    Silent reflux?

Hi there, I've come across the term Silent Reflux a few times on BB and was wondering if someone could tell me a bit more about it. My DS is chronic vomiter, we go through at least 4 bibs a day, countless spew cloths and at least a couple of changes of clothing. But I am positive he doesn't have reflux as there is never any pain or distress associated with feeding or the vomiting. As he gets older he just seems to bring up more and more, and he will often still be vomiting when it comes time for his next feed. I've been putting it down to him just being a pukey baby or that he may just over eat (he's bf) but then I saw someone mention silent reflux on another thread and it got my mind ticking over... So it would be great if someone could tell me a bit more about the condition... TIA

Basically silent reflux is reflux with no vomit - therefore there are no obvious "symptoms" as you get with reflux, hence the silent part.

If he is vomiting - then its most likely reflux.

Miss M had silent reflux - and did not vomit.

Thanks for filling me in Arimeh, I was way off! I think he must just be a vomiter because everyone keeps telling me that if it is reflux you will know because he will get upset during and after feeding and not sleep which he doesn't do, rather he is the opposite, the only time he cries is when he wants to be fed. Anyway, I am seeing my GP on Tues and plan to take him in to get weighed this week so might quiz the doc and mchn again...

Yeah he might just be a happy chucker You definitely know if its reflux, they do pull away from you, they make disgusted faces as if they have just tasted something awful (which really - they have!) they cry during feeds, they usually have a habit of waking up after 5 minutes of sleeping, they pull their knees up to their chest alot - its a whole heap of fun!! (not!!)

I'm pretty sure "happy chucker" is the technical term....

    Hi Miss E,

I also have a 'Happy chucker"! My little boy has exactly the same symptoms, vomit everywhere but is very happy. I was interested to see what your doctor said?

Hi Kyles, doc basically said not to worry about it because his weight gain etc is good and he is a happy healthy little boy. I've been told that he should grow out of it, but he's nearly 5 months and still chucking heaps... I tell you I can't wait for the day when I don't have deal with vomit!
