She would more than likely get nicknamed Izzy at some point of her life ... You can control that while she is a baby/toddler but she would have to tell people herself when she's older not to call her by that nickname ... mind you she might actually really ' like ' it herself

My 3year old DD has a few nicknames but for me i chose not to put a stop to them cause at the end of the day her nicknames by these people is a sign of affection for her & that's so sweet to me as her Mummy

If you think she is an Isabelle then go for it, but it will be her name, and you may find she ends up being called Izzy regardless of what you think about it.

    Good luck

If you like Bella, why not just name her that? There wouldn't be any reason to call her Izzy that way, as it's not short for Isabelle! I love Bella...I think it's a gorgeous name.

My borther's name is Daniel and my mum hated Danny for a nick name, so while he was young anyone that called him Danny she'd correct them and say he's name's Daniel, we prefer no shortenings. Then when he was old enough she tought him to do the same, he'd say my name is Daniel, not Danny, please call me by my name. It wasn't until he was about 16 that he started getting Dan and evenyone was happy with that.

Why do I say all of this??? Cuz you can definately do the same, if they say Izzy, just correct them and say, We'd prefer you call her Bella or by her full name thank you. Easy done

With DD we had to have a talk to SIL as she was calling her Tears, which I HATED!!! She's not crying, thats not her name and thats not even a shortening, so just said we don't appreciate it and we feel she is too young for a nick name just yet, so Tiera it is. I must say it took a bit of pounding into her head as she is a little stubbern sometimes, but we got there.

Don't change the name you love just because of a nick name, it is always something you can get around. Good luck with it all!

I also back what Pish says....I had the same situation with me....I am Julia and my mum HATED anyone calling me Jules...so she would tell them... "Her name is Julia" and Julia it was! I get called Jules now as an adult because I allow it, and people only tend to call me that once they've known me well enough. I always introduce myself as Julia and don't like it when people call me Jules before they know me well.

I have an Isabella and when ever ANYONE calls her Izzy - I firmly say Bella.. and it is working so far! But who knows what will happen when she goes to school!! And she may like Izzy better that Bella... But for now she will only be Isabella or Bella!

DH is Daniel and has always been Daniel not Danny or Dan. My parents didn't shorten either mine or my borther's names so everyone called us by our full names and its only now we choose to use our shorter names sometmes.
I think if you make a point of it she wouldn't get Izzy, DD2 has 3 Isabellas at in her grade at school and only one gets Izzy cause her parent's like it.
