Sorry if this is a little TMI but I am just slightly peaking out over here. I went to the loo earlier today and when I wiped I saw blood- about the size of a 10 cent piece, a bit mucousy.
I have had haemorroids (sp?) about 20 years ago, none after ds's birth, but I have been a sore and tender in that area lately *ahem*, although not straining. Im 21w+6d pregnant.
Any reassurance for me? Should I shuttle myself off to the dr's or wait and see if it happens again?
I would probably go see the doc. I remember a page I read about pg roids said not to worry about them *unless* they are blue/purple (yeah okay.. I cant even see my bikini line) or if there is blood.
It might have just been something hard in the stool grazing the size, but its better safe than sorry, no?
Wow, its amazing what we preg ladies get to talk about isnt it?? Not all beer and skittles!
Sometimes if I am constipated (basically all of first trimester) and have had a painful poo the resulting blood is actually a small tear as the poo is coming out (EE GADS ), rather than blood in the stool.
So you need to figure out if there was a small tear or if the poo had blood in it itself - IYKWIM??
Being the type of person who is horrified of my rear end being anywhere near a Dr I would probably wait until the next "event" and see if it happens again. The other way is if your bum is sore still then it might be that it was acually a tear?
I had this though I wasn't pregnant at the time.... took myself off to the hospital! Apparently everyone has small pollops inside the anus, the doctor described them to me as a 'small bunch of grapes'. Haemorroids are these pollops which have popped out!! If you are constipated and/or straining then sometimes the pollops burst which is why you get the blood!! I also think the added pressure of pregnancy would cause that to happen too!! Just wait and see if you get anymore.... and if you are worried then definitely go see your doctor!!
I had the same thing about the same time, although I was not constipated. Obs. said it was because of the added pressure baby is putting in your insides. And not to worry unless it gets worse. It only happened once and went away. I increased my water intake though. I hope that helps and good luck.
That can't be very nice. I think the others are right, it might just be a slight tear or hemmies. Maybe in the meantime do what you can to make number twos as easy as possible (prune juice, metamucil, lots of water and possibly even a stool softener if there is one you can take when preg). Also, I think the chemists have antiseptic type wipes that you can use when you have hemmies which might help...
Thanks ladies, I do feel much better now. I'll keep an eye on it and if it happens again I'm off to the Dr. Might mention it to my midwife this week when I see her as well. Thanks again
