Smile HPT - can you trust their accuracy?

    Hi all
Its been awhile since I was on here. Hubby & I went thru 18mths of IVF from 2006 & have been riding the adoption rollercoaster for the last 12mths. Anyway, I don't have a regular cycle as such & it has been 85 days since Day 1 of my last period. I did a HPT today and it came back as a very fast & strong positive. Given our history, I am hesitant to believe this (as much as I would be soooooo excited if its true) and have made an appt to see the Dr tommorrow.
Are these HPT's really that accurate? It says 99%+ on the box, but I just don't know if I could be that lucky?

Congrats, it sounds pretty good to me!

I believe that false positives are extremely rare in HPTs. My GP said that they don't usually bother with urine tests to confirm pregnancy now as a positive HPT is a positive HPT!

    Good luck with your journey!!

Being so fast, and strong, I'd say you are pregnant.......

What brand babe?... Some are well known for false positive, but with feint lines, not good strong ones.....

My gp told me that there was no need for further testing once a hpt is positive. They are usually accurate enough!
I'm sure your gp will do further testing for further confirmation for you, but I'm pretty sure your UTD!! Congratulations!

Thanks everyone! Here's hoping it is true. I turn 30 in 2 weeks & this would be the best birthday pressie ever!! I used a Crystal Clear HPT, which I have read give many false positives, but it just seemed to react so quickly.....anyway, time will tell. How am I going to sleep?!

I would say its a definite darling - congratulations!!!

False positives usually occur when there is some confusion over weather a line is a line is a line.

Your line came up bingo and bright.

    You my love are pregnant!!!!!

Do you have any inkling how pregnant you could be?

I haven't slept hardly a wink. Between being excited, scared, anxious, hoping that the test at Dr shows same results!!!! Inanna, I don't really have a clue how preggers I would be. I know today is Day 86 since Day 1 of last period, so if that's where its counted from its 12 weeks+. My "cylces" this year ranged from 40 - 60 days and everything in between, so don't have a clue when ovulation would have occurred either!
Aaagghh!!! Come on 11am so i can get this sorted (or at least on the track to sorted). I am guessing I will have another pee test & then probably a blood test too.

Oh wow - how wonderful! I'd say it's looking pretty good!

Dr will probably send you off for an ultrasound too. Hope it's all wonderful news!

You'll probably go for an ultrasound to find out how far you are (IF its +ve of course, but I'm pretty sure it is) Then they'll be able to give you a reasonably accurate due date.
So excited for you! I'm getting impatient for 11am!! lol

    I agree with everyone else.

A strong fast positive is a positive. True false positives are virtually impossible with HPT. Where the false positives come from is where people are seeing evap lines or similar.

    Roll on 11:00. Good luck.

    Oooh wow - how exciting!!!

I agree with the others - the only way you could get a good strong line & it be a false positive is if you were taking any drugs such as pregnyl etc - but it seems as though you haven't taken anything since TTC with IVF for at least 12 months

Wow! I hope 11am comes around extra quickly - good luck!!!
