I'm not in Vic, but we hired our baby capsule (we have 2 cars too) from the Red Cross. In SA, the RAA (equivalent to RACV) also hires capsules. Maybe ring either of them to find out who does hire capsules in your area?
We have bought a Safe and Sound Compaq car seat for our baby due in a few months but have now thought that we may need a second one as we will be using both of our cars quite regularly and don't want to be swapping the car seat in and out of the cars (more chance to be installed incorrectly each time).
The problem is that it has cost us $300 to buy (already $100 off on sale) and we can't really afford another $300 to buy another one the same. And we chose this one purely for the safety rating so it seems pointless to buy a 'lesser' car seat and hope that if we have an accident that it happens when we have the baby in the Safe and Sound not the cheap car seat (if that makes sense).
I've heard that you can hire baby capsules from either the council or the ambulance for a pretty small amount for 6 months, which are meant to be very safe for newborns. So we think we might do this and then decide after the 6 months if we really use both cars that much and if it's worth buying another car seat.
So.... does anyone know where you can hire them from in the City of Casey, Vic? I've tried googling it and can't find out where to hire them from.

There is a place called Hire for Baby, that hires out baby items and I'm sure they would be around your area. Just goggle them. I think mine was about $60 for 3 months hire but that was 3 years ago. Good luck.
Try the Red Cross
Don't be fooled by the price of car seats & capsules. They are all safe - they all have to pass the same standards to be sold in Australia. The dearer ones just have more bells & whistles. I got that little fact from someone who used to work for IGC - who make almost all of the car seats on sale here - they just have different brands on them (and different fabrics etc).
Thanks for the advice Satya, however our decision was based on RACV independant testing of car seats. It is true that all car seats have to meet minimum requirments, but there are those that still hold up better than others in an accident and the one we chose was definately one of the top ones they had reviewed.
I live in city of CAsey too and council doesn't hire them out anymore. We were told Hire for Baby and they charge $100/110 for about 3-6 months. It's not bad but cause you can get a brand new one (the newer style) for $280 from Bay Gellery that's what we did. We figured there would be somone inmy family or friends who could use it after us and we know it's brand new when we have it.
Safe'n Sound Baby safety capsules can be hired throughout Melbourne from Maxam Baby Capsule Hire. Maxam have been contracted by many local councils for over 15 years to provide this service. The nearest one to Casey is Ferntree Gully. Ring the head office on 1300 885 645 and they will be able to help you
I have just hired a baby capsule through Hire for Baby for my second DS. $99 for 6mths plus $20 bond. I picked mine up from Vermont on Tuesday not sure what suburbs Casey covers sorry.
Did you get yours from Penny, Hansie? She's lovely![]()
Hi Cherishs2, I'm not sure if you still check this site and/or these forums but did you end up finding somewhere in Casey to hire a baby capsule from? I'm now in the same position and keen to hear if you were able to source one from somewhere!
Thanks!
