Next year I am either going to be studying Midwifery or Nursing in South Australia. I am not confident about getting into Midwifery based on my year 12 results so I am trying to decide which Uni I will study Nursing at if I dont get in to Midwifery.
If anyone has any experiences with UniSA or Flinders and could help me make a decision I would really appreciate it!! I will be studying full time and internally.
Thanks
It depends on what you want out of your Uni and degree as to which Uni you pick. Did you go to the Open Days? You are definately doing the right thing asking people how they found their Uni's.
I studied at UniSA (externally) but enjoyed it. When I was looking at Uni's (which seems like an eternity ago), I found out by asking different nurses that the focus at Flinders is on patient care (i.e. had more placements and really drove in on caring for the patient) where as UniSA is more academic. Having said that, UniSA changes its program every 3 years (not sure if Flinders do the same) and now have more clinical hours than when I went through. But having friends who are currently enrolled at UniSA, I can say they are still very academically focused as when I went through. Before you panic - that doesn't mean you have to be a genius to go there or pass.
I also heard a lot of crap when I was a student about graduates from one University being preferred over the other... and let me just tell you now that that is absolute bull dung. I've never seen anything to suggest that little paddy had any merit
thanks for the info it was good help, I had decided I would choose UniSA but now I dont need to choose because I got into midwifery at UniSA!! So excited!!
