belfie & Georgi - Yeah I'm looking at the Ikea high chairs. I'm thinking what I might do is go around a few baby shops and go to Ikea too and try them out. Maybe they will all be a bad fit for Maya's size, in which case I may as well stick with the one I have.
Wow.. all these teeth coming. Maya just has a partial back tooth out and no others. I can see ALL her teeth under the gums but they just seem to be sitting there now!
Georgi - I'm still doing 5 feeds (4 b/f and 1 f/f). The paed recommended I keep going for another couple of months until Maya is well established at having solids. At night I was doing both f/f and a 5th b/f but I've decided to drop the night b/f so that my DH can also do the night feed occasionally. It means I can now get more sleep some nights by going to bed early.
Hi all,
I've been reading but there is alot happening here and I never seem to find the time to reply! Also my sinuses are still playing up something shocking and I can only stand short times on the computer. Oh for a headache free day... Chemist Brand Pain Tablets are my best friend at the moment. I did have the CT done and the short version of the report is that they are stuffed. I see the surgeon in August and am crossing my fingers that they do a surgery sooner rather than later. But it is making it hard to be a mummy, thats for sure. I have a cold at the moment which will no doubt result in another infection so back on the antibiotic round about. grrrrr.
Bethany is getting cuter everyday! It is incredible watching her learn new stuff and just watching the world through her eyes. She gets on all 4s but no movement as yet. She also pushes her self in to a half sitting position where she still leans on one arm. That is pretty cute!
She is still really stuggling with her feeding. We made the switch to soy and that seemed to relive the "pain"symptoms for a while but now we are lucky if she takes 100mls a feed and we have to offer it she never "demands"anymore. She was weighed Friday at the hospital (more on that in a minute) and she has put on about 300gms in just over a month. Not a disaster but not great either. It works out to less that 50gms a week.
Anyway why we were at the hospital was our GP wanted a urine test done cause she thought Bethany had a UTI, guess what she does. It most likely has something to do with the fact that she has a small vaginal opening. It may mean that there are other abnormalties we can't see so she is off to the pediatrition at the end of next month for that and her feeding, she may end up there sooner if things get worse.
I feel like such a bad mummy. I can't get her to feed and I can't figure out why nothing has changed she just stopped one day. She has a UTI and I can't get her to get more water in. The best idea I had that works is using a wet washing that is pretty wet and cold from the fridge she loves sucking on that. But it seems like a pretty lame way to help your baby. My head hurts and I am worried about my baby.
On that rather depressing note I think I will head to bed.
Sorry bout no personals I will try better next time
Question for everyone: I was interested to know what is your bubba's favourite activity and/or favourite toy?
Maya loves it when I hide near her, then pop out suddenly, move very close to her and say "Hello!". I'm not sure if she has a favourite toy but she does love a tigger teddy bear that plays music and has flashing lights. When I turn it on she goes totally quiet and just watches it. I just wish it played longer than it does.
OK.. will try and BBL for personals. Gotta go feed Maya.
Girls, still around, problems posting and time ----
Happy 8 months to X/Z for yesterday WOOT!! Still b/f, but feeling a bit meh about it at the moment, probably get over that tomorrow LOL...
Belfie - how did the MCHN appt go - Zander ate 3/4 jar of custard last night lol - so I spose I am doing a bit of BLS and conventional style - depends what we are eating and what suits. He wont touch brekky cereals like weetbix or porridge yet though - i wouldnt either with warm water ewww - but am not gunna crack some formula for cereal and have to throw it out etc. I think he is getting there verrrrrrrrrrrrry slowly.
Georgi - Z is sleeping like crapola again during the day 3 - 4 x 30 min sleeps - but sleeps well at night - throw the balls up in the air and he loses here with me trying to resettle during the day due to time constraints hehehehe.
Tanya - Zander loves his Bright Stars mirror I got him a couple of months ago, he talks and babbles to himself - and his GloWorm, he sits there and sings lalalala and bobs his head up and down when I activate - its a cack!
Fluff - yep zander sleeps mainly through the night, but I never change his nappy o/n though - so still looking into cloth for overnight.
