With adoption, parents are given full parental rights including medical and so if you got that far there would be no difference between a child come to your family through adoption or birth.

The definition and guidelines differs between States for Permanent care and i'm not sure how it works in WA.

I have looked at the guidelines for both Vic and WA and haven't found anywhere where religion would rule out a couple adopting. In adoption, the birth family often have input in to which adoptive family is chosen, and having a religion could be seen as beneficial to a birth family that wanted their child to grow up with religion.
