    Breakfast (26 months old)

    hi there
DS1 is generally a fantastic eater... though i have noticed in the last few weeks he is becoming a bit more 'fussy' - all part of being 2 years old i guess...
Anyway, he has never really been into breakfast. i was ok with this before but now i do noticehim having distinct 'lows' in energy and i would like himto eat a proper breakfast. we have tried lots of different things - and we eat with him
sometimes he has a bit but notmuch...
on weekends he loves to go out for brunch and will wolf down eggs, tomato, mshrooms etc. has never really been into toast
    IDEAS please!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he goes to creche 4 days a week so just delaying bfast til later isnt an option or a bigger morning tea (he has morning tea there and has a lot) and he eats a good lunch and dinner too...

During the week my DS just eats 2 weetbix with milk and a bottle of milk. On the weekend he also likes having eggs. I make up an omlette with cheese, tomato, bacon/ham and cook it up. It looks more like a fritatta than a crepe IYKWIM.

Being during the week I understand you're pressed for time. You can make up a boil in the bag omlette by putting the mixture into a snack size ziplock bag and boiling it in the morning until it is cooked - maybe around 5 minutes. This way you can make it up the night before and then just cook it up in the morning.

Porridge is a great thing for brekky. My nearly 2 yr old eats porridge, rice bubbles, weet bix or pretty much whatever her brothers are having

Pikelets? Make up a batch and freeze them and take out the night before what you need. Use wholemeal flour for a healthier meal and you can add fruit too ie grated apple, berries etc

DD doesn't tend to eat much at brekkie time either - she has it with her dad at 7ish before he goes to work, but at most, it's half a piece of toast or half a weetbix. I then give her morning tea around 9.45-10, and she'll eat either 2bits of raisin toast, or a weetbix with fruit - so at least double what she eats for brekkie. I just think that she's obviously not as hungry at brekkie time, and make up for it at morning tea.
So maybe giving a bigger morning tea is the way to go. I know you said he's at creche 4 mornings, but maybe if you had a chat with them and mentioned that because he doesn't have much of a brekkie, could he have more at morning tea. I'm sure their flexible. Could you maybe change your morning routine, and leave having breakfast till just before leaving the house - that way he might be hungrier?

    hi there
They will always give him as much as he wants at creche so that isnt really a problem - i am more concerned that he has an energy dip bc he doesnt eat in themornings - more just management of his 'fuel' rather than that he doesnt get enough food overall iykwim. that said he has become a lot more fussy of late so i would want to watch that he is still eating well the rest of the time.
I have tried so many things - diff cereals, making smoothies, yoghurt and fruit, pikelets, toast, french toast, porridge etc. i think he just doesnt like to eat in the morning... at the moment we make 'milkshakes' with fruit and milk and yoghurt... these he will usually have most of one (what age could i add a raw egg). i wish he woul dhave weetbix or porrdige. i am happy to make eggs for him in the morning but i dont think he will consistently eat them - might try tomorrow.

If you have tried absolutely everything then I would just accept that he is not a big morning person eater. I think chn are much more attuned to their needs and bodies than we adults and he would take in what he needs. My DD is opposite, big breakfast, medium lunch and then hardly anything for dinner! As long as you offer him food it is up to him whether he eats it or not.

    :yeahthat:
DD is the same! Sometimes I make her melted cheese on toast and she loves it. I must say I do find breakfast is the easiest thing to give her... When it comes to lunch and dinner she'll barely eat a single thing!

MP - could you try adding some weetbix to his milkshake? Then he would get some from that.

DD is not a big brekky person either. She insists on a small tub of yogurt immediately upon waking and will sometimes have 2. Sometimes she will have fruit as well. I send her along with weetbix to daycare and she will sometimes eat that (depends if her little boyfriend is there that day if she eats it or not as he has always had brekky there). I've had success a few times offering weetbix around 8:30 or 9 if she wants something to eat then (I made it the only option so that might have impacted!!). This morning she alternated between me and DH and consumed a significant amount of our weetbix, so you might find that N is more interested in what you and DH are eating. She's never been into toast either, although is a fan of the thick raisin toast and will eat that.

Thanks for the ideas - it sounds crazy but I have tried most of these! I am really stuck!! When I added weetbix to his milkshake he rejected it and said it was 'icky' LOL
I agree they will eat enough I am more concerned with his energy low later
Have just made some oat apple and date muffins so hoping they won't be rejected!
