Excuse me - if you find my brain, can you please return it please?

Pre-pregnancy I was a pretty kick arse chick. I would Get Things Done at work, totally be in control and be able to anticipate situations before they became a problem.

Now it seems, I have turned into a big pile of jelly. Quite simply, I forget things. It's driving me bonkers. I have never been like this!

    Latest hits include:

    - I walked into our print room this morning, completely forgetting my reason for being there
    - Despite being reminded someone was picking something up this morning, I completely forget. Wasn't done.
    - I was asked by my team to get some clarity on an issue. Did I do it? Nope! I was mortified when they had to follow me up.

I sent an email to my team this morning just letting them know I'm forgetting stuff, so don't hesitate to chase me up when I don't do something. I just hate being like this!

I know it's only temporary, but it's driving me bonkers.

I sympathise!! I don't have specific examples right now - can't remember!! But I swear since being pregnant with number 1 and with number 2 on the way my brain is slowly but surely decreasing in size and ability!

Just write lots of lists and notes - that's what I do!

I worked in transport before, jobs on the go everywhere, forklift drivers to control, dealing with containers, truck drivers, customers, shipping lines, and staying ahead of all the sexist jokes that come with being a girl in the truckin industry (a man's world).

now? pffffft. I was having trouble working at the hatchery just counting out tubs of chicks by the 80 load! geez, 1, 2, 3, 4, now where was I again?

    gawd help me

I hate to tell you, but it's not temporary LOL! My brain has never returned to normal since my first pregnancy

It truly is worse when I'm pg though. Last night I stared blankly at DS1 (who is nearly 5) while he was telling me he doesn't need a bib - I was putting DS2's bib on him for some reason . The penny eventually dropped

fionaw, I totally sympathise with you.

I'm not as 'switched on' as I used to be at work and it's driving me insane! Also, it's not the complicated things, it's the simple everyday tasks...

Hopefully it will get better after birth!

It doesn't go away - in fact my memory is worse than ever now with 2 kids. I used to be super organised, paid bills always on time etc. Now i have to rely on scribbles on my wall calendar and even then i might still forget. Here are some examples:
I forgot my dinner date with a gf even though we spoke about it 2 days ago
I get my Dr appt days and times wrong
    I forget to pay bills
I forget what i'm about to do and stand around wandering
Oh the joys of being a parent.

    - That was me
I actually ended up being taken aside by the boss for a chat...seems I was the one person who could NOT afford to stuff things up... and he was saying, "what is going on? This isn't you..." (they did know I was PG too)

And you're right, the worst part was I was so frustrated with myself

I dealt with it by writing lists, and lists, and lists... basically I took myself back to square one & retrained my brain to function in it's new state
Seems to have worked ok. I scraped through, and I guess by about 20-22 weeks I noticed a difference and found it easier to manage. Now I have started maternity leave & am still doing some work from home and back to feeling like a valued employee...lets see if it lasts after bub arrives & I'm sleep deprived

    Good luck

    :yeahthat:

My brain also has never returned to normal since my first pregnancy. It seems a little better after bubs is born but then gets worse again with each pregnancy after. Im sure of it anyway. I am pregnant with baby number 3 and my brain is worse than ever.
