With choosing my course, I have to admit I actually decided on what I wanted to do, opposed to what I thought I could use. Not terribly practical but I wanted to do something that interested me so I would see it through IYKWIM. I don't think that by the time I complete my course (4 year course but doing it part-time - so 8 -12 years?) I'll be looking to change career. Is there anything else you're interested in, Willow, that might give you practical skills to work from home anyway?
-
Not that I have thought of yet Sushee!!
I have thought about doing law in the past but at this point in my life (or any point thus far really! LOL) it's too big a commitment for me to make. That's always been my problem, I'm not willing to make the commitment that studying requires.
The thing with the conveyancing course is it's short term, only 2 years to complete part time (well it's not really part time, it's run through the Open Learning Centre of Macquarie) although I'm thinking of only doing one unit per semester to start with - this is mainly for financial reasons. The positive of doing it next year while I'm on maternity leave is that I'll be able to balance my time better but the negative is with me not working, we can probably only afford for me to do one unit per semester.
I've just been on their website and applications for Semester 1 don't close until January so I've got plenty of time to think about it.
-
I would love to do law too, but its such a long course and there is so much reading!
I have been checking out the masters I want to do, and none of the subjects start until next year so it'll be probably at least feb til I would start.
In the meantime I'm trying to get a job closer to the area I want to work in (IT forensics) well I can dream can't I? :)

I've just sat the STAT today! Stupid people strted it late. It was alright. Some of the questions were quite tricky but overall it wasnt tooo bad. I dont think I did that well though. I'm terrible at the english questions! I was so distracted by the end of it though because I hadnt fed in a few hours and my left boob was strting to leak!!! Apparently thy send the results in a couple of weeks.
-
Yay Karina! Very proud of you. I am sure you did well. Goodluck, and let us know your results!
-
I sat my STAT on Saturday, I just want to know how I did!! That would at least put me in the right frame of mind for the offers. I seemed to answer all the questions (although there was one I know I did terribly in ,I just hope my guesstimate were ok). All in the hands of the Gods now!! Does anyone know if the applicant is informed of there results and how long does it take?
Waiting was never one of my strong points
-
WTG Karina and Bec G. I got my results exactly 2 weeks and 6 days after I sat my test. It was a reeeeaaally long wait to get my results but you may be pleasantly surprised - I did better than I thought I did, I reckon you guys will too. We're our own worst critics! Good luck you two!
-
I'm half way through a B.Teaching (primary & secondary) at Deakin in Melbourne. I've done the primary part, and for the next two years (part time) it's back to high school for me.
Rayray - with your tax deductions, there are sections in the tax return for various deductable fees and books and things.

Aww thanks Jo and Sushee!
Bec, i did my STAT in NSW and they said that they send my results to me about 3 weeks after I do the test. Only just under two more weeks to go, lol! I am hoping to recieve it sooner though becuse I really really want to know how I did!
I did a few guestimates too, for one in particular that I couldnt be bothered to sit there and work it out... some stupid question about peanut butter!
-
lol yep I got the peanut butter but not the boat water level...all I could think was DH likes boat water levels he often points it out to me if we are down the waterfront..lol that was no help to me :)
I feel like ringing them but know I will prob be disappointed when I find out my result. Does anyone know what a decent score would be or what you are aiming for for a Arts \ Nursing degree. It's 100-200 ranking so am I aiming for 170ish Arghhh too many sleeps to go, I'm also not sure whether the first round offers happen with this STAT , I have applied for first round by suppliementry application but not sure if the STAT result would be in by time.
Did I say I hate waiting !!!!!

Bec, they told me they wont give out results over the phone. Not sure when they give out the offers in VIC but I got told that as long as I did my STAT before the end of November then the results would be out in time for me to be considered with the main round of offfers. Not sure about the earlier rounds of offers. I didnt ask about that one!
hehe about the boat water levels!
-
Woohoo - goodluck girls, I am sure you will have blitzed the test and done really well!
Goodluck to us all! The early round offers are out in a month - such a long wait too!
-
I'm very talkative in this thread..it is my therapy.
I was amazed at the amount of people that sat the STAT with me on Saturday, I sat the afternoon session and it was full to the brim. It was also written and LSTAT, shows that there is alot of mature age students applying. I was pleased not necessary the oldest ;)
Karina: I didnt think they would, you know when you wish you had someone that knew someone that knew someone that worked there.
Relle: Good luck to you too, it would be so nice to come out in the first round ...fingers crossed for you.

You gals are truly inspirations!! I have always admired mums who study. I cant imagine how you go through study, assignments, exams, AND work, AND raise your babies.
It gives me encouragement as i have been wanting to start a Property degree at Curtin and was planning to apply to do it part time from next year. And now ive decided to go ahead with starting IVF i thought i would put those plans on hold BUT maybe i can do both?!
-
Bec, me too! When I did the test the room was full. Heaps more people than I had expected. I also noticed alot of older people. When I went to check my name on the list, everyones date of birth was also there and there were people who were around 50 years old sitting the test that day! Good on them i thought! I wish I could somehow get my results earlier. Gosh I'm impatient sometimes! I'm not intesreted in the other mail I recieve, just my STAT results lol.
Jules you could always seee about doing only one subject per semester so the workload is hopefully not too much for you?
-
Karina,
Last night I saw on the VTAC which of course is Vic but the results for the exams sat in October would be available online at myinfo on the 19th....least I dont have to have my stalking shoes on to catch the postman.
Oh another day down..LOL I bet I have done shocking if that is the case you will know as I will retreat quietly never to talk university aspirations again.

Jules,
I've applied for Curtin :) and remember if it gets too much, you can defer! Don't let IVF stop you from pursuing an education, too often we put our lives on hold for IVF and then regret the time lost. Go for it, hun!
Bec and Karina, if you think the wait is long for your STAT results, imagine having to wait for main round offers in January (we don't get early offers here). I put in my application in early Sept and I still have over 2 more months to wait until I know if I got in.
-
I better get a move on and see when i have to apply by! Hope i haven't missed it. You're both exactly right, i should give it a try. Im also still deciding whether to go with Curtin. I just wish they had the course online or external. I work better when i dont have to commit to attending classes, plus i live in the sticks! (by Perth standards) Looking around at interstate courses...
GOOD LUCK with your applications!
