How long did it take you TTC with endometriosis?

Hello ladies,

I have endometriosis and had my last laparoscopy to remove my endometriosis in 2007. Things were going well for a long time, but for the past 5-6 months my periods have become a nightmare as they are sooooo painful and I'm wondering whether it might be my endometriosis...

I have an OB/Gyn appointment next month and plan to ask him about it next month, but was wondering for the girls that have endo, how long did it take you to conceive from when you started TTCing?

I have been very very fortunate not to have trouble TTC despite the endo. our first was a surprise baby and the next three were all conceived on the first month of trying. It's one of those things where you just don't know how the endo will affect your TTC until you start. I know quite a few women IRL who were told they would have trouble, but didn't, so there is hope.

DH and I are still ttc (we started about 17 months ago) but found out not long ago that DH has some issues. When I had my lap just over 5 years ago, I was told to get utd straight away as it would help the endo and that I may have trouble conceiving. Now that we are having trouble, I've had more tests and have been told the endo is very unlikely to be causing any issues. I don't really have any symptoms atm.

I would think that if you're having endo symptoms (ie pain like you describe), then it could well be causing problems for you.

I was diagnosed with mild endo earlier this year and had it removed via lap after years and years of painful periods. DH and I have been TTC for just over 2 years now with no luck. We did have a chemical pregnancy a few months after surgery, but have now opted to try IUI. I've got five more days of this cycle before BT to see if it was successful. I know my aunty had endo and she had no trouble conceiving or giving birth. I guess you won't know until you try... Good luck!

I didn't know I had endo until I went to the GP after 12m TTC. I had an op to remove cysts in May, and conceived in October that year. All up, it was 2 years approx.
During this time (second 12m) I was also taking herbs from Sharkey's Healing Centre, and I could tell from my temp charts that my cycle was much more balanced, so I can't say whether it was the op, the herbs or a combination that did the trick.

Oh, also, we are TTC again now, and I have had another scan to check on the endo, and some cysts are back, so it could be a problem for you as well if it was two years ago you had your op.

Thanks for everyone's reply. I am seeing my OB/Gyn for my preconception checkup and will be talking to him a bit about my endo as I have had the worst period cramping for the past week due to AF showing up 3 days ago. I felt I was going to pass out from the pain. I haven't had a period this painful since my last laparoscopy, and when I saw my GP yesterday, he said that it might be my endo that's causing it.

Hi Pretzel,

I highly recommend you seek assistance from a Naturopath who specialises in reproductive issues and NFM (Natural Fertility Management) as well as using the conventional route of medicine.
For me, in the end - after years of repeated surgery and synthetic drugs, it was the natural medicine (intensive rigorous detoxification, dietary changes, herbs, homeopathic remedies and specific vitamin/mineral supplementation) that conquered the cause of my endo and PCOS and enabled me to conceive naturally.
I have heard many similar success stories with TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and endo/PCOS for conception. You can contact ANTA (Australian Natural Therapists Association) if you need assistance in finding a registered pracitioner near you.

My endo is only moderate but I suffered from irregular, heavy, painful periods since I first started to menstruate.It took 5 months for my period to return but then I was really lucky and fell pregnant on my first cycle.
