Thanks for that info! It says all you need is English to get in as the pre-req. I will put that course as my second choice after Southern Cross University down at Tweed.

Sara, yeah I thought the same as you when I read the subjects. ACU has a few more of the general nursing subjects in their course don't they?

Mummasupha, what have i missed about Southern Cross Uni at Tweed??? Are they having BMid???


HJ, that's awesome that you've enrolled in your TPP. There is no rank/OP showing cause it's a new course and so the OP/Rank cut-off won't be determined until after the first round offers go out.

Yes SCU is planning on offering a Bachelor of Mid at Tweed HEads in 2010! They've been really helpful even though they don't have a lot of the info about the course together yet. Call them and then when they have the info it will get sent out to you. Will let you know if I hear of anything new in the mean time

Mamasupha, Cool :) I had a quick look on the SCU website last night and saw it there. Pitty there isn't much info up about the subjects and program structure etc yet. I'll give them a call on Tuesday for sure! I am at Northern end of the GC so I'm probably pretty much half way between Tweed and Logan

Spice - So am I (living up the northern end of the coast!) , but my daughter will be going to school down the southern end, so think that will be a good option for me providing the course will be a good sound one!

I just rang Griffith Uni and happened to find out that they are having an info night tomorrow for the Nursing/Midwifery courses. The course convenor etc will be there to answer any questions. It's form 5.30Pm to 7.30Pm at the Meadowbrook (Logan) campus and it will be held in the library foyer and up in lab L05, or somethign like that.

I'm really going to try and get there but prob wouldn't make it thee much before 6.30pm.

Anyone else interrested???

Spice - thanks soooo much for letting us know! i REALLY want to go - but DH wont get home till bout 6ish and than by the time i get there it will prob be nearly over!
I would take Miss B with me but she has the sniffles and isnt too well and i dont want to take her out in the cold!
Im going to "try" and see if i can get someone to mind her tho! dont like my chances - but i REALLY want to go!

Well I made it there. Unfortunatley I missed out on speaking to jenny gamble because I didn't get there til 6.30 but I did get to speak to the Mid Co-ordinator - Dianne Tamariki. She was lovely. The course sounds just so awesome and it's the only BMid course that teach it's students canulation and suturing as part of the degree. It also focuses a lot on homebirth, contineum of care midwifery and waterbirth. From what I understand basically you start each semester with 2-3 weeks of intensive learning at the uni then you are pretty much are based at a hospital and in community settings. In first semester you start with the intensive then you have 3 follow through journeys and a few assignments and exams. In second semester after the intensive phase you spend 2 days a week at the hospital.

Ooooh, it sounds sooo exciting. Now we all just have to get in! There will be 50 places in the first year of BMid.

Now I just have to find out about the SCU course and decide , it seems neverending!

Their 3 participating hospitals are Logan, Redlands and Gold Coast. And they try to place you closest to where you live but cannot guarantee it. But they also said that if you can organise placement elsewhere or with a homebirth midwife etc they would consider that also.
