DD1 dropped hers when she turned 3 although she still sometimes has a little nap at childcare - the power of peer group pressure- but at home she won't even have a lie down *sigh*
And was it consistent?
How long did it last for before they went back to a sleep during the day (if at all)?
Charlotte appears to be dropping her day sleep. She will nap if we are in the car or something, but even now laying with me for her afternoon feed she will not nap as she usually does.
She is going down as usual though at 8.30-9.30pm...she wakes for a feed and snuggle in bed around 5-6 and then is up by 8.30/9 most days.
Should I be pushing her to sleep still?? I dont want it to be over yet!!! I like my nana naps occasionally...lol
How young is too young to drop the sleep? Im not sure - my goddaughter was napping during the day until she was 4...

My older 2 kids dropped their day sleep at about 2 but started going to bed at around 6ish. The yougest was still havig her day sleep at 3 thankfully.
18 months he started dropping it.. He is now 22 months and occasionally may fall asleep if we are out and about in the car but that is about it...
Limey, I was going to do this exact post a few days ago
My DD was 3 and a bit when she dropped hers.
DS has been a bit iffy the last week or so - he is going in to his cot for 2 hours every day. Most days he will sleep but some days he will just lay in his cot and talk etcNo idea what's going on but hope it's a phase that will pass.
I think most kids are well over 2 before they drop it, but it depends on the child I guess. Most of the stuff I've read has suggested that most kids need a sleep or rest period during the day till about 4-5. DD is 4.5 now and still has a 'rest time' while DS sleeps. Most times it's just a quiet activity like laying down with a book, watching a movie, colouring in etc. Sometimes she will still fall asleep in the car if we're out.

DS1 started sleeping only every 2nd day at around 3 1/2. Then at nearly 4 it dropped to once or twice a week. He usually still sleeps twice a week but one of those days is usually Saturday after his swimming lesson and he didn't sleep today - hopefully that's a one off!
DS (3) still has naps. Both my kids are nappers. Even on the days when he would fuss and not sleep I still made sure he had quiet time in his room. Some days he sleeps others he doesn't but he still has quiet time in his room. DD 7 can still have a nana nap if we're all having one. She loves her naps and I'm sure if school allowed it she'd opt for one at school too LOL!
Every kid is different, and if you're ok with her dropping her nap then I wouldn't worry if you want it to still be an option then just push through with it, knowing some days she may nap others she may not.
Darcy has a snooze still about 3-4 times a week. She was 3 in May. Otherwise she falls asleep at5 or 6 and then wants to be up for hours.
She does go to bed at 7.30 usually though.
Ashley dropped it at 18 months.
But we are just in the last 1-2 weeks trying to phase it back in... as she gets rotten by 5pm! and i need her to be nicer lol
Ash dropped hers around 18 months, for awhile tho I was able to put her in her cot for quiet time, altho she didn't sleep she would actually stay in there for 1-1.5hrs with books, then that got shorter and shorter til she'd carry on as soon as I tried.
Evenings were bit of nightmare for a little while she'd be overtired by that stage, we did move her bedtime a bit earlier too. If she gives them up maybe you could move her bedtime to 7:30ish?
Chase was 2 when he stopped, Jaidan was 3.5
Now they will sleep if they are in the car or sometimes when they are laying down watching a movie.
Brendan still has a day sleep and he's 2yrs 5 months
Yeah I was hoping that I would be able to move her bedtime when she dropped her nap, so far, to no avail! lol I tried a few months ago too to move it, but nope. She has just always gone to be at the same time, no matter what we do...
Will try putting her in her cot though with some books and toys and see if she will be happy with that...she doesnt usually like going into her cot at all during the day.
So seems that it is quite early, but not really unusual for her to drop them now...
*sigh* oh well! There goes my sanity time! lol
Thanks for the replies girls!
The hardest part was when #2 came along and couldn't get that break in the day!
Oh no. I'm scared having read that some kids drop the sleep at 18 months. DD is 16 months old and I am not ready for her to drop her sleep.
It only affects me on the weekend because I work mon-fri fulltime, but I need her nap time to get things done.
I know this thread is for toddler aged children, however I have a 8 week old baby that has decided in the last 2 weeks to drop his day sleep. He wakes up at about 7:30 or 8am and then does not have a sleep until 8 or 9 at night. I thought babies this age sleep most of the day but he only seems to sleep is we are out in the pram or in the car.
I wish he would have lasted until he was a toddler age to drop his day sleep.
WEEEELLLL...I thought I would update...
Charlotte has been day-sleep-free since I posted, aside 2 days - yesterday and Monday- where she slept on my lap for about 1.5 hours each day - and going to bed was a NIGHTMARE and she woke every few hours (something she only does now if she is teething or sick) and her behaviour after her naps was atrocious!
So I have decided that I shall put a ban on day sleeps myself! lol I am trying to make sure we are out and about from about 3-5 so she misses that chance to sleep anyway or naps in the car...will see how we go!
Setof3 - Ohno!! Perhaps maybe he is just becoming more aware of the world around him...Im sure he will get back to napping throughout the day soon![]()
Hi LimeSlice, I'm thinking that the day sleeps just might depend on how much sleep is being had each night but having said that my now 2 year old has slept 12 hours a night since he was 12 weeks old and still love his day sleep.
I've found though that it has contantly changed over the last year though. 2 short sleeps became 1 short sleep which has now become 1 longer sleep and it has varied from in the afternoon to in the morning. At the moment, he will sleep 12 hours overnight, get up at 7.30am and will go down for a 3 hour sleep at 10.30am! Did I mention he loves sleeping?? Mind you he is a total firecracker when he is awake!
If he were at daycare (which he is not) I'd say not to expect him to sleep at all during the day. If we were out and about he would (and does) quite happily go all day without a sleep as long he is playing. "I'm having too much fun to sleep mum!"
Having said that if my DS does not want to have a nap (and yes it does happen) then I'll settle him down for a half hour sit down rest. If we are at home he will sit on his thomas lounge and if we are out I'll sit him in a chair with a drink to relax for 20 minutes or so to recharge.
Like one of the other mums said too, being put down for a sleep doesnt always mean they will sleep, more so will chatter to themselves and have a rest. So try putting her down at the usual time and put your feet up if you need a rest. I wish the day sleeps would last a wee bit longer too! xx
