Wink Help with what to buy DS for his first birthday?

You think it would be an easy thing to buy but for me it's not!!

I want to buy DS something meaningful that he can keep (even tho I know later on in life he probably won't even care)

I am very sentimental myself and wish I had something from my first birthday!!

With girls jewllery is an easy option but what about boys???? DH doesn't want him to wear an id bracelet etc.....so now I am stuck for good ideas!!

I know he will be spoiled by the rest of the family with toys etc and I want to get him something special!!!

    Any ideas????

I am planning to do a photo book for my daughter's 1st birthday. We take tons of photos and I want something nice to remember her first year. Not sure who I will use to do it yet, but a few people have recommended Big W photos online. there are others but I haven't really got stuck into the research yet.

One of those first birthday books are always good - you know where you write down what happened in baby's first year along with photos. You can buy them and you just fill them in and stick in photos.

Or maybe frame the first sleepsuit he wore in hospital, something like that.

What about naming a star after him? I know it sounds a bit corny but like you said, he'll get lots of toys and things from everyone else.

how about a silver engraved cup? My hubby still has his, and it was the only shiny thing that he owned when I moved in with him ... he's always taken very good care of it (plus the eggcup & spoon that were his christening gifts)

I know what you mean, I am also very sentimental. I bought Lily a peuter frame with Happy Birthday on it and had it engraved with her name and the date.

What about a personalised candle? Google renee's candles for some samples.

My son (now 10) was given a globe of the world for his 1st birthday (you know the one's that spin around) - it is really good quality, so will last his whole life - I loved that his Aunty gave him "the world" - a really thoughtful gift - and now it's really handy for his geography and travels!

I too am very sentimental and want K to have something to look back on. I have started a BOX for him (like a memento box) which has all his baby stuff in - name card from hospital, cord clamp, gift cards that have been given to him etc

I have also just started scrapbooking so plan to do a few 'special' birthday pages for him but I am also going to get a photo book done aswell

My bubs is almost exactly the same age!

I have done up a photobook with BigW online and I LOVE it. It felt like more of a gift for me to reflect on his first year, and I find it really special. It was heaps of fun to do as well.

I am also having DH go out and buy DS something as well- not necessarily anything super special, but something just from his daddy. I will take pictures so both of them can remember it!!

I like the idea of a momento box too.
