    What to do with chair?

We have this old rocker recliner that belonged to hubby's nan, and it has been in our spare room for ages and we love it and it's so comfy as a reading chair. We want to use it in the nursery for bubby, only problem is it's old fashioned black vinyl. All bubby's furniture is going to be white and this chair is going to stick out like a sore thumb. We thought of getting it reupholstered, but the guy quoted us between $500 and $800 depending on material we chose.THere is no way I'm spending that much.
So after all that rambling, what I'm asking is what can I use to cover it up to make it look a bit prettier without going to too much expense? I though of a white throw blanket but I don't think I can get one big enough. Any suggestions?

Maybe buy a few black items, maybe some black frames for pics/hangings, and make it a feature? Then you don't have to do anything to it?

I was going to suggest what Leasha said. Either add black to the room, or maybe someone can make you a white throw rug to put over the chair if you can't find buy one big enough?

Do you know anyone who is handy with a sewing machine? Or are you?

You could buy some fabric to make into a giant recliner pillow case - a bit like a fitted sheet, the elastic can hold the fabric up under the chair so it doesn't drag iykwim - and have a bit of the recliner part to fold into. Perhaps you could even take the measurments to a dress maker and they might be able to whip something up for you for a couple of hundred? Depends how much you're comfortable with spending though.

If you did that you could even get a few different bubby patterned fabric and have a bit of a quilt affect happening on it

thanks girls. I'm no sewer but hubby'smums pretty handy with a sewing machine. I'll see what she can come up with. I don'tmind if the recliner part doesn't come up, so I might even lok for those single couch covers you can get at kmart and big w etc and see if they will fit. hmmm why didn't I think of that before.

Kmart have covers for them I think they are about $30 but they are proper couch covers and they have a lot of shapes so there should be one that fits.

in terms of covers, Spotlight has them too.

i have an old blue chair in our nursery and have been trying to find ways to cover it. i bought a lounge chair cover at Spotlight but it was way too big. i have tried covering it in a sheet but it doesnt look as good.

depending on the sex of my baby i will get some nice cushions for the chair, so i can 'pretty it up' if its a girl or leave it blue of its a boy.

OP - try out the chair covers or add some cushions to make it a feature. i have a feeling that my chair will be covered in terry towelling chuck clothes anyway! i just think adding a cover will make it easier to clean.