He has been very compliant with my wish for him not to poo in his new-ish MCN's LOL. He is in sposies overnight still and usually uses those first thing in the morning the last 3 weeks when he has had to go - good boy!! He is still a little lump though quite happy to sit and play and not in a rush to move - fine by me for now
Thanks Tanya yeah trying to get on here yesterday was a nightmare!
Well our MHCN visit went well -she was actually really nice. X is 9.7kg and 70cm long. She agreed that we should give his solids before his bottle given his vomiting tendency. She was also very pro finger foods which I was pleased with (even if I am too gutless to try them most of the time haha). I'm also off to see a paediatric dietician on Weds, cos I really can't work out what to avoid or include given most of our family digestive probs are intolerances & malabsorptions as opposed to allergies. Hopefully that'll help.
His sleep is totally stuffed up atm, dunno what's going on with him... the internet seems to suggest this is common at 8 months. And as we all know, "the internet" is always right
SamiH - I can only imagine being meh on the BF. I'm meh on the expressing (whcih i'm doing right now.. haven't had lunch yet hmmm). I'm planning to stop 9 mths I think... will start phasing in FF in a few weeks. I prolly need to get a life whcih is not being on a pump 5 times a day... LOL on Z being a lump. X is rolling like crazy, and was almost on all fours rocking today... uh oh!
Tanya - great question! X's fave toys - a cloth book "farmtails" with animal tails all sticking out hte side and a Lamaze dragonfly and ... em... panda too . And of course, the tags/wrapping on everything/anything. Had looked at that Bright Stars mirror, mmm tempted to get it now!
amy - Sorry to hear about Bethany's UTI. How's she doing now? I assume she's on anti-biotics and hopefully that has fixed things. And sorry to hear about the headaches. I hope things ease up for you soon!
Sami - I've been thinking of getting a mirror too cos Maya loves it when I take her to a mirror. She squeals at herself. Where did you get your mirror from? ohh.. and I have a recipe I made up for weet-bix that doesn't involve BM or formula and Maya loves it! I get the weet-bix and add boiling water (from the kettle) until it's mushy, then add some yoghurt to it and stir through. It's actually quite nice.
belfie - Wow, X is about double the size of Maya. I keep thinking we should organise to get together IRL. I reckon X would look huge to me and M would look so tiny to you! Oh and Maya's sleeps aren't that great at the moment either. I've been wondering if it's time to go to two naps a day or not?!
Fluff - Happy anniversary to you and your DH.
Georgi - Hello! How's everything going?
csab - How's V doing?
Amanda - Are your boys better now? How's the flooding?
Have I missed anyone. Sorry if I have! Hello to anyone I missed.
Oh and he is trying when we are in the bath together to suckle/latch on!! I let him to see what he would do...happily sucked away....strange how he still remembers.... don't think i am strange girls!!!!
Tanya~ Bethany's UTI is on the mend although we will need to follow up and check that there isn't anything wrong that we can't see. We are at a bit of a crisis point here....She has spent weeks screaming and not feeding (hence not being around much) no one can decided if it is reflux or behavioural. Bethany will be one of the cases discussed this morning at a big peds case conferance and hopefully all those minds together can come up with something. FAST!! Yesterday was by far the worse. I just want her to be able to eat and feel better. She went all day yesterday with out a sleep so she was a nightmare to settle last night. I wish there were easy answers with these little people. Anyway the last 2 days has seen me do assesments and interviews with people who will present the case to the peds, hard to do when your child is screaming and you are half asleep. But we got there. Although she has lost a bit more weight and I will have to go out today and get her more winter stuff. The pants she has are too small and I can't even pin them they need to come in that much!! Had she not gone on a hunger strike all would be well! Anyway hopefully the brains of peds will come up with something, I have a feeling the something will be reflux meds but to be honest at this point bring it on.
I am going to have a cup of tea and enjoy the silence.
amy - I also have a UTI. I've been feeling terrible over the last couple of days and finally saw a doctor today. Hopefully it'll clear up soon. So I can imagine how poor Bethany must be feeling. What did the paeds come up with for Bethany? I hope things improve soon!
fluff - That's great on the "dada" Maya did it over and over again for days and now has stopped.
