I got my STAT results back today! Except its not much of a yay because I didnt do very well.
I did well in the quantitative section but oh so crap in the qualitative. I'm actully extremely disappointed with myself and I dont think i'll be joining any of you in your studies!
:(

Oh Karina sorry you didn't get the results you wanted. Don't be too hard on yourself! You never know, you may still get into your course. Chin up hun!
-
Oh no Karina, I'm so sorry you were disappointed by your results. Are you still able to apply? If not, remember that mid-year intake is through the uni, and they will take into account your life and work experience where TISC will not. Sometimes there is no substitute for life experience!
-
Karina,
I am so sorry about the results, as Sushee said it isnt just the Stat that they take into consideration, I was reading somewhere that they use the test as an indicative but the selection process also involves life experience, work experience and determination ;)I'm hoping the last one is my clincher as I dont think my results are going to be all that great. Ohh guee I suppose that means mine will be in the mail next week! If you dont hear from me I have pursued my other love IVF lol

Hi girls. Thanks for your kind words. I am still feeling crappy about it. I think I might call them and see if I can get more info on how the selection is actually done.
I feel that the test is flawed, in that its 50/50 between the quantitative/verbal questions, but quantitive would be more relevent than verbal if you are applying for a science based course, iykwim? I have still applied as applications had to be in by the end of Septemeber and i didnt do my test till 3 weeks ago. But I just know my work experience is not going to be enough to get me in. I've only ever had paper shuffler type jobs that require no training and little intelligence, and they dont rank highly.
I just cant believe how badly I did in the verbal questions! I did much worse than I thought I would and thats the reason I am so disappointed. I did really well on the maths type questions but bombed out completely on the verbal. Just like how I totally bombed out in english and history in year 12. I have never been any good at arty stuff. Its just too abstract for me.
I have found a uni in Sydney who actually interview their appplicants and apparently the interview is wht you are selected on. So I am thinking of applying there.
Bec hope you get your results soon and you do well. I'm sure you will! No one could possibly do as shockingly as I did in the verbal section!
-
Karina, they only take the overall mark not seperated so if you did really well on the quantative it may bring your mark up to the average intake mark. I still have no idea what is good and what isnt. I am truelly believing that anything over 100 ;) is good rofl.
Is there a site that would give you an idea of what is a decent or previous scores that have been accepted into uni?

I don't know about other states, but in WA, TISC has historical entrance scores, cut off scores and a TER calculator. 2 of the 3 WA unis that accept STAT for entry require a minimum of 145 for English and a 145 for quantitative, but ECU will accept 145 for English and a 115 for quantitative. I reckon definitely do some research as each uni has it's own requirements.

Gosh its been a while since i checked this thread
Just though i would pop in and let you know that on Monday, uni call to say they are offering me a place and i got all the paperwork on Friday - im very scared - have no idea how im going to pay for it and IVF aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
and yes sush - its very work related

Well done, Lou! Congratulations! I am so bummed that here in WA we don't get early offers. Jan 17th is a loooong way away still!

Hi all
i have applied to a Tertiary Preparation Program @ USQ next year then hopefully Bach of Nursing in 2009
-
Great news Shazz! All the best, hun! Knock 'em dead. :)
-
wowwww Loula way to go!
Karina - hun don't be too hard on yourself, the girls are absolutely right, alot of the time it is more to see where you are at, but it is actually your life experience that counts.
I have the rest of this month till early round offers - fingers crossed
-
These early round offers have me green with envy!
Like the new username too Relle!
-
LOL Thanks Sushee! I couldn't resist putting Doula in there somewhere now that I have a Doula mobile! heheheeh

Bec,ahhh I thought they didnt care about your STAT score but they took your STAT rank instead. The uni told me that last years minimum was 153, and I did get over that (not by much though!), but they obviously cant tell me what this years will be. She seemed to think it would be higher though. I suppose its just a waiting game though!
Loula, congrats!!!! thats awesome news! I'm sure you'll work it out re paying for it. Can you defer your fees through the HECS scheme (or whatever its callled now). How exciting!
Aww Sushee I have to wait until Jan as well... To get told I didnt get in, lol! argh the suspense!
Shazz, good luck!
Relle, thanks yah I hope they like my previous working experience, even though most of it just papershuffling jobs which doesnt rank highly. I wish they could just tell me now! I've never been good at waiting for something.
OK, I have decided that if I dont get into uni this time, I am going to apply for enrolled nursing instead. You apply to the health department, do a test, have an interview and if successful, you spend a year doing a combination of tafe study and working in various wards in the hospital (and you get paid for the whole year too!). The applications for the next intake have closed, but the intake after that is in Sept/Oct 2008 and the applictions open in about April/May and close in June, so I have about 6-7 months to try to get my stuff sorted out and gather more info. I spoke with the nurse education officer at the hospital and someone at TAFE, and the program sounds awesome so I am really really hoping to get into that. She also told me that I'd pretty much get first pick of what hospital I want to work at because I've got a child and they understand that I will need to work in a certain area so I can have access to day care without having to travel all the way across Sydney. DH thinks its cool, but I know my mum and sister will be disappointed. They REALLY want me to go work in the bank and everytime I go to my mums place they tell me to apply for a job at the bank, but I dont really want to work in the bank. Anyways, just thought I'd tell everyone my plans, because I am really not feeling confident about getting into uni at all.
Sorry to have waffled on so much, I have a bad habit of doing that.

Karina,
Thats a great plan! I'm jealous as we dont have anything like that here..only a div2 course that would prob be a bridge gap and look alot more favourable on your uni application. Really I dont feel all that confident as well....but cant be certain until those marks turn up. I'm sure I will miss Mid but really want to do nursing. I have the added unfortune of actually having a TER from 1992! Bad year they decided to introduce boys into our single sex school...the only subject I did well in was boys
Ohhh well I'm sure my STAT results should turn up today or tomorrow they are available online as of the 19th. Shesshh I can understand the anguish of waiting to January Sushee these 2 weeks have been all about what if this is my score! What is going to happen and how I'm going to work part time ( very flexable ) look after a 3 yr old and some how squish IVF in. Ahh as my friends will tell you "I love a drama".
OMG postie...whats the good of him a electrity bill and more election garbage!!

Bec, the one I'm talking aabout is the same as your Div 2. I looked it up in Vic and you can do it either at tafe for 12 months or as a trianeeship (paid! not sure if the pay is good though) over 2 years i think. Google "nursing in vic" and you will get the website that has all the info. I'm sure you'll do well in youR stat and get into something at uni. Hope you gety your results soon! Are you sure they count your TER from that long ago? They arent even taking into account my TER from 2001. Apprently they dont count it after 5 years. I dont know, maybe differnt in VIC!
-
Thanks Karina, I have looked into it they run one locally partime 3 days a week but it is strictly a theory based course with a few placements. It costs something in the vacinity of $6,000 a year and no pay :(. It will be my back up plan, I would really just use it to help aid me getting in next yr.
Hmmmm have I said that waiting sucks
