Smile Ergo vs Ergo Sport - which one?

Can anyone let me know the difference between the two, what works better for you and why?

I am looking at the sport at the moment as it is on sale and we can't use the carrier we have as even with the back support it is hurting both our backs due to it being a front only carrier.

Also the Sport is on sale atm so I am looking at getting it while it is our cheap.

    TIA

Ok - having used both, this is my opinion of them.

Difference - thinner material which breathes with the sport, which makes it better in summer. I always broke out in a sweat with the other one up here cos it was just so stinking hot. Sport has longer straps which is good for tall men to wear (DH can't wear the other standard one). The sleeping hood on the sport is a PITA to attach to the straps on your shoulders because they have clips, the standard one has little snaps, so much easier to do by yourself. Because the sport is thinner material, I have found it harder to get on by myself and do up, because the material isn't as bulky so it twists and can be a PITA to do it if your baby is sleeping already and you are putting them on to keep them asleep. I have to get DH to help me. The standard one is sooo much easier to slip on. Sport is usually $2 cheaper. Sport comes with a little carry bag thing to keep it wrapped up between use - other one doesn't.

Um. I think thats the main things. I'll come back if I think of more.

Oooh thanks Mel, great to have someone who has used both!

DH is quite tall - over 6 foot, so the longer straps would be useful. Along with the breathable material, but it sound tricky with a NB, which is what we will use next time. I think I will have to drop in and try on both.

Any more feedback/info would be fabulous

We have the sport because DH is so tall - the only thing I hate about it is trying to twist myself up like a contortionist to clip the sleeping hood on ....OMG...it is a mission!!!

Other than that it's easy as to use - I've never tried to put DS in while he is asleep but have no probs getting him out while he's asleep.

The other day I wore him for almost 4 hours....took the dog for a walk, got some groceries and did washing etc...really comfy

Thanks LaDeeDa and Jitterbug, your feedback has been really useful.

andI dropped into BB today and tried them both on, how do you manage to dop up the clip at the back (when front wearing) while holding them in place? or do you do it up then just adjust the side straps?

I am leaning towards the sport as it is going to be warming up and I think that the standard is going to be a bit hot IYKWIM, but it only comes in black....

Pop bubs in and put the shoulder straps on - they are secure enough for you to put yur hands behind your head (like your tying your hair back) and do it up that way - I find because I have to have the straps so short that it's easier to do the clip up and then adjust otherwise I can't reach it IYKWIM

i got the standard one too, i can see how it will get really hot in summer already but i guess if bubs is just in nappy and singlet it should be ok.

just wondering (and kinda hijacking) the ergo on the instruction DVD is different to the one i got. there are some D rings which the hood attaches to when not in use but i dont have the D rings on mine is that just cause it is an updated version or something.

also, can you use the accessories on both kinds of ergo's? (and do normal baby shops sell the accessories, the backpack looks cool and the little bum bag thingy)

Hollo - yup you can use accessories in both types - and they are avaiable in baby shops (thats where I got my original one from!)

There should have been a sticker or a piece of paper in your Ergo box about it being slightly different - about the D rings changing etc - because when I got my original one, thats what it came with. If not, google for instructional dvd's if you are not sure how it works now.

Or if you are coming to the meet up tomorrow I can show you

nope not coming tomorrow, we are in full on mothers group kids birthday season. every weekend in august is booked with parties! LOL

nope, i didnt see the piece of paper either... i just tuck the hood into that pocket but it looks a bit messy. its pretty easy to use (well i think i am using it properly LOL)

Yeah the hood does store in the pocket part, I used to just roll mine up. I *think* from memory, what changed is that they used to be rings there on the shoulders, and then they went to snaps - or something like that - can't remember cos I never had an original one. Believe me, snaps are much better - the rings on the ergo sport are a tad annoying!!

oh yeah i am loving the snaps! they are really easy. the DVD showed the D rings on the sides too so that the hood can be strapped down when not in use, just looks nicer. but the pocket is ok.

do you/ will you be selling the accessories mel?
