what week do they give you a date for an elective c section?
Hi everyone,
Just wondering at around which week the ob actually calls up the hospital and arranges a date for an elective c-section. I know they actually perform the csection at around 38-39 weeks, but I'm trying to find out when they actually tend to arrange the date and book you in. I vaguely remember my ob saying they book you in about a month in advance, but I'm not sure.
Just want to know so I can schedule my next ob appt in the right week. I rang to ask the receptionist and she said I should just come in for an appt. this Monday and ask the Ob myself, but I really don't want to have to do that (another half day off work, arrange a babysitter, traffic, parking, etc, etc.. too much hassle just to find out some information).
Thanks in advance

I guess I should mention i'm going to a public hospital.
I've got friends who are having their babies by elective C/S with a private OB in a private hospital, and they already have a date at 28 weeks.... so it's obviously done differently between private and public (maybe because privately you're booking the actual doctor, but when you're public you're booking the hospital...)

I'm having an elective c-section through a public hospital, and i've been scheduled in for about a week or two now (booked in at 35weeks) But the doctors where saying they usually like to wait as long as possible before they actually schedule you in (no idea why) and that it doesnt matter how far along you are, they could schedule you in with a couple of days to spare.
I've actually been told that if i go into labour before my scheduled date, there won't the hectic rushing me in for an emergency cs. They just said come into hospital, and they'll do me on the last shift of the day, cause hey, everyone loves overtime. Lol. I like my doctor.
Plus it'll be an elective c-section, and i won't have the term "emergency" on my record.
Mine is a little different I am a public patient at a private womens clinic so the sprecialist i see is the guy doing the c-section. He gave me a date weeks ago and I will have mine at 39 weeks. He said for him it depended on school holidays as he was having some time of and going away so he new when he would be able to do it IYKWIM?
I think you would just be able to ask when you see your doc next?
I was given my date by my OB when i first saw him when i was around 12 weeks i think? I was given paperwork to book into the hospital (private) but the OB forgot to book me in, and caught on somewhere in my last tri i think, that he hadnt done it. I was booked in for spot on 39 weeks.
Hey Krissy goodluck with your CS, what date do you go in? I could ask at my next doc appt but I'm I'm trying to have as few appts as possible... so that's why I want to find out when the OB can book me in so I can organise my doc appts around that.... eg I don't wanna go to the GP at 32 weeks then he sends me to the OB at 34 weeks and the OB says come back at 36 weeks so we can book you in... If I know exactly when the OB can book me in I can avoid fussing around and having more appts than necessary, and space my doc appts either side of the OB appt.
With DS, it was anticipated that I'd have a c/s because I had placenta praevia. The OB didn't schedule the c/s in until after I had a scan at 32 weeks, just in case my placenta was far enough away for a VB. Unfortunately, it wasn't so the c/s was scheduled at 33 weeks for 39 weeks. However, I ended up going into labour early at 36+6 and my c/s was classed as emergency instead of elective. Mainly because of the praevia, they had to call all the doctors and staff in at 3am!
hey again, I go in on the 24 sep! time seems to fly dosent it. I totally understand about the appointments. Can you ring and just talk to the OB?
good luck with everything for you too
