    Eating out

    Hi All,

    I have a 19 month old toddler.

My husband and I enjoy Chinese food, and I am just wondering if there is anything safe to give him when we are out? Or am I better off just bringing home made food? I know at Chinese restaurants they use a fair amount of sauces etc.

    Thanks

at that age they can eat anything you eat.

maybe steer clear of currys if you havent introduced that yet.

but everything esle should be ok

I always asked for noodles with vegetables or fried rice with vegetables and they will make it fresh for you. DD1 tended to want what we were eating though so we would get her own food and she would have tastes of ours.

Other things she has liked are dumplings, soups, and roti style bread so they are some other ideas for you.

Thanks so much for your replies!

How about things like soy sauce, which I know they put in alot of Asian dishes?

are you worried that he won't like it? or something else?
We just give Darcy whatever (and I mean whatever) we are eating.

Soy sauce is fine, just high in salt. If there's no allergies, fried rice should be fine. What about steamed vegies, spring roll, dim sim? xo

We know the owners of the Chinese place we normally go to, so I have no hesitation offering our DS a bit of whatever we are having (as long as it isn't crazy chilli hot). I know that the food is decent and freshly made. We don't tend to eat much other take out, but if we do end up somewhere where I don't 'know' the food I stick with things like fried rice, or a standard stir fry- foods that he can happily pick at and keep him occupied

If you are unsure for any reason, just stick to the simple dishes, and take your own fruit or a sandwich just in case.

Steer clear of curries until completely toilet trained. Seriously. DS has had the odd curry and no more until he goes poo in the loo.

Chinese-wise, DS loves egg fried rice, prawn crackers, any sort of spring roll, non-battered meat but little sauce and not veg cooked in sauce.

Usually DS knows what's too much for him or that he shouldn't over-do on so I trust his instincts.
