I was told that later on it may be better to avoid strokes like breaststroke that open up your pelvis too much, but this is more mum's comfort than because of any worries for baby. Not sure how true that is anyway, about avoiding those strokes - just something to maybe keep in mind...
I was swimming 1km a few times a week up to 39 weeks pregnant with the last pregnancy. After 20 weeks avoid backstroke as it is the same as lying on your back.
hi sue,
i got my togs out (acutally found a cute maternity pair in big dub) just last week.
i can't walk much at the moment cos of sciatica playing up, so am enjoying swimming...
the only thing is it is very very slow going with a belly attached rofl! I felt like an upside tortoise bobby along in the water --- although i'm a ''former'' swimmer so am used to having a lovely style and lapping all those slow people in the pool... eeek no more!
I remember reading somewhere that you have to be careful when swimming when pregnant, to make sure you don't get too hot. It's obviously harder to tell what you your body temperature is when you're in the water, because you don't feel yourself sweating or anything like that.
