I want to know what this baby is!!!

Just a little bit of a whine here.

I really wanted to find out what this baby is at our 20 week ultrasound, but after a long session with an uncooperative baby, it was lunch time, and the technician was not really interested in searching for the sex, so she made a quick attempt, and said, nope, sorry, can't get it, and that was that. I can't really blame her - it was her break time, and really, finding out the sex is not essential. But I WANTED TO KNOW!!!

This is the third time this has happened to us! With our first, we knew we were having a girl. With the second and third they couldn't tell, and now, not with this one either.

And, to be perfectly honest, I don't care what it is! People assume we're hoping for a boy, and sure, that would be nice, but we will be equally thrilled with another little pink person.

I just want to know if I have to find some boy clothes. And bedding. And blankets. And undershirts. Heck, everything I have is pink! And I REALLY want to get some of the beautiful Aden and Anais swaddling blankets I've been drooling over, but I don't want neutral colours - I want pink or blue!

I want to pick a name, and call my baby by that name!

We thought about having a 3D ultrasound done, but they're $150, and things are tight enough right now, without adding an unnecessary expense like that. Really, it is unnecessary. Even though I really want it.

I've considered asking my midwife if there's any chance of getting another ultrasound, but I highly doubt it. Everything is going beautifully, and I'm measuring exactly normal, so, no reason to go for another one.

OK, OK, I know, it's not that big of a deal. I've got a few blue/neutral outfits, and I'm sure they'd tide me over until I can get to the store if need be. And it's really not that many more weeks until this bean arrives and ends all doubts as to his/her gender. I just wanted to know now.

Got any good tips for guessing what you're having? I've guessed wrong twice now. Thought the last two were DEFINITELY boys. I've given up on guessing.

i've toyed with the idea of finding out the sex of our bun currently cooking in the oven and thought of how much more 'organised' i could be with having the right colours etc etc, but when i think about it, i only really need a handful of 0000 clothes that would suit either a girl or a boy, and once i'm out of hossie i can go shopping..... so for me its not really a valid reason to spoil the surprise, just so i can buy clothes in advance if you know what i mean......

but each to their own i think if i was on to my fourth i might be keen to find out also!

at my 20week u/s with ds2 they couldn't see properly due to position so they made an appointment for me to come back exactly a week later (free of charge) so we could find out the gender...maybe speak to your m/w

Aw at least now you'll have a nice surprise at the end And I'm sure if it is a boy, you'll get inundated with presents that are all blue when he is born.

Most of the babies I know that have been shy, have been girls. So if it was me I would be assuming it is another girl and calling it a girls name, but make sure you have a week's worth of boy things ready to go. If you don't use them then you can have them set aside for baby shower gifts. Can DH use the washing machine? Leave the tags on and if bubs comes out a boy (which would be a cool surprise) he can wash them while bubs is in white or hospital clothes.

Thanks ladies. I know the surprise will be nice - I'm just not really a "surprise" kind of person. Too much of a control freak maybe.....
Alioops - I wonder how many "modest" babies turned out to be girls. That's what my friends have said too - that this one must be a girl as well. Maybe I'll start another thread and see if I can get some idea of how often it was a girl when the U/S tech said they couldn't tell.
I'll go sort through my baby box and see how many days worth of outfits I've got for a boy, if need be. And maybe I'll resign myself to plain white swaddling blankets. I could always dye them or trim them with pink or blue afterwards, I guess. (Do you have Aden and Anais in Australia? They are sort of new here - muslin swaddling blankets, really nice and soft, with the cutest prints on them! They say they are Australian, but I think that's just because the makers originally came from Aus. The blankets are made in the US, I think.)
Anyways, all that aside, thanks again for the sympathies, and I'll go start a thread asking about ultrasounds.
