My husband and I have been TTC for 2 years without success and have now decided that the best option for us is adoption. We would like to adopt from Thailand and have recently submitted our 'Expression of Interest' form. After calling for 4 straight weeks I was told that the processes, in Victoria, are under review and have been for 6 months and was placed on a very long waiting list.
Is there any advice from anyone who has adopted in Victoria or might be going through the same process at the moment. I feel very let down at the moment. I haven't been able to get any answers as to the processes we are to face or when their processes will be finalised.
I would like to contact someone else going through this process, however am not sure how to give you my personal e-mail without listing it. Please let me know how I can go about this as it would be much appreciated.
Hi Belle
Sorry its been so long for me to reply, but I just stumbled upon your post today and I'm sure I was a member of this forum while I was doing IVF years back, but havent really been keeping up with it since we decided to stop IVF.
My husband and I are in VIC and are adopting from Thailand. We started our LONG journey late last year with our Information Session and it took at just over year before we were approved. Now we have to wait for next years Quota before we can send our file to Thailand.
I was surprised to hear about the problems you're having, and that there is a long waiting list. Well, maybe I shouldnt be surprised. When we went to the info session there were 200 people there, but we sent in our EOI straight away and we received paperwork (LOTS of Paperwork) about a month later.
If I've learned anything, its to be paitient. I cant believe how long it takes for anything to be done. Most of the people who work there work part time, and I dont know why, if they're so busy....
Anyway, I dont have any words of wisdom, just wanted to let you know you can ask anything, but I cant really help you with the long waiting list you speak of. I'd suggest just keep on ringing.
Hi Yodels
Thank-you for your e-mail. We finally received a response and attended the information session a few weeks ago. We too submitted our EOI the day after, however still no news. Although I have called it has been difficult to get to speak to someone because they are all there part time. We don't have a chance of being on next years list for Thailand, but possibly 2009 or 2010. The numbers trying to adopt have grown significantly but we have applied and will try IVF in the interim as it is likely that we will wait two years before our documents are submitted to either of the countries we have requested.
Hi Belle
Its great you finally heard something and got to the information sessions. I'm sure it was about a month before we heard something back, at least a month, it seems to take that long to hear anything back.
Good luck with it all.
