What music is your baby listening to?

I'm curious as to what sort of music you play to your baby?

I've been playing a variety of groups from ABBA to Muse to AC/DC to classical - not up loud but low background music.

I sing along to the music and make up my own words but some people have been shocked that my almost 5mth old baby is listening to this type of music.

My DS loves metal...and anything that is on. He does love playschool and wiggles and abc classic but on the weekends DH and I always have music in the house and DS listens to it all. In fact when he was very little and unsettled in the car if I put on really heavy music with it would calm him down.

He even has a little head bang dance...

ooh, good thread - thank you!

DS has the radio on all night, just night & soft. The radio station plays 80's, 90's & some new stuff too.

He also has a beatles lullaby cd, it's nice & relaxing. His favourite song though is twinkle twinkle little star. If he is every grumpy all we have to do is sing that and that usually pacifies him.

DS has abc classic on in bed and whatever we are listening to during the day. He likes Aerosmith at the moment. We have to get him a new cd player, only the radio on his works now, which is a pain when they are playing crap.

DD listens to whatever we're listening too. she does have a nightlight thingy that plays classical music and shines stuff on the roof for when she's not settling at night, but the rest of the time it's our music - which is usually country, but throw in jewel, pink, elton john, guns n roses, fleetwood mac...

DS listens to what ever we have on. This can vary from ABBA to Pink to classical music to heavy metal! He sort of just ****s his head and gets this funny look on his face whenever the song changes!

Whatever we have on. The radio alot or DP's mixed CD.
His fave songs are Pokerface by Lady Gaga, and Boom boom pow by Black eyed peas.
He actually sings along to the Boom boom pow one with a "boom boom boooooooooooom".
Took me ages to figure out what he was saying cause he'd say it alot but once I worked it out it all made sense.

When DD2 (whos now 3) was a baby I would settle her with some Jose Gonzalez, she loved that, and was a guaranteed settler in our house..but she also loved whatever I was listening to at the time, and it would get her attention if it was something she recognised (ie: if she was crying or carrying on, if she heard a song she heard a few times before, she's stop and listen and often forget what she was going on about!!). She loves songs from Dora the Explorer now and sings along with them, but I have an MP3 disc in my car stereo that plays a lot of The Cure, Icehouse, Janes Addiction (yes Im an 80's tragic) and she can sing along to these ones quite happily, and these are the ones that will often calm her in a long drive when she is getting fidgetty and impatient.

I love music and will expose my kids to as much as possible (with the exception of death metal!! lol!!)

Thanks for the responses girls - glad I'm not the only one who plays a variety of music.

I've noticed that bubs enjoys new songs - he's into silverchair at the moment!

Cohen listens to whatever we have on in the car or at home. He LOVES Lady Gaga and say's "Gaaaaa Gaaaaa" whenever she comes on in the car or on MTV. He also loves Michael Jackson and says "Mih" when he comes on. My husband loves all the meavy metal music and Cohen loves it too. He headbangs with Joel in the car. it's sooo funny. At night time I have The Piano soundtrack playing in his room and he has fallen asleep to that since he was about 4mths old. He's also into High 5 but that's about it in the kids music.
