I could not live without my mothers groups!! I have joined one for each child (big age gaps, different locations) and I can say they're the highlight of my week as well as being some of my closest friends. Definitely worth at least trying!! xo
PS Even the first group I joined, I was 24 and every single other mum was over 35, but still for the first year, age was irrelevant as we had new babies in common, and I just found it invaluable. Ironically, I didnt stay in touch any of them barr one, and she was the eldest (42 at the time) so age really was irrelevant!

I think in my area mothers groups are only for first time mums, but I guess you could request to be put in one?

We had 6 weeks run by the health centre. There was a different 'topic' each week, but it was kind of just introduced by the lady running it and then we just chatted. Usually the conversation started out about the topic (which included from routines, solids, babyproofing, and baby massage) but we also talked about all sorts of other things. Now we just meet at someones house and talk about whatever - our babies, our hubbies, life in general. We've gone to the movies together a couple of times (mums and bubs sessions), and some of the girls go walking.

I have found it great. Even though I grew up in the area and have plenty of friends close by, many of whom also have babies, I've met a whole bunch of new people and we all get along really well.
