Hi, I have a dilema at the moment. After going through a month where my (now) 6 month old would only sleep for 1-2 hours at a time at night, in desperation I gave her a comforter to sleep with. It's a winnie the pooh one from Big W, with a small plush toy attached to a square of velvety-type cloth about 30cm x 30cm. The comforter really helped with her sleeping. However I am now worried about the risk of SIDS. I've gone into her room a few times and found the square part over her face and I'm worried about it making her overheat or restrict her breathing. I've tried taking it off her but she won't sleep without it now. I thought I could maybe cut and sew the cloth square so it is alot smaller (maybe 15cm x 15cm or less)- do you think that would help? (so it doesn't cover her face as much). Are there any other ideas? Does anyone know of any "safe" comforters? She already uses a dummy as well...
I wouldn't stress if she is able to move about, unless it had bits that could be pulled off later & chocked on. I'm not a fan of toys for comfoters for that reason & the needing to replace it if lost or dirty IYKWIM. It may be the bit on her face that actually comforts her. My DS has a wrap as a comforter, great thing is doesn't matter what wrap it is...so no stress on washing, replacing etc. He actually liked it over his face, that's how it started as a comforter...he would snuggle into it or cuddle it up to his face. He still does now at 2.5 but not as much, currently trying to use it less.
