My DS has been on solids for 3+ weeks now and has taken to it quite well. I'd been told all about the revolting poos that would be coming my way, lol.
Before DS started solids he was exclusively breastfed, and would do a big poo every 4 days or so. I assumed that when he started solids they'd become daily, but they haven't.
His latest new food to try was avocado, but I am yet to see it come through the other end - it's been 3 days! Is this normal? Surely he couldn't be constipated from only having fruit and vegetables as his solids?
They're still very soft - just a little thicker now than when he was only b/f. I can usually make out bits of food in the poos - banana, carrot, pumpkin... It's just this avocado I'm yet to see.
Not too much straining. He has been doing heaps of farts, just not many poos.
My DS was the same for the first couple of months or so. I think it's because milk is still the biggest part of their diet. From 6-8 months (or thereabouts) he pooed every 2-3 days. From around 8 months he started going once a day.
If they're not hard and he doesn't seem to be in distress about it then it's probably fine.
I found the same thing too. After a while when the volume of solids had increased, the poos did become daily. But it didn't happen straight away. It all sounds good to me - it's only if it comes out hard that there's a problem.
Don't believe the people who tell you solids poo is disgusting... I found it so much easier to deal with, LOL! Heaps less blow-outs and it wasn't til she started eating more flavoursome stuff (like garlic, LOL!) that they smelt reeeeeeally bad.
I agree with PPs - all sounds normal to me. Doesn't sound like he's constipated if the poo is soft.
Thanks for your replies. Good to know . Sounds like DS is doing all the normal baby things. Lol, I know what you mean about being better on solids with less explosive poos!