Well I had an annoying day yesterday. Most of you know this already, but just want to vent once more. Went to an ABA meeting for the first time. I was having a cup of tea and another woman (who has a toddler) insisted on holding Maya. She knelt down on the floor and was cuddling Maya. Then had Maya on her knee and wasn't supporting her well, but I stupidly didn't say anything cos I assumed she was ready to catch her. Then she saw that Maya can stand (with support!!!!) and so she let Maya stand and then let go! So Maya fell forwards and planted her face into the floor! OMG I was so upset and so ****ed off. The woman just said "oh I thought she could stand" and "I forgot that you have to support them". The woman is heavily pregnant, but I don't think there's any excuse for it at all! It makes me feel like I don't want to let anyone hold Maya (other than people I know and trust of course). Then I was worried that Maya was injured and wasn't sure if I should be taking her to see someone. But she calmed as soon as I held her so I thought surely if she was badly injured she would keep crying. Anyway, not a nice experience for me or Maya!
Tanya - oh that's lousy, hope the UTI gets better soon! I can't believe that woman did that with Maya, that's awful!
Amy_o - it sounds like you've been having such a rough time!!! I hope the paeds come up with something useful and that things improve!
fluff - omg that's so cute saying dada! And yes X has seemed interested in latching on in the bath also, but has no idea what to do then! Plus I'm an eensy bit scared of those big chompers!!
Well we also had a falling drama this week. MIL was looking after him yesterday, parked him at the front door in the stroller then decided she could just get the mail (without putting the brakes on of course....)... sure you can guess what happened - yup stroller rolled and toppled. X banged his head on the side of the stroller, and apparently screamed and screamed (poor little fella had been fast asleep too). MIL was suitably horrified, and once FIL had helped establish that he was ok, FIL was really mad at MIL! He had a pretty good egg there yesterday but after a bottle and a long sleep seemed quite his usual self ever since, and I can barely see the bruise today thank goodness.
belfie - How terrible. It sounds like it's the week for people being careless and for babies to bump their heads! I'm glad to hear X is ok!
Maya has started picking up bits of EVERYTHING and putting them in her mouth! Yesterday I tried to get a big bit of fluff back out of her mouth but accidentally pushed it further back instead, so she ended up swallowing it. Are other people's bubba's doing this too? I find even if I watch her like a hawk she'll quickly pick something up and put it in her mouth before I can blink! I guess it won't harm her but I hate seeing her eating bits of fluff, hair, anything off the floor! And I'm surprised by the fact that she can grasp very very tiny specks off the ground. Maybe I just have to vacuum more often.
Hi everyone - vewy busy at the moment with a baby who thinks day sleeps are for the weak ... he is now catnapping 15 - 20 mins so things get tense in the late afternoons hehehehehe.
I have decided this weekend we are going to try and give Zander a bottle in the afternoons - I am just not happy b/f and not being able to get out (cos I suck at expressing ) and 8 months is pretty damn good in my book - ok so I am still trying to justify it a little bit LOL ......
Booked tickets to Burn the Floor this morning and am really excited about that.
Just soccer and ANOTHER 4 yo birthday party on Sunday - so I am dumping my DD and then getting my eyebrows waxed hehehehe - family friend so she will be fine.
Just had soup at Giselles preschool for Biggest morning Tea - they get so excited when you come to the events .... even Zander ate some of the pumpkn soup!
Zander has been pulling his ear, runnyish nose and having poo that resembles a cattleyard, so dont know if a cold or teeth. Cant see anything happening so maybe a cold. So mebbe I should hold off on the bottle hmmm
Now, formulas - S26 is beef based and Karicare is vegetable based so I am going to go for Karicare - but does anyone know if you can buy the stick packets in Karicare cos I dont wanna buy a whole tin when I only need a couple of scoops a day ....
Be back later - should eat lunch whilst I have this short break of 20 mins lol. Well, it has already been 15 so 5 left - you lucky things got my time tehehehe.
Sami...Karicare don't have the small sachets..but if you ring them..or email them they can foward some samples to your local chemist.
Jack is on karicare goats milk...we haven't looked back since being on it.
