I was wondering what financial compensation you are entitled to as a foster carer?

Obviously I don't want to do it for the money but DH and I are not wealthy by any means and I was wondering if we could afford to do it.

We are currently TTC, but if that doesn't work we will look at fostering. DH is studying for the next 2 years and if we fell pg and I left my job to be a SAHM we would be entitled to family tax benefits, rent assistance, austudy for DH etc. Which, with our savings, would be enough to live on were I to take extended maternity leave and/or quit my job. I was wondering if we would get similar benefits with fostering?

Also, do you need to be a SAHM to foster or can you work at the same time? Sorry, if these are silly questions, but we're just starting out at looking at this.
