Well I'm going away to have our first baby. I will probably be in hospital for up to a week, then staying away for a week to 10days before heading back to home town. We are renting a house to stay in. I'm just wondering if anyone can suggest a pack list of what I should, how many of each I should pack. Really I have no idea, I hope it is because most people spend time in their own home after hospital before having to pack to go on a holiday - or perhaps I'm just totally clueless
I'm using disposable nappies to start with, and I have stocked up while on sale, how many should I pack?
Singlets, socks/booties, blankets, all in ones, swaddles, bathing products/toiletries, bedding, towels, washers. Then there is the dilema, should I take the baby bath (I can use it to pack stuff into) or just use the laundry tub when I'm down there? Do I take any of the gadgets like monitor, grobag egg.
Sorry for my million questions, I probably seem like a bit of a goose but it is all becoming so real and going so far away to have bubs is probably starting to stress me out, well until I leave home then I won't worry because there is nothing else I can do about it - apart from shop
I guess it depends on the facilities where you are staying and how you are planning to set up while there.
Does your hospital provide things while you are in hossy?
Does the house your renting have washing machine and dryer?
Nappies - allow up to 11 nappy changes a day for a newborn,
clothes - we would go through up to three outfits a day - more once they get those explosive newborn poos happening.
Blankets/swaddling - depends on the weather but we would go through probably 2 a day, you might want some chuck rugs/terry toweling nappies for burbing and cleaning up messes
bathing products I wouldn't worry - just use water
towels and washers - again depends on if you have a washing machine but maybe 1 towel and 2 washers per day
If it was me - I wouldn't worry about the gadgets unless bub is going to be sleeping in a seperate room
A friend of mine is out here at the moment after coming out at 28wks to have bub and I can ask her for some more info if you like but she has been staying with her parents so a little bit different.
I wouldn't worry about gadgety stuff nor the baby bath if you can use a trough. As saram said depends on your washing facilities- don't forget detergent and plug for sink etc if not provided. I would take:
Disp nappies- can't remember how many in newborn packet but would go on 10 a day
All in ones- mainly what i used at the start but only 1 or 2 per day max for me as bubs was never spewy and it was December in Perth so v hot but you should go on 2-3 per day
Socks- one pair per day
singlets- 2 per day
Wraps- one every 2nd day
Towels- one or 2 if have washing machine
Bed linen- 2 sets plus rugs or grobag
Pram or sling and few bunny rugs to go in pram
No need for bathing products other than a few facewashers
Wipes and nappy rash cream
Cotton tips to clean around umbilical cord stump
Really depends if you have spewy bub or not, your washing facilities and what the hosp provides. What hosp u birthing at?
