    Hi girls,

I hope someone can help me... I have a very very very bad reaction on the elevit vitamins. I was wondering if there is some other way I can take folic acid??

You can take it on its own - Megafol is the most popular one. Just ask for that the pharmacy. It's much cheaper to do it that way anyway and for most women folate is the only supplement needed.

I'm currently taking Elevit and can't stand it. I'm finishing off what I have left though then going back to my fave which is the Natures Own Pregnancy Platinum. Highly recommend it and it's much cheaper than Blackmores and only one tablet a day.

Elevit isn't any better than other brands, it's all very clever marketing. Same with Blackmores. Compare the ingredients and you will see that they are all very similar. Elevit does have a higher iron content though but that is what causes constipation and ill feelings. I checked several of the pregnancy vitamins and found Natures Own to be more than sufficient, cheaper and you only need one tablet a day.

    Hope that helps!

Taurean, I bought pregnancy platinum today. Glad I spent my money wisely!! I actually picked it because it said "assists in reducing morning sickness by relieving the intensity of nausrea during pregnancy". That was a major drawcard!

Yay! I was so surprised at the difference in prices between brands. Very clever marketing by Elevit and Blackmores! I definitely felt my best on the Natures Own and will be back on them again soon. The only reason I'm taking Elevit is my sister gave me a full packet she had left over so it would have been a waste to bin them. I can't say I'm a fan of Elevit at all though. The things they do to your bowels and number twos is wrong!!

i thought it was bad me finding out at 5 weeks sooooooo long to go

im going to get the natures own one as i take the natures own fish oil tablets daily already so good to stick to the same brand.

when i was looking for tablets to take a while ago i was given womens multivitamins the pharmacist formula brand and i gotta say it wasnt pleasent my pee went bright yellow and i got the worst cramps.

so now im doing alot more research into what im putting into my body.

I have been taking Blackmores pregnancy and breastfeeding gold which i had at home already, since i was still feeding ds up until 6 weeks ago and ive got heaps left. i will try Natures own though next time i need some, because i hate having to take 2 huge horse size pills a day!

    Dodgy marketing

I'm a nutrition student and I've been quite peeved by the Elevit ad's, they said they are the only "Proven" formulation to avoid certain conditions but you can take folic acid on its own.

I was cranky because you don't need to spend a fortune on one of those "pregnancy" formulations, you can take a good quality standard multi vitamin, just check the vitamin A amount isn't too high, and add extra folic acid if you need to, it's a lot cheaper.
