TBH, I find that a bit confusing. So they're saying that infants being upright for any length of time reduces the size of their airway??? What about if you them in a carrier/sling? And I wouldn't exactly say that infants are really in an 'upright' position in their car seats/capsules anyway, they are quite reclined.
I'm not 100% sure, but the way I read it, it's because they are not straight up and down in a newborn car seat, nor are they lying flat, they're kind of in a sloughed position? I guess it's the same with a sling. But a carrier where they are up right, they are not sloughed (sp?).
This is not intended to be gospel, just food for thought.
DD was prem (31 wks) and the day before she came home I had to take her car seat into the SCN so DD could sit in it while hooked up to an oximetry meter for 20 mins(measuring the O2 she was getting)...She weighed only 1700 grams ish at the time and she had no problems passing the test with flying colours
