and am still not sure on it IYKWIM!!!

we will vax him for it when he turns 13 if he hasn't had it before then ITH!!! I beleive it only last 8-10 years anyway so revax for adulthood is recomended anyway...

I haven't for DD2 yet - mostly because she was 18 mths in the middle of my cancer diagnosis and it kind of got forgotten for a bit - then because I'm having chemo the live vaccine thing isn't a good idea. Will be getting it done in about a month's time.

Reasons - I have seen photos of an unvax'd child with so many chicken pox lesions you could barely see skin. It IS a dangerous disease. I had my DD1 vax'd around 4 (had to pay, it was before it was added to the schedule) and it's possible she had a single ep of break through chicken pox (lesions in her mouth - still unclear if it was that or first outbreak of cold sores virus which they can also get as sores in the mouth) but still better in my mind than the full blown illness. I remember how sick and uncomfortable I was when I had it at 4 years old.
