Nursing/Midwifery

Hey ladies
Im currently looking at studying midwifery...can you do this via correspondence? Or can you only do it through select universities?
Otherwise i can study Div 1 and 2 in the local area and then move on to midwifery.
Still thinking it over at the moment so any information and finger pointing in the right direction anyone could give me would be great

I don't know about mid being by correspondence, or the full course at least, maybe some units though. What you do depends on where you want to work post graduation. Doing the midwifery course means only working in midwifery I think, whereas if you did the Division 1 and then did your post grad in midwifery you can work anywhere plus you can work and get paid as a div 1 while doing your post grad.

I did my nursing at La trobe Bendigo and then 4 years later did my Mid at VUT st albans.

Not sure if it can be done yet by correspondance in vic they were looking at it as SA do it.

Bachelor of mid is not at many uni's and all are in melb I think, La trobe Bendigo did have double degree not sure if they still do or not.

Curtin uni in perth started a bachelor of mid a couple of years ago, hope it is still running

The dual degree is offered at LTU Bundoora.

I would recommend searching VTAC but at the moment their coursesearch is disabled... It seems it is now only available at times when application are open whereas it used to be available all the time!

In Victoria you can do straight Mid through Monash (Peninsula or Gippsland), Vic Uni (St Albans) and ACU (Melb CBD) or Nursing/Mid through La Trobe (Bundoora) or Deakin (all campuses)...all on campus though which sucks. I reckon doing nursing in your local area then doing post grad Mid is a great idea.

You CAN do it by correspondance at Uni SA

BUT

you have to go to Adelaide for placements and stuff. I emailed them about this awhile ago hth

The only distance course is offered through the University of South Australia and to my knowledge as of the next intake they will no longer be taking interstate students as it is too difficult for them to find/allocate placements.
