When does RBWH do sections for previa/accreta?

    Hi there

I don't know if this is in the right area - I figured this would be the best place to put it.

I have placenta previa - was complete, but is now marginal (31 weeks) I think I also have placenta accreta but the tech was iffy on giving me any info today

I'm having LO at the RBWH and have heard conflicting things about when they'll do the section - I've heard 35-36 weeks, and then I've heard 37/38 weeks.

Has anyone had these conditions before - when did you have your section? I'm really anxious and don't want to be having her at 36 weeks! Yikes!

    Thanks

    Hi Jessykasmum,

Sorry I don't know the answers to your question but it might be a good idea to call the hospital to see if they can give you any more info. When is your next appt.? I'd say it would largely depend on the risk factors involved and how you are progressing. No doubt you'll need to have regular scans to check the placenta and the progression of the praevia/accreta. Both conditions can be quite serious. Especially accreta if you do happen to have it as there can be problems with removing the placenta at delivery.

best of luck. I have my fingers crossed there is no accreta and that your placenta behaves itself. keep us posted on how you go.

I don't have an answer either, but I just wanted to say I was thrilled with the care I received at the hospital and I don't think they would do a c section until absolutely necessary.. I would really like to know how you go with your experience

    Hi girls
    Thanks for the responses.

I'm less than thrilled to be having to go back to the RBWH - last time I was there, my care was awful - but that's a whole other post

My next appointment is this Thursday - we're hoping to find out for sure about the accreta, though I have a feeling I have it. My u/s tech called the the day after my u/s to say that he's happy with my placenta and that he's still not sure about the accreta, and to speak to my doctor at my appointment this week.

I guess it's just a waiting game - I wont find out what date my section is until 13th of July at the earliest... I just hope she doesn't have to come too early

    thanks again for the responses.

    Hey Jessykazmum,

I have placenta accreta with this pregnancy but I am going to Redlands Hospital. I have a scan to place exactly where my placenta is at 32 weeks then we can go from there to when as I will be having my c/s. Dr's told me I can go as early as 36 weeks depending on where it is placed and how big bubs is and I could go as late as 41 weeks if I wanted to. Just all depends on this scan.

They are telling me from my 21 week scan thatonly the tip and not my whole placenta is sitting on the scar.

Definately ask for some more infomation on it as it is a very indepth process apparently just depending on how and where it is sitting.

    HTP!!!

    Thanks for the info hon.

They;ve decided that they can't say for sure if I've got accreta or not, so they're treating me like I have it and am having my little girl next week - 36w4d. Because of the chance of bleeding etc, I have to have her under general anesthetic which I'm not too pleased about - I thought I'd let you know that because it might be a possibility for you.

I'm really not looking forward to next Wednesday LOL I can't wait to meet my baby, but I don't want to have the op first Silly huh.

Thanks for that info. I have already told the Drs there is no way that I will be going under a general until bubs is out and I at least get to see him/her.

    Hi JessyKasmum & ACJ,

Just wondering how you guys went with your possible accreta problems?

I am currently 17.5 weeks along and had an emergency scan yesterday because of some bleeding. My placenta is low lying anterior (about 1cm from my cervix but is completely covering my previous caesarean scar)

I'm terrified of accreta. I just have a really bad feeling about it.
    How did you guys go?
